1:50 there is also the fact that going for 6 core for gaming back in 2011 (like i did) was more like a bet for the future as game and apps never used more than 4 cores anyway. So glad i bought the 3930k back then
nope, but sure, you need a specific case for a 4 channel memory. I mean it makes some difference in gaming but not much, so it's useful where you need that bandwidth :)
@@EpicGameTech quad channel it make my ddr3 last longer. You either want a compact laser focus build or something with enouth space and feature to be future proof. And today: the fact that i bought a modular PSU back then made me even more happy when Nvidia mention 12pin connector for their new RTX.. i am RTX 30 ready since 2011. Love it!
:DD nice Well, that 12pin most likely to be only on FE models by NVIDIA. But their partners like Asus/EVGA etc. will make like 2x 8 pin, or 3x8pin (3090?) connectors so they would not need to ship GPUs with adapters (= more expensive to manufacture i guess) :) Anyway, we all are awaiting for RTX 3000 to be available!
You probably mean all core OC :) Yep, but it depends, if you are using application that uses 1 core you might lose some perf, if the application can utilize all cores - you will gain performance ;)
Ah, I see :) Nice uplift, but probably it's for 1440p/4k gaming already. Anyways, 3930k is still rocking quite well, having in mind you can pair it with gtx 1080/rtx 2080 GPUs ;)
My i7-3930k system is still rocking (August 2021)! It's all-core OC-ed to 4.6GHz on ASUS RIVE, with 1080ti SLI OC-ed to 2050MHz, all on custom water loop. Able to play all the games on high/ultra, including Alyx on HP Reverb G2 headset.
Sli? ;D sound like a premium build system a while ago :) Hmm, but I suspect 3930k should show its age using 1080ti @ 1080p, especially in esports titles. But higher resolutions 1440p/4k probably still running goood.
@@EpicGameTech Thanks, I should have clarified that my monitor is 5M pixels (3440x1400) 100Hz with G-sync, so fortunately I am not seeing the CPU bottleneck at 4.6GHz. In VR it's even less of an issue with 8M pixels (2160 x 2160 per eye on HP Reverb G2). SLI is unfortunately dead going forward, and I will try to replace the 1080ti-s with a single Ampere GA102 card to see if the CPU can still hold its own...
We built our eldest daughter's rig with the HuananZhi X79 deluxe ($130) + XEON E5-4627V2 (8 core/8 thread, $110 at the time) + 32GB REEC in quad ($80), coupled to a GTX 1080Ti that I bought in late NOV 2019 for only $350 (today they want over 2x this price). The mobo is not overclockable, so the locked XEON with natively high turbo and all core clocking was a perfect match and easier on the chinese VRM's...which I have an 60mm fan cooling directly (for safe measure). She also runs the HP Reverb 2 on this rig and it really is working quite well. Easily manages 1080p titles in high/ultra without issues. Nice things about the HuananZhi X79 are its quality build and bootable NVME m.2! Very happy with the HP Reverb 2, which we heavily researched as it was out first VR purchase. Glad we did all of our builds right before the mining/supply chain craze...prices today are ridiculous, especially on the GPUs.
Hi. Just discovered your channel, good stuff! I'm running a 3930k at 4.7GHz with an Asus rampage IV extreme, 32gb of hyperX memory clocking at 2000mhz , 500Gb ssd and for the graphics I have an msi Rtx 2070 Super ventus OC . I'm using a Hydro 100 extreme for the cpu. Awesome 1080 and 1440p performance. I did some 4k runs on it too Doom eternal on 4k ultra nightmare setting 80-90 fps Mortal kombat XL @4K highest settings 60-65fps Monster jam Steel Titans highest settings @4K 65-70 fps Monster
Hey, welcome ;) Yep, so basically you can play 4k @ 60fps no probs most of the games. No need to upgrade 9 years old platform :))) unless you really want something like a new esports titles running 144 or 240hz etc.
hi can you give* setting for overclock , i to have rampage iv at use 4.4 by 1.385 and 1866. Or say voltage and calibrate mod and for ram thx from russia
I have x79 with xeon e5-1680v2 at 4.4ghz all core 16 threats + 32gb 2400mhz quad channel RAM + geforce rtx 3080! It's a killer! Uwqhd 1440p runs so good in 2021aaa titles
hah, yes i bet it is :) Especially if you play 1440p or 4k ultra settings or even Ray Tracing enabled. Then it's all about a GPU performance. Sure, you might have a bit fewer fps than with the newest CPU, but with those rez/settings, it's mostly GPU bound and the goal is to have 60+ fps and not 144+ 8 years old cpu and still rocks
