Lyrics below:
Underneath the bridge, tarp as sprung a leak
And the animals I've trapped
Have all become my pets
And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from the ceiling
It's OK to eat fish
'Cause they haven't any feelings
Something in the way, hmmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmmm
Underneath the bridge, tarp has sprung a leak
And animals I've trapped
Have all become my pets
And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from the ceiling
It's OK to eat fish
'Cause they haven't any feelings
Something in the way, hmmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmmm
Underneat the bridge, mom has come to bring me
Something else to eat
And then she will sing me
All the way to sleep
When I'm overcome, I'm homesick...
Anyone who sees it
Something in the way, hmmm
Something in the way, yeah
Something in the way, hmmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmmm
Underneath the bridge, mom has come to bring me something else to eat, and then she will sing me all the way to sleep. and im overcome, im homesick, - blank line -, anyone who sees it, (kurt almost cries, and i almost cry)
Something in the way
This is my favorite version of the song. Its so honest and emotional especially the last verse. Kurt threw out the last verse because he thought the lyrics were too revealing. (and maybe he didnt wanna almost cry everytime he sang the song)
makes me think of seasons in the sun from 1/16/93: "and I know I was real big fuck up, and I couldn't hold down a job at macdonalds, and you ousted me at the age of 15(?), I was on the streets, I had nowhere to go"
That last verse of this is heartbreaking. I started crying when he did. So raw. So honest. One of the true rock greats. You are missed Kurt Cobain. ❤️
Can you write here the lyrics of that last verse? Is it different from the ones we hear nowadays? Thank you...
@@janecarolbaldivia1430 this recording is possibly before nevermind was released . lyrics were changed :)

Never heard this version before and I've been collecting their music and bootlegs for years, that final verse was...haunting and just took this song even deeper than it already was.
I've been doing the same for years and recently had this discovery. The first time I heard the last verse I was driving. I had to pull over because I thought I was going mental
Singing about his mother, and he cries. This and the solo Old Age recording are my favorite recordings of Kurt. Deep, deep emotional pain- you can either relate or you can't. Unfortunately I can.
The painful missing verse included in this ONE recording (the description has some of it wrong):
Underneath the bridge
Mom has come to bring me
Something else to eat
And then she will sing me
All the way to sleep, and I'm
Gonna come on home soon...(breaks down from deep emotional pain and misses a line)
Anyone who sees it
Something in the Way
@@SmokingRat lmao you can clearly tell by his voice dude
@@MyNameIsNidos I could hear him trying to hold in his cries
I dont think he cried or broke down, I think he just missed a line, because he messed up. Since the "homesick"/"home soon" part of the lyrics didn't really fit well with the melody he just stopped for that one line.
@@MyNameIsNidos LIES
this version and the demo on montage of heck are my favs. glad to see batman has made some people give nirvana a listen but i think this version deserves some love 🤍
How do ya like the version from BBC sessions?
@@TonyZielinski1 that one is amazing too! i love how much emotion they put into it. it just hits different and makes it more raw
Started listening to Nirvana because of the new Batman movie. Can't believe I never listened to them before and it's crazy to me that this version of Something In The Way isn't very popular. It's one of my favorite versions of the song
I personally love sappy demo
god damn that's heartbreaking
Ive been obsessed with Kurt since 1991
Nothing is going to change that
Miss you always I met the man himself
Goober alive i guess
@@goober5795 alive i guess
How was it meeting him?
How was it meeting him? I'm guessing he was very shy
sounds to me like he says “and i’m gonna come home soon” instead of “i’m overcome, i’m homesick”... at least that makes more sense i think
I heard that too
Agreed
Damn he still hasn’t fixed it?
I heard that too and don't even doubt that's what he said and why he choked up
This is killing me. I started crying when he did
around what part of the video?
Ermacx Ster 4:20
3:42 this verse he chokes up then as he gets to the chorus he sounds like he's crying as he sings it and doesn't do the harmony in between
same here
Nonsense
ive heard everything hes ever made and can detect the nuances.. kurt definitely choked here holding back an overwhelmingness of the song.
Nope

