🧛♂🧛♂🧛♂Anne Rice is arguably THE OG of vampire chronicle novels, she inspired and is the go to influence for a lot of subsequent vampire movie/show franchises (some bad, some good), the movie could only include so much...her books created an entire vampire/witch universe. She used to live in New Orleans, in a big creepy Victorian home.
One interesting fact about this movie is that Anne Rice, the author of Interview with the Vampire, was not sold on Tom Cruise’s casting as the character of Lestat. She was a very harsh critic when it came to Tom Cruise’s casting. She originally wanted the late Julian Sands to play the role of Lestat, but because he wasn’t a well known actor in the US, her request was ignored for Tom Cruise, who was a big star. She recommended many other actors like Jeremy Irons, Peter Weller, and John Malkovich among others. She even pitched the idea of having Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise switch roles. Eventually, the movie got made and once she saw Tom Cruise in the movie, she basically ate her words and said that he did a very good job in the role.
I’ve been a fan of Anne Rice for a long time. It was so exciting when this movie came out. They did a really great job adapting Rice’s book. Kirsten Dunst absolutely steals this movie as Claudia. There’s an AMC series based on the books of Rice. They take a different route with the source material but it’s still very entertaining and definitely worth a watch. Tom Cruise as Lestat and Sam Reid from the series as Lestat take different approaches but both are mesmerizing to watch. Great movie choice!
Kirsten Dunst killed this role the way her character killed. . . well, most of the people she came into contact with :D One of the best performances by a child actor I've ever seen, up there with Haley Joel Osment in "The Sixth Sense." Fun reaction! :)
Every time I see the scene reacting to the woman in the bed and cutting her hair it makes me feel crazy that she is in a 2000's film as a cheerleader. ( I also loved Bring it on, so don't flame me lol. )
This was my movie back in the day. Beautifully shot film. I especially loved Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst's relationship. Its a pretty good adaptation of the novel which is gorgeously written.
The show is an absolute MUST watch after this! It’s an AMC show and the 2nd season just came out this year and Season 3 is already greenlit and in progress, but there’s only 15 episodes so far so it’ll be easy to catch up if you’re interested. It’s a masterpiece in writing and acting and stars Jacob Anderson (Greyworm from GOT) as Louis. The show keeps the same essence as the movie and the original books while as taking big liberties that only improved the story as a whole. If you enjoyed this movie whatsoever, then I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the show!
Totally agree! I was initially disappointed that they had changed the time period, so I didn’t watch it for awhile. Then, I decided to watch a reaction to the pilot episode & I was won over. I think I’d still prefer 1790’s New Orleans, but the cast totally makes up for it. I’m really looking forward to season 3 & the arrival of our ‘Brat Prince.’
100% agree! By the time s1 was over, not only was I saying/thinking "Tom who?" cause Sam Reid fucking owned the Lestat character, it was MADE FOR HIM, but --coming from someone who loved Tom Cruises Lestat -- he mopped the floor with Tom Cruise's Lestat. It's going back to the true basics, the romantic gothic vampires we all know and love.
@@realhousewifeoftransylvania1.0 As a lifelong Book and Movie fan of the Vampire Chronicles, I will say that the show is a lot better than the movie, and follows the book plot details very well, allowing for more books to be adapted into seasons.

Nice. As a fan of the books I was nervous when I heard they were making a movie. But I love it. Great atmosphere, pacing, and despite some who worried about one actor, all three principals were very good. Not my top 1 or 2 vampire movies, but it's up there...
Anne Rice is my favorite author and I love the entire Vampire Chronicles series. I thought this movie was a fairly decent adaptation of the book, although it had to leave out large parts of the story and it did change several plot points. So, I was THRILLED when AMC decided to make the book into a series. I will echo what many other commenters have said - you MUST watch the TV series. It too changed some things, but it is still a much more faithful adaptation It's absolutely spectacular and I think you would really like it.
If you liked the movie, you will LOVE the tv show. It's AMC's Interview With The Vampire. It was recently named TV Guide's best show of 2024. There's already 2 seasons out, with a third on the way. I'm tellin' ya, you gotta see it.
That's a typical scythe for cutting grass etc. In the era before lawnmowers, it was the go-to tool for the lawn on your _estate._ Some farmers who still take pride in their fields still use them for the corners.

It’s a fun film, if you can have a little imagination, and watch it with the right person…😉😏 I read all the books back in the day and yeah, they were way better, but the films were fun and nobody had really gone here when they came out, especially the first one.
Believing that the sequel movie "The Queen of the Damned" is bad, is not a matter of crowd mentality. Objectively speaking, it is a very poorly written film, the motivations the characters have is not very well fleshed out, and therefore their actions come off as unbelievable and bizarre. The dialogue between characters is cheesy. The list goes on and on, and these aren't even tiny problems, they're HUGE plot, story, character, and acting problems that plague the movie.
I first discovered "interview" as a kid in like 1991, it was a book on cassette tape read by F. Murray Abraham.