I've used my 3930k and P9X79 PRO for the past 8 years. Still runs like a beast. Upgrading this week only because of m.2 SSD's and my lian li case needed and extra usb header to utilize the extra usb 3 ports on the front IO. Upgraded to 11700k and Aorus z590 Master (still with a gtx 1080 cause GPU prices are stupid)
Still using mine...built in 2012. ASUS Rampage board, intel 3930k, 32gb, eVGA 1070ftw. Only thing I’ve replaced is the ps, 2 years ago. Considering getting a 3080. Thoughts?
Hey, well, I guess you will be playing 4k resolution? :) Using higher resolutions might be OK if you overclock your CPU. But using lower-res lie 1440p / 1080p you will lose more performance compared to some newer platform/CPU. But even @ 4k, you might not get 60fps in all games with 3930k, like 45-60 fps maybe, while with the new platform you would get like 60-80 fps @ 4k max settings. This is a bit of the "guessing", but a very possible scenario. And as I've mentioned, using 1440p you would potentially "loose" or not gain much more fps than in 4k. In general, I think 3930k can be pared with rtx 2070 / super level GPU and if you get anything above, I would upgrade the whole platform. That's my thoughts, doesn't mean I'm 100% right etc :)
@@EpicGameTech Thank you for the quick response! I'm really torn as to what to do. The 'old' beast is working fine, but I really want to start getting into 4k 60+ fps gaming.
Well, I bet there are no decent 3930k + RTX 3080 benchmarks :) I've found just one vid 3930k + RTX 3080: ua-cam.com/video/o2p5tKSb-Hk/v-deo.html But still, there were some benchmarks and just one esports game that is not quite demanding :) So you need to get 3080 and test it for yourself. If it doesn't perform on the level you need, well you will sell the x79 platform and get a newer one :)
Just upgraded my 10 year old i7 3820 2011 to a 3970x to make it last alittle longer and better until I build my new build. Motherboard is a Asus P9X79 pro.
@@EpicGameTech still stable. runs @ 4.4-4.7 but the power draw would be a bit high compared to today's standards I'll admit. likely keep using this setup till it doesn't boot anymore haha
This is what I've been using since late 2011. It's still going strong. I future proofed very well with this build. I think I spent $2700 building this PC.
@@EpicGameTech I used to run two EVGA 680 FTW cards in SLI, but then I went to just one, and now I’m on a 1070. I’m not sure if I should put a 3080 in this machine or build new!
Ah i see :) Well really not sure about rtx 3080. Would be nice to test it but i doubt anyone did this combo (maybe Tech Yes City?:) At higher resolutions and ultra settings with 60fps target it could handle better card than gtx 1070 (maybe rtx 2070 super/rtx 3060 ti?) But i doubt it would utilize rtx 3080 to its full potential. Especially fo higher fps gaming :)
i have the asrock fatal1ty x79 professional and the i7 3930k. It was my first pc and now i might be able to cash in on it since its been sitting here. i didnt think id be able to get anything so thanks for the video!
Bought this CPU for my sons build, got it cheap second hand. It's a great CPU. Only problem I had was getting the mobo, quite rare for some reason and ended up paying 180 quid for one. He's limited to 1080p due to his msi monitor but eats AAA titles for breakfast. The amount of RAM it supports is mental.
4930k still going strong since 2014. Paired it with 1080 Ti and kicks enough ass, will keep it for the next 2 years then switch to something stronger...like a 5090 Ti and whatever Ryzen processor is popular at the time.
managed to buy an ASUS P9X79Pro (mint, with original box, paperwork and all accessories) for $20 locally in a package deal. Then, an E5-1680V2 (8C/16T, OC to 4.4Ghz on Air) for only $155. Coupled with 32GB (8x4GB) 1600 desktop RAM (HyperX Fury, $120), this setup runs very well.
@@EpicGameTech Yes, he sold in a package deal for $220...including an i7 3820 (Sold for $70 at the time) + 32GB 1600 desktop RAM (worth $120 at the time/ I kept for my office build) + CoolerMaster H412S tower cooler (worth $30, repurposed for my eldest daughter's PC). I say the board cost me only $20...to give it some value...but the truth is...I really got it for free!

