I feel like SteamOS 3 is a big thing because most people who are not Linux users don't know that we have distros like Chimera and Bazzite and probably don't know they can install on their non Steam Deck devices something that look and feel like SteamOS. If Valve starts distributing their OS with some tutorials on how to install it on a few handhelds like the Ally I fell like a lot of people would try it
Steamos on more devices is only a win for steam/valve let's be honest. They aren't going to shy about it. The more devices running steamos the more easy access to their store
It'll encourage developers to be more supportive of Linux and make games targeting the compatibility layer. Instead of outright banning Linux players like destiny 2 has.
i love how thorough valve's bug fixing is, that bug with disconnecting an external display, i've had a steamdeck for two years and use it roughly twice a week (still adds up to a lot), i think i've seen that bug like twice at most, it's the type bug i'd never report since i'd consider it a "freak anomaly", shit happens you know, yet valve still goes the extra mile to tackle such issues, this is beyond doing a job to get paid, this is just flat out the same levels as a passion project imagine windows actually fixed their shit to this extent lol
The issues with Decky Loader is why I'm excited for Open Gamepad UI, because it has plugin support built-in. This will probably prevent stuff like that from happening.
I want HDMI CEC to get more love before a proper 3.6 stable release. That feature would be super handy for me if it were more reliable and fleshed out.

My issue with Chimera OS is that adding a second ssd as a steam library is stupidly unreliable and inconsistent. Adding it via the official methods didn't work at all. Once I got it to mount and be recognized by Steam by manually formatting it to NTFS and adding it as a library in SteamUI, but after a few weeks it wouldn't mount anymore and trying to would give me a "read-only filesystem" error. Why are SteamOS knockoffs using immutable filesystems if they don't allow you to easily add another storage drive? This is a ridiculously basic feature for a modern console, let alone a computer.
Re Steam review update: this mostly sounds good as there are times when I want to know if a game is any good and meme reviews can really get in the way. But on the flip side my concern is that review bombing may also get buried - but these are reviews I want to see because if a publisher or developer takes a dump on users then I want to know and that will certainly affect my buying decision.
Riven is a great game, as devilishly hard as I remember. It looks great too, especially if you make some minor tweaks like increasing the texture resolution. It's great that we can do in real time what needed supercomputers to pre-render to back in the day.
I hope that SteamOS coming for more devices lead us to a market of hardware manufactures creating theyr own Steam Machines. I mean, brands could sell pcs with SteamOS and marketing it like a machine to play recent games on 1080p, 1440p or 4K.
I installed batocera on a hp all in one pc. I also installed the Linux version of clone hero. Basically this is a perfect low end game station that will play up to GameCube but can upscale the older stuff to 1080p. I highly recommend batocera if you wanna build an arcade out of an old pc. Especially if you have an all in one lying around. Also you can clone the drive and bounce it around to other devices. Super cool!

Until Dawn is a great game, definitely check that out if you like the horror genre. Its legit a playable horror movie and based on how you play the game characters will live or die and the game will simply continue without the characters that have died.
Full time RVer and was at a campsite with NO cell signal or internet.. OMG.. even when when in offline mode, a crash or startup of the deck insists on checking for an update! But I already told the deck there IS NO INTERNET!! wait time for time out is many mins and SO painful. Try it. Disconnect your router and power on or restart your deck.
For God of War and Until Dawn as long as you can sign in on psn and they don’t require the overlay they might be playable on Linux. GoW specs probably would work on steam deck. We’ll have to wait for Until Dawn specs.
Speaking of old Mac games, I'd really like to see a modern version of Bubble Trouble. There's not really a way to play it on modern operating systems / hardware anymore aside from emulating an old Mac with something like SheepShaver, which I wasn't able to get the game working in even. I was hoping to get it playable on my Deck after revisiting it on an old iMac G3 recently.
The 1060 is "roughly" comparable to the RX-480, which I have, and my RX-480 still performs considerably better than the Steam Deck. Games that run at 720p 30-45 fps on the Deck can do 1080p 60+ on my RX-480. But playing in handheld mode with FSR on low settings and 800p, we might be able to get away with it. I may give it a try on my desktop though.
I don't think you have to sign into a Sony account to play the single player part, just the multiplayer. At least that's how it worked with Ghost of Tsushima, which was more than fair.
A limited RGB option on the Steamdeck would be nice for the TV's that don't have the option (even not hidden in a dev menu on mine) so I have no options that aren't stupid "reshade-like-tweaks" to be able to see darker things on my TV without it being too dark..