This is a recording that makes you go straight into your head and feelings. This pain is very relatable.
I loved this song since the first time I heard it
Fuck. That third verse hit me right in the gut.
Ok here is another attempt. I just noticed that there are some lyrics in the description - did I miss those before or were those added recently? Ok, so after listening to this about 1000 times with different types of headphones, I have to say that I think @surfingonbrainwaves has it mostly correct. Last verse with my notes in parenthesis:
Underneath the bridge, mom has come to bring me (I think we agree on the structure and most of the wording)
Something else to eat (again, we mostly agree. I think it is "else" and not "nice" you can hear the "lse" emphasized)
And then SHE will sing me (I do hear, "she" meaning that "mom" makes sense in the first line)
All the way to sleep ( I think the "ll" in "all" and "sl" in "sleep" are pretty pronounced)
And I'm gonna come on home soon (I count 8 syllables here. Specifically, something added after "come" )
Then we have a vocal pause. (This sucks, because I do not think it is intentional. I think there are lyrics to fill this up, but for whatever reason, he doesn't sing them. This makes it harder to make sense of when he resumes again.)
"...anyone who sees it" ( I don't agree with this one, but I can't come up with anything better. Specifically, I hear something like "wanna" instead of "anyone who".
Contextually, these lyrics make sense if we think of the whole song. He has ran away, living under a bridge. His mother has attempted to bring him back home. This time she succeeds. He sings about her comfort (food, singing him to sleep) and about going home. Who knows about that last line though. Thanks for reading.
No one talk about Dave's harmonies, but that add something to the song
First listen. Became too much clearly. This version with that last bit is just heartbreaking. Glad he made up with his mum for his own sake.
I waited for this all my life and I knew exactly that there was a hidden rehearsal jam prior to the real recording
This song hits hard enough as it is, but when i was homeless, sleeping on the river bank my mother brought food to me one day so that third verse has always hit me in a very intense way, It was a rough time in my life the original song also hit hard but this version, it hurts
Favorite Nirvana song just got better ❤
Mom has come to bring me
something else to eat
And then she will sing me
all the way to sleep
And I gotta come home sir
Any one had ses this
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Fucking unbelievably beautiful.
Making a heavy emotional song takes a lot of courage to sing it out of your goddam heart. Like daddy of korn and more
Makes me sad. Too sad.
Definitivamente, la mejor cancion de nirvana, la que mas emocion transmite, es mi favorita,
As soon as those tattoo-studios will be open, i will get a Kurt cobain-tattoo.
Love you so much man 🙏🏻❤
mmm this is awesome. Thank you for uploading!!!
I started crying at 4 08((((
i waited for this release ever since...
I was 11 years and I will NEVER forget Mr. Cobain's musical compositions, But, I didn't know what to think it at 11:15
I wonder what happened to the seals, those and the dolphin Then again in begining with Courtney (I'm sure of it) that
This is as much about Kurt and Krist as anything else, as they start the song, two life-long friends with their backs against the wall at this point in their lives.

This is so heartbreaking :( ♥️
I listened to this in Spotify, but i forgot it was on shuffle and it switched to "Buddy Holly" 💀
i dropped my jaw from this mood change
Thanks to share that!
So beautiful... Thanks for upload this... u.u
Eu so queria saber é tentar sentir oq kurt sentia escrevendo essa mar de dores! Fico imaginando como a mente é o coração dele devia estar perturbados, sinto falta dele
God I love & miss Nirvana
chords are the same interval as beginning of Beethoven's 5th symphony. Somewhere there is something the same between them.
You mean one of the most common intervals in music?

what do you think about "father" instead of "fall"?
+Oscar Del Futuro no I don't think that sounds right and it also says and then SHE will sing me all the way to sleep. so probably used fall as in mother like kurt did for in bloom when he says nature is a whore

You know what is funny? You can't really seem to find lyrics anywhere. Not even people trying to decipher them. Here is my attempt (the last verse):
"Underneath the bridge, fall has come to bring me
something else to eat
heaven, she will save me
all the way to sleep
???.....
......???seasons???"
Something in the way...."
Haha really hard to hear what he is saying.
+Oscar Hernández My idea:
Underneath the bridge, Father's come to bring me
something else to eat
Heaven, she will save me
On my way to sleep
I'm gonna come home soon
(???)
I don't want to see them
+lazrpo I think that's right
+lazrpo yeah i think you're close. however, i dont think that last part is "i dont want to see them" sounds different
+lazrpo and i think its "come on home"
+Oscar Del Futuro Idk but maybe
"Underneath the bridge, mother's come to bring me,
Something else to eat. Heaven, she will see me,
All the way to sleep. And I'll never come, I'm homesick.
Anyone who sees this:
Something in the way"
Does anyone know what year this was?
Probably 1990 or 1991
Lyrics please
+Kenny Araujo I don't think the last verse was finished(maybe never was). Might have just been muttering for melody.
Tim Byrd The last part wasn't muttering he was talking about his mother or father then he began to cry.
I don’t think he was crying I think it’s just the way he was singing
Yeah he's not even Alone. He'd have to be coming down pretty hard off some H or pretty overwhelmed otherwise to just cry. Maybe but I'm with you.
Sounds like he's trying to hold back, to me anyway.
FIRST
Why was he crying here?
he had an horrible childhood (people don't really know the details about his life enough, the Kurt's biographies are always false and don't tell the truth) and i think this song talked about his experiences, and this was difficult to singing so yeah.