I still have intel i7 extreme 3960x, x79 motherboard and 32 gb ram dd3 with nvidia 1080, works great for all the tasks. However will it be able to run 3080? I am thinking about that gpu now and can see no reason yet to change my cpu at all. I would really appreciate it if you could compare similar systems with only difference being: intel 3930 + DD3 in one build and intel 10th gen + DD4 in another build while keeping everything else (SSD, GPU) the same. Now THAT would really show the difference in CPUs evolution.
Nice build you have mate! :) Unfortunately, I do not own this system any more (I got it for building and for testing especially for this video). But your concerns regarding RTX 3080 are legit. And actually would be really interesting to see 3930k/3960x + RTX 3080 vs let's say 10600k (same core count). I might get RTX 3070 in 1-2 months for some PC Build, but not sure about RTX 3080. It's out of stock or +50% price at the moment and so more stock should come in 2021 only :) I can just assume, in higher resolutions and 60fps target - the difference should be lower but in high fps gaming should be bigger. I actually had some experience where older vs new platform means a lot in high fps - some time ago, I owned I7-4770 paired with gtx 1060. While 1080p gaming was really nice, but after upgrading to i5-8400, I got some massive competitive high FPS games performance uplift. Even though it was 4c/8c vs 6c and in many benchmarks, they are quite similar. But some games fps can skyrocket just because of ddr3 to ddr4, faster single-core speed and new architecture :)
@@EpicGameTech thank you very much for your reply and for your thoughts. I think I might keep the CPU to test it with 3080 someday when I have it in the future. So as I understand, if my goal is 4k 60 fps, then it's fine (or at least should be fine), but if I want for example lower resolution with higher FPS, it should rely more on CPU and then I'll get bottlenecked? Thanks, and great video btw!
More or less - yes. But you know, it's not a rule. And depends from the game (-s) you play. In general, I would say 3960x will bottleneck RTX 3080. But hard to say, by how much. In other worse, upgrading CPU (platform) you would benefit (would get more fps) as-well when using RTX 3080. Since no one ever tested this combo yet, you can be the 1st one to do it :))
@@EpicGameTech I wonder, how much PCI-E 3.0 will bottleneck 3080 which is PCI-E 4.0 card. I'd love to see the performance comparison between 3080 connected to PCI-E 3.0 and the same card connected to PCI-E 4.0. Does this bottleneck the card at all?
@@twinsen_rus nope, PCIe 3.0 is not bottlenecking 3080 for sure. I think Tech Yes City made some benchmarks and even PCIe 2.0 has just a small drop in many cases :)
Great video. X79 is still a great platform especially if you can get your hands on Xeon CPUs. I bought a used T5610 workstation with dual E5-2560 V2 CPUs and 128 GBs of RAM. It is a great machine and runs very fast. Plus I can multitask with no slowdown.
True, tubs should be up because of the air inside of AIO, but it was hard to manage tubs not to touch top fans when tried :) those are really hard tubes Will try to ply around more Thanks! :)
@@EpicGameTech because the water tank is where the tubes are. And air goes to the top and the water stays in the tank. But a config like that works against each other and air gets trapped in the tank and no circulation.
Gamer Nexus recently released interesting video regarding AIO Mounting - ua-cam.com/video/BbGomv195sk/v-deo.html While it's not always possible to mount in the best way for sure. Probably case/AOI brands should think of this more as-well. Also, It depends on how much air % is in AOI i guess. More air = worse in case you mount it not entirely correctly :)
Nice video, I have an i7-3960X with the same GPU on an nice Asus X79 motherboard. It would be interesting to see the comparison to the Ryzen 3600 but using the same GPU (1080).