@@bwloawesome Since Valve literally never announces anything until it's actually finished, this is the closest we're gonna get to actual communication from them on when this will happen. We knew they were working on it, but that's all we knew. Hell, they won't even acknowledge their current in-the-works game. It's currently one of the most played games right now. And they don't even acknowledge its existence.
They say the road to hell is paved by good intentions. While I agree that they need to make some changes to prioritize helpful reviews over the memes and ASCII art, and what they're looking to do SOUNDS good to me, we all know how people don't always react favorably to change.

I think we're going to start seeing the ceiling of what the steam that can do in the next few months. I doubt that God of war will run well on the steam deck. At this point I see the deck as a great system to play full blown blockbuster games from 2023 and prior, as well as some lower end games into the future. I don't see it running the new God of war. I don't see it running the new Doom game for 2025 either, unless people want 30fps on a shooter.
I would like to see steam not prevent loading into a single player game map with mods just because of a lost connection. They could easily just load what is stored locally instead of insisting on updating those mods, like in avorion and doace engineers
@@StingerAJ because it also does not load as it is supposed to. You end up having to go into the file structure itself and copy files to do that, it would be simpler to have the programs to attempt to update and if that failed to run with the files as locally stored, anyone with a functional brain would see that is the more sane option anyway to setup steam as.

@@StingerAJ i would suspect that is the case since with avorion i can have a map loaded up and i am playing and the moment the steam client loses connection it causes the game to throw an error and save and exit. Space engineers does not do this last i played it, it just would not load up the map if the connection was not active or if it got interupted while it was in the process of loading. I rarely play online since folks have too much of a tendency to dog pile on solo players and playing in groups has too often ended up in working on their goals and no progress on my own.
I personally do not see the point in running SteamOS on other devices, when the entire point of a ROG Ally or Legion Go is to have a Windows device that allows you to play all of the games your Steam Deck does not. It great for those that want the option though.
Yes it simply is about customers choice (and of course having an OS-image with a pre-installed steam client..., on the other hand, that is better than MS with their pre-installed bullshit).
@@gardiner_bryant One of my best friends has a steam deck and a Lenovo Legion Go, and since he has the latter, he loves playing BG3 on it, presumably due to the bigger display. So it seems to me this is working somewhat well with those devices. I think if you got into the new Steam Big Picture Mode it really isn't a big issue anymore with using the desktop. But I agree that Valve makes it easy with the default game mode on the SD.
@@gardiner_bryant I own a Steam Deck, it's great device and SteamOS is wonderful when it supports the games you want. However, it's far from perfect, which is why I must dual boot with Windows to play my Game Pass library, COD, Fortnite, Destiny 2, etc. I have no doubt Valve will continue to improve SteamOS, but when you simply just want to play your library of games, SteamOS can get in the way sometimes. Regardless, I can't help but feel that if your goal is to use SteamOS, why not buy the device that is built from the ground up for it.
Can the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra be used on the Steam Deck using the cable or wireless adapter? It can by Bluetooth but loses the haptic feedback which makes it no fun.
I want them to be more accurate with the great on deck titles, gta is labeled playable and runs amazing, dl2 is verified and cant even run at low settings... and the only reason they added what games are verified are so you know what works, but it's horribly inaccurate and forces you to do your on research regardless. The plastic touchpads aren't meant to be used much... my right track pad either has an impossible to removed grease stain (no grease feeling) or has worn down after just 150 hours... I get its plastic, but 2 weeks for signs of wear? My steam deck was meant to replace my home console, so it's certainly being put through the ringer
i hope the reviews do get human reviews as u said rather then ai as the ascii art and emot's reviews could be the in depth reviews that use certain ascii characters to divide pros and cons then each thing like story music and so on with its own score. as for the store page i don't think they should remove the main game site for the game as some games ex titan quest have more info on characters and mechanics for people looking in the game, now they can add that info into the steam page but it would probably be extremely messy and steam doesn't really have taps in pages other then drop downs. but that being said im excited to see how it all goes as valve has been doing good with this years updates imo.
what I am most interested in is whether or not valve will explore new steam machines. I'd love to own a modernized one that is like my steam deck. and for new handhelds to be able to actually compete with the deck. Every single person I've seen with a ROG Ally or MSi Claw seems to regret buying one over the deck you can see it in the resale value of those devices vs the deck. And honestly it's simply because Windows sucks and microsoft hasn't made a front end or version of Windows for these handhelds.
SteamOS is just in time for Windows dropping support of Windows 10 and forcing a subscription licensing model. Currently use Steackdeck as a gaming Pc and old gaming PC has become a server other than games that don't play on linux. I can see myself switching to dual boot with linux until I can no longer use windows

