I wonder if Izzy realizes that's partly why Alec is so messed up, & why she herself escaped comparatively unscathed? The expectations of an eldest child in a normal family can be very high & demanding, & these are emotionally constipated Shadowhunters bent on redeeming the family name in an equally emotionally constipated culture. She said it herself, "Heavy is the head that wears the crown". However sarcastic, it's true. Sometimes being the "favorite" isn't a good thing.

Another scene that I cannot fight tears... Kat’s portrayal in such a terrible moment is exquisite. 1. She found her mother in a gruesome state.. her heart obliterated, eyes wide open. 2. She watched footage of her death... at the hands of Alec, a person she’s worked closely with. 3. She shoved all of that aside to handle the threat, shoveling her emotions down. 4. Once the threat is gone... the shock sets in. Pure, unadulterated shock. She’s not crying, she’s not breathing, she’s not thinking. She’s moving in slow motion, doesn’t see anyone around her. She’s numb, hollow, and without thought. That is a beautifully haunting demonstration of shock.... been there.
Same here Kat is an amazing actress the emotion she showed was incredibly well done I love her so much. Though I felt terrible for Alec too he was possessed by a demon so it wasn't at Alec's hands that Jocelyn died he had to live with what the demon did with his body and that was heartbreaking for him.

That part with Jace and Simon kind of reminds me that scene from Vampire Diaries where Stefan and Damon save Elena from Elijah, and she is standing at the top of the stairs looking at Damon and starts to run down looking like she is about to hug him when Stefan comes out of nowhere and hugs her instead

I've always said Shadowhunters tends to way overdo the dialogue - they usually have emotional scenes with way too much talking when they could have silent, poignant interactions that are far more powerful. The ending to this episode just proves that. So beautifully shot. Such a perfect, lonely yet loving image of Jace returning to his true brother and sister, and Simon comforting his best friend in the world - all the while, Clary has never been more utterly alone as her mother is gone. The heartbroken look on Jace's face as he realises there's nothing he can do for her.... god that gets me....