Thanks ;) Unfortunately, I do not own gtx 1080 any more. Anyway, I assume in most scenarios when your goal is 60 fps on a higher resolution like 1440p, the difference should be quite low. But say for super high-fps competitive games, Ryzen 5 3600 system should be a clear winner. Since a newer platform, faster ram and faster cpu will bring those PFs up where CPU power is needed. Also, it depends from the game optimization. I remember I had such a situation: I owned i7-4770 + gtx 1070 and FPS in Quake Champions @ 1080p were like 100-140. Then, I've upgraded to i5-8400 and kept same gtx 1070. In theory, i7-4770 and i5-8400 should be quite a similar performance 4c/8t vs 6c and many benchmarks shows they produce similar performance. BUT, after an upgrade to i5-8400, i saw a massive (almost 2x) FPS jump in Quake champions, to 180-280 fps. Sure, it's an esports title and I was using low settings @ 1080p to get super high fps. So the newer platform gave this insane jump. And I'm quite sure, it was related to game optimization for sure. But again, in a scenario when using Ultra settings or higher resolution, FPS improvement wouldn't have been so drastic :) So it all depends what are your needs.
Very professional and entertaining, thanks ! You could also have added the CPU percentage use bar to the stats so we know how much room we can expect with this CPU for the next years. For example, I'm considering buying an Alienware R4 for a cheap price but I don't want to get bottleneck right away :-)
But x79 motherboard pricing is still crazy :) Well, only aliexpress ones are ok At this point, I think new platforms (AM4 or Intel 12th gen) will take over, unless pricing of x79 motherboard + cpu combo will drop drastically. Even now i5-10400f + motherboard can be bought pretty much the same price as branded x79 motherboard + 3930k and the new platform will get you more fps. So I hope x79 prices will go down. Or it will remain only for super enthusiasts / one time deals ;)
What is the best gpu to pair with an i7-3970k not overclocked ? I have a gtx 1070 right now but looking to upgrade and do not want to rebuild with a new chipset. Looking to maximize performance with what I currently have
Hey, probably you meant 3970x? :) Well, in terms of pc build age, your combo is quite good for 1080p gaming. But sure, 3970x could handle even better GPU. Actually, it depends on what kind of resolution/settings/games you want to play, In case you want higher rez like 4k and 60fps high settings even RTX 3080 would probably work (but I probably would not recommend 3080 for such an old system anyway). You would gain more fps with a newer CPU in that rez, but in general, GPU is more important on bigger rez. In case you want 1440p @ 60, then probably RTX 3060ti/RTX 3070. 1080p? GTA 1080ti / RTX 2070 super / RTX 3060 etc.
If you are going to use Intel X79 Chipset in 2020 , you should check Intel Xeon Cpu from AliExpress , with good motherboard you can overclock many Xeon To 4 GHZ+.
@@EpicGameTech I think he was referring to the XEON CPU's. I have an E5-1680V2 (8C/16T) that is now selling for $155; this CPU can easily OC to 4.5Ghz with decent cooling. The E5-1650V2 is another great buy (6C/12T) and you can find these for only $75. The 1650's are easily overclocked to 4.5+Ghz. I also picked up an E5-1650V2 locally for only $60. If you have a name brand X79 motherboard like ASUS (P9X79 Pro/Deluxe, ROG IV, ROG Black edition), MSI (Big Bang) , or AsRock (xTreme 4 or greater)...then overclocking is a must with these CPU's. Typically, the local deals best for the motherboards...AliEx or eBay for the CPU's. IMO.
Is this still worth getting for games such as zDOOM (Classic doom port) will it handle semi modern games and apps decently without stutters and crashes ? thanks !
Well this system still can handle modern games. But as always, it depends from the price of this cpu+motherboard in yoir region/country. Sometimes old systems (especially x79 motherboards) goes for the same price as new parts like i3-12100 or ryzen 5 5500. And these new systems will be way better if same price, as you will have decent upgrade path etc.
Is it with GPU? Or only CPU + motherboard + ram + ssd? For $240 you can get new: Ryzen 5 4500 + Gigabyte B550M DS3H + 16 gb ram (3200mhz) It would cost ~$240 Sure, you still need ssd + psu + gpu. But later on, you could swap ryzen 5 4500 (cheapest ryzen 5 atm) to ryzen 5 5600 or even 8 cores like ryzen 7 5700x and the system would last way longer than old x79 system. Unless you get everything including GPU/PSU for $250, than it's probably good :)
i just got a ASUS P9X79 PRO motherboard with a 3930k a asetek cooler and 16gb 1600mhz ram for £95 ($130) paired with my rtx 2060 its a beast but i just checked the supported cpu list and a i7 4960x is supported on this board so im goign to pick one of them up