I didn't script this video or the last one. I just read the news articles to myself and then turned on the camera. My other videos I usually spend the first four to five hours writing out my thoughts, and then I'd load the script into a teleprompter and perform the script. In the unscripted videos, it's less of a performance and I'm just being myself. I'm quite subdued and shy IRL, and this is more of my authentic self. Haha This video (and the previous one) I just winged it. Both these videos have had a positive response, so I think I'm gonna keep going in this direction. Thanks for noticing!
For me steam is a storage place for my games that makes whatever game I want available to me to play whenever I like. No revamping can make it better than that but they can make it worse. As they wisely say don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Humm.. The changes to reviews sounds ok 'on paper', but im hesitant to trust it. It feels like it can either overwhelm whoever is curating those reviews, or if some kind of AI is doing it or helping it, that people will figure out a way to game it.

Steam Reveiews revamp I'm arguing with people in the comment section of the Steam announcement. Some don't understand what its actually is and lot of them say this is censorship. Oh boy... It's a wild ride in the comments, I say ya. :D
The steamos image works on my 64 bit desktop PC. Testing it now. Literally just like booting a Linux distro - Arch. Can someone else test it? I have all AMD hardware. Also, probably common sense, but Nvidia drivers are not hard to install from command line? When you boot double click reimage steam deck and it works. Seeing as though steam deck and Rog ally are just x64 PCs.
Think i'll wait and see about two point museum, guessing ittl have the usual denuvo rubbish slowing it down so a no go for me, same reason i didnt buy campus, two point hospital had denuvo removed so i got that, hopefully the rest will follow suit, many, many, years later no doubt, wishlisting them until then, i can wait.
Automation is useful for a lot of things, but managing social matters and making policy decisions that define society itself is not one of them. Having an automated advisor to hell moderators and officials save time is fine. Tying to reduce that process to a "Confirm / Deny / Mark For Human Review" is also not wise because it discourages critical thinking and owning responsibility for decisions.
Match 1060 on SD huh? the Steam Deck is way closer to a 1050 than a 1060, maybe on a Rog Ally which is closer to that perf level... the perf difference is real and if Ragnarok will work at all on steam deck it will be barely holding 30 on lowest of low setting... -.- same as with GOW (2018) or both of the Horizon games... these games should not even be considered as playable since the settings you have to use are missing most of the shadows, hi-res textures, global illumination, reflections, AA, physics and they have pretty bad artifacting if used with FSR...
Fun fact I'm friends with the guy that did the voice of the DJ in Two Point Hospital his name is "Marc Silk" he use to come to the arcade I worked to play pinball he's a super friendly guy and he has a pretty cool dog also, honestly check out the work of "Marc Silk" you will be suprised what else hes been in from kids cartoons to starwars the man has done a lot.
Both Steam & GOG need to add on their store's search filter a "prologue" choice too so I can filter out all of them when I want to look for cheap games. It's especially bad on GOG. It can be as annoying as heck getting spammed with a flood of demos, DLC, and prologues instead of the main game. If I want the other stuff I'd just set the filters to look just for them.
Yea, people always say get the Ally because it can play all your games. But at that point, you’re not comparing devices, you’re comparing OS’s. I’d want to see the actual breakdown if both devices had full support on both OS’s and see the actual winner.
I'm playing most games on Steam Deck, and on Manjaro on my PCs. It will depend a bit on whether you lean multiplayer or single player, as it sounds like the primary reason for incompatibility is anti-cheat.
@@JudahiamKng Pretty sure my PC is more powerful than an ROG Ally. 😀 Also - I didn't say everything runs perfectly smooth on the Steam Deck. Some stuff does drop frames and runs at a lower framerate. For me personally, I play more slower paced and indie games so it doesn't bother me as much. I don't have the reflexes for something like the latest Call of Duty. So your mileage may vary.
Outside of multiplayer centric games, a la Siege, CoD, Battlefield, you can run pretty much everything on Linux. Long as you're willing to modify launch parameters and tinker with it a bit to get it running, you'll be fine on Linux.
You know if anyone payed attention to Epic Games lately, they have been very aggressive in marketing and the quality of their weekly free games are hot along with many more exclusives to their platform. This is an interesting development but I think I’ll stick with steam for now because the launcher of Epic still very much worse.
Epic is another Microsoft. It's not about innovative features for helping the client based. It's about capturing an audience. And just like Microsoft. As soon as the audience is captured, raise the prices.

