In1985 I met Steve Martin-Caro, the former lead singer of The Left Banke of Walk Away Renee fame. One beautiful evening, Jennifer and I decided to take a walk. We found ourselves on Kennedy Blvd where we ran into Rev. Ralph. He was hanging out with Steve and his wife Heather. They had just landed at Tampa International Airport from Ohio a couple of days prior. Ralph introduced Steve to me as the guy who had sung the 60's hit, Walk Away Renee by The Left Banke. Steve seemed displeased with the way he was introduced to me and reacted by saying, "Aw, Ralph, I told you not to tell anybody!"
Steve and I became good friends and he spent a lot of time at our house. He had become disillusioned with the music business, but he had fun with me and Jennifer. We ran a lot of tape when he was with us.
I was trying to record a vocal for I Need To Know when Steve grabbed the mic from my hand and declared, "Give me that mic, I'll show you how to sing it!"
Talented singer. Sad life.
I never tire of this song - so beautiful.
Inspiring and awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!
❤
Wow! Didn't know this existed. Steve was still singing so beautifully even in 1987! Thank you for posting this!
Miss him.
This is beautiful! I miss Steve -- he had such a magical voice.
I miss him too :(
@@RayGalindo - I am sure you do. You were so blessed to have known him but I am sure you already know that.
@@janwoodard9376 I was also blessed to know Jeff Winfield and George Cameron, but I spent the most time with Steve.
@@RayGalindo - Oh! I was not aware you knew Jeff and George -- wow! That's awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Really just an ineffably sweet voice he had.
Beautiful. 😔
Absolutely
RIP Steve Martin Caro. Thank you Ray for sharing this.
Thank you for posting this. I have always enjoyed his unique vocals. Selfishly, I wish he were still with us.
Love this. Love Steve Martin Caro...
Me too still do!
Wow that’s for posting! He’s from Left Banke! I’d know his voice anywhere! Tyx so much for sharing this unreleased song by Steve❤️👍🇺🇸🔥🎶☮️
This is a beautiful song, Ray! Steve’s voice was still stunning in the late 1980s, apparently
Thank you. Steve was a great guy! I was lucky to capture this and still have it after all these years. Steve hated recording his voice after The Left Banke experience. He once told me that every time he put his voice on tape, he got ripped off.
@@RayGalindo - That's sad. His voice was beautiful.
Wow didn’t know this was from 80’s! Tyx so much for sharing this epic singer a& song.,love the pix of Steve. Got a bad experience when in Left Banke: poor promoting & crappy management just in to rip this band off $$$.,so glad I posted this song..what a great voice! Could’ve gone further!... just wasn’t meant to b. So sad. Glad I knew him. Sure wish I had!🇺🇸❤️
@@RayGalindo sad to hear Steve got ripped off! What a great singer! Bless u for sharing this special gem Z& great pix! ❤️from🇺🇸☮️
@Mike Davis yup know exactly what I mean ! That sucks
This is such a gorgeous song and Steve's performance here is absolutely fantastic. I wish there was some sheet music or something for the piano part.
Thank you. This was a one off. He just took the mic from me and said, "Give me that mic...I'll show you how to sing it!" My girlfriend had prerecorded the piano. Sorry that there is no sheet music.
@@RayGalindo Wow! That's awesome, and definitely sounds like something he would do lol.
LADY?...YOU ARE CRACKED ..YOU ARE CRAZY!!!!..HOW DOES ONE GET ..."LUMINALED?"
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I wonder if he and Alex Chilton were ever considered teen heartthrobs and featured in the teen girls magazines of the era?
Ray, how did you meet Steve? This song you wrote is great, by the way.
Thank you :) I met Steve in Tampa, Fl in late 1984. We hung out for a few years and played a lot of music together. I have a few other things that I'll post soon. I'll devote a few pages to our experiences in my memoir. If you follow me on Facebook, I post occasionally about the old days with Steve. facebook.com/Galindosound/
@@RayGalindo - That sounds great, thanks!
@@RayGalindo hello sir, I stumbled upon this UA-cam posting of this recording. I am a first cousin to Steve, one of many he has out west. really great to hear more of him beyond the Banke recordings, and will look around for your Florida Facebook memoirs with him.