Yep, quite a niche thing. I doubt i would find any in my country at all :)) Also, it's definitely for a custom/exclusive pc build but not for a majority of gamers/streamers for sure.
Hey, it should be enough, especially if your gtx 1080 has 1x 8pin for power. So one 1080 consumes ~200watts under load, meaning ~400w with two 1080s. And a CPU, well it depends if you overclock it. If not, it should suck ~230w, if OC to 4.4 Ghz could go up to 350w. And so, if you push your CPU to max OC, your CPU + GPUs will consume ~750w meaning 100w left for other things. So it's really a stretch, as it's best to have ~80% load on your PSU and not 100%. But in case you run your CPU stock, or a smaller OC, then your CPU + GPU would draw ~650w + some watts from other devices and PSU would run 85-90%. In this case, it would be probably ok. Have in mind, I guessed lots of things here like your GPU power draw (as some gtx 1080 have 2x 8pin, meaning they could potentially draw more than 200w, especially if you overclock them). Also, I do not know if you run extended productivity sessions where your cpu and GPUs both are running 100% etc. So quite a few variables I do not know of your system. But probably you have a better picture now from the numbers I wrote here. So, in case you OC cpu and GPU (or GPU has 2x 8pin) I would go for 1000w. In case everything runs stock - 850w should probably work ok :) P.s. for some reason your comment was filtered to "Held for review" section and I've noticed it just now. that's why I replied just today :)
Hey, really good prices in my opinion. In my country i7-3970x is around 170 EUR (200 usd) and even on aliexpress it's ~150 USD. Also, X79 motherboards are like 2x more expensive here as-well. So getting this combo for ~$110 is a nice deal IMO. Could be a decent used/budget PC build. Well actually not that budget, as i7-3970x could handle quite a decent GPU like gtx 1080 ti / rtx 2080 super / rtx 3060 ti etc. But have in mind, there will be no upgrade path for such a system as you already get pretty much the best cpu on this platform. But sure, for a budget PC it will work for sure, as i7-3970x is still a beast ;)
Currently looking at this case but the one that comes with 4x ARGB fans included for i7 4790k 4.7ghz paired with Corsair h100i and EVGA hybrid gtx 980ti @ 1450mhz core clock 7700mhz memory clock.
Hey, so is it a full build you will be buying? Or you currently have i7-4790k and will use that case for that? Depending from a price in your country, this one is quite average from quality perspective. I mean nothing bad or etc. Sure, it looks quite cool and has RGB fans + mesh front. But it's not a better option than other cases with mesh for sure :)
For my current Pc The price just seems reasonable for what it offers especially considering how it performs. Edit: £80 for it that’s with 4x of the ARGB fans included 3 in front 1 in rear. www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-MAG-FORGE-101M-Computer/dp/B082XH5HWY
Phantex P300A Mesh is also worth considering. Which graphics card I need for this -X79 M-S motherboard set with LGA2011 combos Xeon E5 2630V2 CPU 4pcs x 4GB=16GB memory DDR3 ECC RAM 1333Mhz NVME M.2 slot
Hey, it depends on what resolution you want to play, as if it's like 1080p and esports titles with higher fps (like 100-144hz monitor), you could get a cheaper GPU for that (maybe rx570) and it would perform the same as the more expensive one as in this rez/settings CPU would be a limit. But e.g. if you want like 1440p rez, or just 60fps using High settings in story games, then you could get a better GPU as on higher rez/higher settings games are more GPU bound. But in general, I would go for rx570 / rx580 / gtx 1060 / gtx 1650 super for a similar build. As obviously, you don't want to get premium GPU for a budget build. Maybe like gtx 1070 or gtx 1660 tu/super if you want 1440p with higher graphics :) But in general, before this all GPU price mess, I would recommend going rx 570 / rx 580 as these GPUs had the best price-to-performance before the pandemic. And now - it depends a lot, how much these and other GPUs I've mentioned above cost in your country/region.
@@EpicGameTech I gave up my GTX 1080Ti to my daughter, who uses it in VR play. Went with a new RX590 that I bought for $170 in Jan 2020 (just missed the massive price trend by weeks!). I would definitely recommend a good condition RX470/570 8GB or RX480/580 8GB ( the four series can sometimes be updated through new flash to 5 series at no additional cost)...go for the 8GB variants. The RX590 is not as popular as the RX580, so harder to find used. RX580 8GB Sapphire would be my first choice for 1080p at hi settings, if doing a budget build, else the GTX 1650 Super (slightly faster/newer tech).
I've been using 3930k for absolute ages, it got me through 3d animation school all the years ago, but im noticing that at 1440p the games are not so smooth anymore. Im considering getting 3950x ryzen as a replacement or even 3900x, just want something that would be a very substantial upgrade. Why are the x79 motherboards so expensive though ? Mine is p9x79 pro from asus and i really dont know how to price the pc or the motherboard+cpu combo if i decide to let it go soon.
Hey. Regarding 1440p - did you try monitoring CPU/GPU usage with MSI Afterburner when gaming? Regarding an upgrade, you do not need 3950x for sure, even 3900x is too much. I mean unless you are getting RTX 3090 and want not only gaming but also rendering etc. you could get those CPUs. But I would say in 3 weeks, we will have Ryzen 5000, so I bet it will be way better to get Ryzen 7 5800x or even Ryzen 5 5600x instead or Ryzen 9 3900x for sure. We have to wait and check the first reviews. So a question is to what GPU you will be upgrading along with a CPU upgrade? Well, X79 motherboard was quite expensive in general. And it's more of the enthusiast-level platform and not so many of those GOOD boards were manufactured I guess. You can get quite a cheap x79 from aliexpress but it will not have OC capabilities or quad-channel memory. Yep, it's crazy, asus p9x79 pro on ebay is ~$200. The funny thing is CPUs are not that expensive, jut the motherboards :)
@@EpicGameTech Im still running 980ti, so it might be a time to step up to 3080 rtx whenever i can make the jump, or get a 5700xt right now, my cpus is still a gold+ 850w so it should handle a few more years.
850w gold will be definitely enough for any GPU. Regarding 3930k and RTX3080 pair, not sure if a CPU will be able to keep up. RTX 3070 maybe? :) anyway, monitor CPU/ gpu utilization with MSI afterburner when gaming and check witch one is bottlenecking games you play. Then you will know what to upgrade ;)
Try an E5-1680V2 (8C/16T) OC'd to 4.5Ghz, paired with something like GTX 2080S/2080Ti or AMD equivalent. 32GB 1600 DDR3 RAM minimum, in quad channel of course. I am running the P9X79Pro paired with E5-1680V2 and it is a beast...at 4.5Ghz it hangs with 2700x. If you game at 1440P, invest in the right GPU for the job. You will need decent cooling for this combo. Air tower with minimum TDP rating of 230W, else water. I am using a PCCooler GI-D66A ($70) and it manages the load quite well.