I will never buy any Sony game which requires a PSN-account. Singleplayer only in the case of Sony and if there is any PSN nonsense going on then I have 0 interest in the game, even if it is a fun singleplayer game. I hope that the old Sony games (2x Spiderman, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, maybe The Last of Us) don't require this PSN nonsense. It is bad enough to have 1 launch-app, it is incredibly annoying to have a 2nd one on top of it. It make the game launch much slower, it is one more link in the chain which can eaisly break and I don't want this extra Sony-software which imposes additional risks.
Why did people talk about steamOs on other devices is win for valve?! But what deck user's?! Now value mading deck as emulator for other handhelds and it's like if sony made ps5 emulator for xbox deck users like me feel why i never buy other device stronger than deck with steamOs it will run games better than deck himself with updates from valves, and we still today steam deck oled without full windows drivers better to valve asked about sending deck to her and give us other device not made by them .

There won't be a SteamOS 3. Valve hates the number 3. They will probably release SteamOS 2 Episode 1 and 2 then a VR version of the SteamOS.

2:20 ghost of sushi works on linux just fine. It just doesnt have steam deck verification due to the overlay

Hell, they won't even acknowledge their current in-the-works game. It's currently one of the most played games right now. And they don't even acknowledge its existence.
They say the road to hell is paved by good intentions. While I agree that they need to make some changes to prioritize helpful reviews over the memes and ASCII art, and what they're looking to do SOUNDS good to me, we all know how people don't always react favorably to change.

This. It sucks having to dock it, set up downloads, and turn off the monitor or tv to let stuff download without the screen on.
I just want Steam to stop slamming a single processor core at complete random. It's not like it's actually getting anything done. It's just caught in an infinite loop of nothing until I restart the client. Been like that for years...

I think we're going to start seeing the ceiling of what the steam that can do in the next few months. I doubt that God of war will run well on the steam deck. At this point I see the deck as a great system to play full blown blockbuster games from 2023 and prior, as well as some lower end games into the future.
I don't see it running the new God of war. I don't see it running the new Doom game for 2025 either, unless people want 30fps on a shooter.
I would like to see steam not prevent loading into a single player game map with mods just because of a lost connection. They could easily just load what is stored locally instead of insisting on updating those mods, like in avorion and doace engineers

@@StingerAJ because it also does not load as it is supposed to. You end up having to go into the file structure itself and copy files to do that, it would be simpler to have the programs to attempt to update and if that failed to run with the files as locally stored, anyone with a functional brain would see that is the more sane option anyway to setup steam as.