Humm at 11:51 is possible to see the FPS in game and the chart and they dont actually match lol The chart does show 56 as the minimum, but the ingame fps average is 27 lol
Hey, Few things to consider when benchmarking: - I never benchmark and record game or built-in benchmark, ar recording affects fps numbers - What you see is a few seconds from a benchmark and so it might be tons of different scenes during a few minutes benhcmark and the average is calculated out of all the scenes - Most of the time I use the same in-game clips on the top-right to show what game was tested, so those clips can be used from a different gaming pc, as my videos are focussed on data rather than recorder in-game play. So they are just for background visuals while providing benchmark data :) I hope that explains and thanks for the feedback as I will include an explanation about this in future gaming pc benchmark videos :)
Bro when is the review of this case coming I am waiting as I am getting rid of nzxt h510 from that build as I removed cooler so for better airflow I am thinking of buying this one
In terms of airflow, this one is better. But in terms of a quality in general, NZXT is better (and from a design pov), I actually have video footage for this case overview, but I might do it only later on, since I've planned few other videos already for an upcoming month :)
I got a rampage board for mine, still going strong now even after 10 years of daily gaming 🤣 upgraded my gpu to a 1660 super oc edition before the prices went up though.
@@EpicGameTech unfortunately my old school harddrive is the real bottleneck, windows keeps it pegged at 100% most of the time😩 but at least I can still get 120 fps in warzone.
Are you using HDD or SSD? :) Also, when was the last time you did a completely fresh windows install? With a simple SSD and fresh install, windows should run more than fine for sure.
@@EpicGameTech hdd right now, my ssd was too small. Some of my software didn't play nice not on the boot drive, so I switched to a 2tb hdd a while back. Probably time to upgrade to a bigger ssd soon😅
Definitely go for an SSD, at least for OS drive, as it is day and night in terms of windows speed, that "feel" when any program opens 2x faster :) And SSDs are really cheap. At least, get like 240gb (or even 120gb if you are on a super budget) just for your Windows. In a new PC builds, i almost never go below 1TB ssd :)
For super budget? Stock ;) But in general, $15-20 coolers are quite good choice to replace stock coolers e.g. for ryzen 5 3600 Like Deepcool gte v2, Snowmann (from Aliexpress) etc. :)
Well, there are ping on a CPU (AMD) there are pins on a motherboard (Intel) and also PSU connectors called like 24pin connector etc. :) So where exactly you need help?
With PSU it's quite easy :) - 24pin biggest connector goes to your motherboard - Then 4pin OR 8 pin (depends on a motherboard) connector goes to your motherboard as well. - 6pin or 6+2 pin or even more goes to the video card. - SATA connector goes to SSD or HDD.
Ah. ncie one :) Did you monitor stats via MSI Afterburner while gaming etc? I wonder how such a combo performs in games. IS CPU limiting your 3060 ti performance in any games? :)
Hey, well, locally, in my country, someone was selling it. So you have a few options: > Ebay, but quite expensive models there. > Local site like craigslist.org where people are selling parts > Facebook Marketplace > Aliexpress - you can find cheap (well ~$100) motherboard that supports this CPU. But those Chinese brands motherboards are not true x79, as they support dual-channel memory and probably no OC possible since not the best VRMS on those boards. But they could run 3930k stock. The best way to find someone locally e.g. in craiglists selling decent x79 motherboard for a good price. But it's possible that no one is selling it, then those other websites :)
Hey, yep, you can. But it all depends on what price you can get these parts :) Possibly it's better to get new parts / new system for more or less the same budget and get even better experience, as x79 is more of an enthusiast platform. But as I've mentioned, it all depends on the price. For video editing I've made few other build videos: - Ryzen 7 3700x + rtx 2060 (a cost was ~$1200 at a time of building) - ua-cam.com/video/GxvvyQpvVDw/v-deo.html - Ryzen 9 3900x + RTX 3070 - ua-cam.com/video/pmr2U6M6sWk/v-deo.html
H, No, x79 motherboards are meant for older generation Intel CPUs. For i5-9600k you need to get a z390 or z370 (with updated bios) chipset motherboards :)
To be honest, your questions are kind of random in a way, that me answering each of them will probably not give you much value :) So if you really need some insights, please specify all the situation what exactly do you want to build, what exact parts do you have and +- how much you expect to spend :)
@@EpicGameTech basically I need a new processor my graphics and ram is fine I have a 1660 gtx ti and 16 gb of ram and that’s what I was wondering what motherboard I need to upgrade to a I-5 9600k
I see, what CPU do you have at the moment? :) Regarding motherboard and a gpu, it doesn't actually matted what motherboard you will get. Well, that 12pin most likely to be only on FE models by NVIDIA. But their partners like Asus/EVGA etc. will make like 2x 8 pin, or 3x8pin (3090?) connectors so they would not need to ship GPUs with adapters (= more expensive to manufacture i guess) :)

Sli? ;D sound like a premium build system a while ago :)
Hmm, but I suspect 3930k should show its age using 1080ti @ 1080p, especially in esports titles.

Hey,
well, I guess you will be playing 4k resolution? :)
Using higher resolutions might be OK if you overclock your CPU.

Unfortunately, I do not own this system any more (I got it for building and for testing especially for this video).
But your concerns regarding RTX 3080 are legit. And actually would be really interesting to see 3930k/3960x + RTX 3080 vs let's say 10600k (same core count).
I might get RTX 3070 in 1-2 months for some PC Build, but not sure about RTX 3080. It's out of stock or +50% price at the moment and so more stock should come in 2021 only :)
I can just assume, in higher resolutions and 60fps target - the difference should be lower but in high fps gaming should be bigger.
More or less - yes. But you know, it's not a rule. And depends from the game (-s) you play.

if you rotate the AIO so the tubes are at the bottom. Your temps should be lower. Water cannot circulate so good like that. The pump can run dry!

Unfortunately, I do not own gtx 1080 any more.
I remember I had such a situation:
I owned i7-4770 + gtx 1070 and FPS in Quake Champions @ 1080p were like 100-140.
But again, in a scenario when using Ultra settings or higher resolution, FPS improvement wouldn't have been so drastic :)
So it all depends what are your needs.
Very professional and entertaining, thanks ! You could also have added the CPU percentage use bar to the stats so we know how much room we can expect with this CPU for the next years. For example, I'm considering buying an Alienware R4 for a cheap price but I don't want to get bottleneck right away :-)
Glad yoi liked it ;)
Excellent platform for wise classic gamers!!
But x79 motherboard pricing is still crazy :) Well, only aliexpress ones are ok
At this point, I think new platforms (AM4 or Intel 12th gen) will take over, unless pricing of x79 motherboard + cpu combo will drop drastically. Even now i5-10400f + motherboard can be bought pretty much the same price as branded x79 motherboard + 3930k and the new platform will get you more fps.
So I hope x79 prices will go down. Or it will remain only for super enthusiasts / one time deals ;)
Hi my friend!! Nice vídeo. Do you know The Max temps This CPU suport?
What is the best gpu to pair with an i7-3970k not overclocked ? I have a gtx 1070 right now but looking to upgrade and do not want to rebuild with a new chipset. Looking to maximize performance with what I currently have
Hey,
probably you meant 3970x? :)
Well, in terms of pc build age, your combo is quite good for 1080p gaming. But sure, 3970x could handle even better GPU.
Actually, it depends on what kind of resolution/settings/games you want to play,
In case you want higher rez like 4k and 60fps high settings even RTX 3080 would probably work (but I probably would not recommend 3080 for such an old system anyway).
@@EpicGameTech Yes haha that is what i meant, Thank you so much for your response!
If you are going to use Intel X79 Chipset in 2020 , you should check Intel Xeon Cpu from AliExpress , with good motherboard you can overclock many Xeon To 4 GHZ+.
Yep, but cheap x79 from ali does not oc very well :) unless its decent motherboard
@@EpicGameTech can get 1 with 8gb ram , 180gb ssd for 250 used as a full system , good deal ?

Or only CPU + motherboard + ram + ssd?
For $240 you can get new:
Ryzen 5 4500 + Gigabyte B550M DS3H + 16 gb ram (3200mhz)
It would cost ~$240
Sure, you still need ssd + psu + gpu.