@@StingerAJ i would suspect that is the case since with avorion i can have a map loaded up and i am playing and the moment the steam client loses connection it causes the game to throw an error and save and exit. Space engineers does not do this last i played it, it just would not load up the map if the connection was not active or if it got interupted while it was in the process of loading. I rarely play online since folks have too much of a tendency to dog pile on solo players and playing in groups has too often ended up in working on their goals and no progress on my own.
I personally do not see the point in running SteamOS on other devices, when the entire point of a ROG Ally or Legion Go is to have a Windows device that allows you to play all of the games your Steam Deck does not. It great for those that want the option though.
Yes it simply is about customers choice (and of course having an OS-image with a pre-installed steam client..., on the other hand, that is better than MS with their pre-installed bullshit).
Windows on a handheld is **unusable**. SteamOS is a perfect PC gaming experience on a handheld. You be the judge.
@@gardiner_bryant One of my best friends has a steam deck and a Lenovo Legion Go, and since he has the latter, he loves playing BG3 on it, presumably due to the bigger display. So it seems to me this is working somewhat well with those devices. I think if you got into the new Steam Big Picture Mode it really isn't a big issue anymore with using the desktop. But I agree that Valve makes it easy with the default game mode on the SD.
@@gardiner_bryant I own a Steam Deck, it's great device and SteamOS is wonderful when it supports the games you want. However, it's far from perfect, which is why I must dual boot with Windows to play my Game Pass library, COD, Fortnite, Destiny 2, etc. I have no doubt Valve will continue to improve SteamOS, but when you simply just want to play your library of games, SteamOS can get in the way sometimes.
Regardless, I can't help but feel that if your goal is to use SteamOS, why not buy the device that is built from the ground up for it.
If the only games you play are through Steam, or the games you would want to play on a handheld, it makes perfect sense.

Can the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra be used on the Steam Deck using the cable or wireless adapter? It can by Bluetooth but loses the haptic feedback which makes it no fun.
I want them to be more accurate with the great on deck titles, gta is labeled playable and runs amazing, dl2 is verified and cant even run at low settings... and the only reason they added what games are verified are so you know what works, but it's horribly inaccurate and forces you to do your on research regardless. The plastic touchpads aren't meant to be used much... my right track pad either has an impossible to removed grease stain (no grease feeling) or has worn down after just 150 hours... I get its plastic, but 2 weeks for signs of wear? My steam deck was meant to replace my home console, so it's certainly being put through the ringer
i hope the reviews do get human reviews as u said rather then ai as the ascii art and emot's reviews could be the in depth reviews that use certain ascii characters to divide pros and cons then each thing like story music and so on with its own score. as for the store page i don't think they should remove the main game site for the game as some games ex titan quest have more info on characters and mechanics for people looking in the game, now they can add that info into the steam page but it would probably be extremely messy and steam doesn't really have taps in pages other then drop downs. but that being said im excited to see how it all goes as valve has been doing good with this years updates imo.
what I am most interested in is whether or not valve will explore new steam machines. I'd love to own a modernized one that is like my steam deck. and for new handhelds to be able to actually compete with the deck. Every single person I've seen with a ROG Ally or MSi Claw seems to regret buying one over the deck you can see it in the resale value of those devices vs the deck. And honestly it's simply because Windows sucks and microsoft hasn't made a front end or version of Windows for these handhelds.

SteamOS is just in time for Windows dropping support of Windows 10 and forcing a subscription licensing model. Currently use Steackdeck as a gaming Pc and old gaming PC has become a server other than games that don't play on linux. I can see myself switching to dual boot with linux until I can no longer use windows
Unless something has changed in the last few days, Microsoft going to a sub model for Windows is nothing more than rumor.

I didn't script this video or the last one. I just read the news articles to myself and then turned on the camera. My other videos I usually spend the first four to five hours writing out my thoughts, and then I'd load the script into a teleprompter and perform the script.
In the unscripted videos, it's less of a performance and I'm just being myself. I'm quite subdued and shy IRL, and this is more of my authentic self. Haha
This video (and the previous one) I just winged it. Both these videos have had a positive response, so I think I'm gonna keep going in this direction. Thanks for noticing!
For me steam is a storage place for my games that makes whatever game I want available to me to play whenever I like. No revamping can make it better than that but they can make it worse. As they wisely say don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Humm.. The changes to reviews sounds ok 'on paper', but im hesitant to trust it. It feels like it can either overwhelm whoever is curating those reviews, or if some kind of AI is doing it or helping it, that people will figure out a way to game it.