I have a 4960x /1080 x 2/X79 MB /5 fans/64GB DDR3 2400 / 1TB SSD/ 16 TB HD will a 850w PSU work?
Hey,
it should be enough, especially if your gtx 1080 has 1x 8pin for power.
In case everything runs stock - 850w should probably work ok :)
P.s. for some reason your comment was filtered to "Held for review" section and I've noticed it just now. that's why I replied just today :)

There are an i7 3970x for 55$ and X79 mobo for 53$ in my country . Should i get it.
Hey,
really good prices in my opinion.
Hey,
so is it a full build you will be buying?
Well no RGB but better quality case but 50 for case, and 30 for 3 rgb fans:

Which graphics card I need for this -X79 M-S motherboard set with LGA2011 combos Xeon E5 2630V2 CPU 4pcs x 4GB=16GB memory DDR3 ECC RAM 1333Mhz NVME M.2 slot
Hey,
it depends on what resolution you want to play, as if it's like 1080p and esports titles with higher fps (like 100-144hz monitor), you could get a cheaper GPU for that (maybe rx570) and it would perform the same as the more expensive one as in this rez/settings CPU would be a limit. But e.g. if you want like 1440p rez, or just 60fps using High settings in story games, then you could get a better GPU as on higher rez/higher settings games are more GPU bound.
But in general, I would go for rx570 / rx580 / gtx 1060 / gtx 1650 super for a similar build. As obviously, you don't want to get premium GPU for a budget build. Maybe like gtx 1070 or gtx 1660 tu/super if you want 1440p with higher graphics :)
But in general, before this all GPU price mess, I would recommend going rx 570 / rx 580 as these GPUs had the best price-to-performance before the pandemic.
anyway, monitor CPU/ gpu utilization with MSI afterburner when gaming and check witch one is bottlenecking games you play.

Hey,
Few things to consider when benchmarking:
- I never benchmark and record game or built-in benchmark, ar recording affects fps numbers
- What you see is a few seconds from a benchmark and so it might be tons of different scenes during a few minutes benhcmark and the average is calculated out of all the scenes
- Most of the time I use the same in-game clips on the top-right to show what game was tested, so those clips can be used from a different gaming pc, as my videos are focussed on data rather than recorder in-game play. So they are just for background visuals while providing benchmark data :)
I hope that explains and thanks for the feedback as I will include an explanation about this in future gaming pc benchmark videos :)
Bro when is the review of this case coming I am waiting as I am getting rid of nzxt h510 from that build as I removed cooler so for better airflow I am thinking of buying this one

With PSU it's quite easy :)
- 24pin biggest connector goes to your motherboard

- SATA connector goes to SSD or HDD.

> Local site like craigslist.org where people are selling parts
> Facebook Marketplace
> Aliexpress - you can find cheap (well ~$100) motherboard that supports this CPU. But those Chinese brands motherboards are not true x79, as they support dual-channel memory and probably no OC possible since not the best VRMS on those boards. But they could run 3930k stock.

IN 2020/21 test in 1440p & 4k...
Hey,
well, it's 9 years old platform/CPU, so not that many will get a similar system for 4k gaming. But point taken, I've could have tested this in 1440p as-well :)
So many bent CPU pins... that's why one of your memory slots didn't work....
Yep, true :)
That's unfortunate when you buy 2nd hand old motherboards. But even 3 channel RAM is good enough for gaming. Even though, spending even more time on those pins, this issue possibly can be fixed.
@@EpicGameTech Yeap! Maybe there is a soooo tiny bent in a pin that might not connecting proper with the CPU and that's why you cannot see the 4th slot. Epic X79 platform especially when you have a high end Mobo and you can overclock a 4960X or 1650V2 or 1680V2 8C - 16T ;)
I prefer the Z87 myself... :-)
z87 paired with i7-4770k or i7-4790k is also powerful and a lot cheaper in most cases than the x79 combo ;)
@@EpicGameTech Indeed, i've got a I7-4770K on my DZ87KLT-75K :-)
I am interested.
Thats is good ;)
Will 3930K bottleneck RTX3080?
Hey,
Well, I would not pair 3930k with 3080 for sure :)
Stock (no OC) 3930k was running quite well with gtx 1080. But its a max GPU I would go for. In case you OC it well, hmm maybe 1080 Ti (2070 super) at max. But mainly these GPUs would benefit from a faster/newer CPU :)
Your accent 😍
I'm glad you love it! :D
anybody want my build g1.assassin/16gb ram/d9dx cooler/this cpu for 300