Steam Reveiews revamp
I'm arguing with people in the comment section of the Steam announcement. Some don't understand what its actually is and lot of them say this is censorship. Oh boy... It's a wild ride in the comments, I say ya. :D
The steamos image works on my 64 bit desktop PC. Testing it now. Literally just like booting a Linux distro - Arch. Can someone else test it? I have all AMD hardware. Also, probably common sense, but Nvidia drivers are not hard to install from command line? When you boot double click reimage steam deck and it works. Seeing as though steam deck and Rog ally are just x64 PCs.
We all know that Valve can't count to three...
Think i'll wait and see about two point museum, guessing ittl have the usual denuvo rubbish slowing it down so a no go for me, same reason i didnt buy campus, two point hospital had denuvo removed so i got that, hopefully the rest will follow suit, many, many, years later no doubt, wishlisting them until then, i can wait.

Automation is useful for a lot of things, but managing social matters and making policy decisions that define society itself is not one of them.
Having an automated advisor to hell moderators and officials save time is fine. Tying to reduce that process to a "Confirm / Deny / Mark For Human Review" is also not wise because it discourages critical thinking and owning responsibility for decisions.

Match 1060 on SD huh? the Steam Deck is way closer to a 1050 than a 1060, maybe on a Rog Ally which is closer to that perf level... the perf difference is real and if Ragnarok will work at all on steam deck it will be barely holding 30 on lowest of low setting... -.- same as with GOW (2018) or both of the Horizon games... these games should not even be considered as playable since the settings you have to use are missing most of the shadows, hi-res textures, global illumination, reflections, AA, physics and they have pretty bad artifacting if used with FSR...

I wish you could rate a game without having to include a review. I dont want to put a meme or ASCII art in there so I dosnt rate games.
Both Steam & GOG need to add on their store's search filter a "prologue" choice too so I can filter out all of them when I want to look for cheap games. It's especially bad on GOG. It can be as annoying as heck getting spammed with a flood of demos, DLC, and prologues instead of the main game. If I want the other stuff I'd just set the filters to look just for them.
The review system news is terrible. Pretty sure we all know what kind of content they will moderate.
What people fail to realize is you need windows to run most games so this isn’t really a W for Rog ally users
Yea, people always say get the Ally because it can play all your games.
But at that point, you’re not comparing devices, you’re comparing OS’s.
I’d want to see the actual breakdown if both devices had full support on both OS’s and see the actual winner.
I'm playing most games on Steam Deck, and on Manjaro on my PCs. It will depend a bit on whether you lean multiplayer or single player, as it sounds like the primary reason for incompatibility is anti-cheat.

For me personally, I play more slower paced and indie games so it doesn't bother me as much. I don't have the reflexes for something like the latest Call of Duty.
So your mileage may vary.
Outside of multiplayer centric games, a la Siege, CoD, Battlefield, you can run pretty much everything on Linux. Long as you're willing to modify launch parameters and tinker with it a bit to get it running, you'll be fine on Linux.
You know if anyone payed attention to Epic Games lately, they have been very aggressive in marketing and the quality of their weekly free games are hot along with many more exclusives to their platform.
This is an interesting development but I think I’ll stick with steam for now because the launcher of Epic still very much worse.

Epic Games for the past 5 years with the existence of its own storefront hasn’t done many innovative stuffs on the level of Valve w/ steam and aggressively pushed hard into the Pc Market by obtaining Exclusive Deals and lawsuits against Apple and Google.

I will never buy any Sony game which requires a PSN-account. Singleplayer only in the case of Sony and if there is any PSN nonsense going on then I have 0 interest in the game, even if it is a fun singleplayer game. I hope that the old Sony games (2x Spiderman, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, maybe The Last of Us) don't require this PSN nonsense. It is bad enough to have 1 launch-app, it is incredibly annoying to have a 2nd one on top of it. It make the game launch much slower, it is one more link in the chain which can eaisly break and I don't want this extra Sony-software which imposes additional risks.
Why did people talk about steamOs on other devices is win for valve?! But what deck user's?! Now value mading deck as emulator for other handhelds and it's like if sony made ps5 emulator for xbox deck users like me feel why i never buy other device stronger than deck with steamOs it will run games better than deck himself with updates from valves, and we still today steam deck oled without full windows drivers better to valve asked about sending deck to her and give us other device not made by them .
