    After fighting with mine for a bit watching other videos, you explaining how this working was the best. Thank you so much. Gonna pull out my pile of wires and try again.

    Great video. Making one right now. Don't know if someone mention this but you DO NOT have to cut both wires. You can just make the hot wire shorter and you don't get the bow in the common wire.

    Nice tutorial. I made one ATO like this without a relay(Direct AC). For 2 week out of town worked like a charm. Tried for another 4 days trip and i flooded the aquarium with RO water.
    Never knew why stucked on, my salinity went to 1.022. Nothing sufferd from down salinity but i scrapped the idea of building a full time ATO for my nano. Now at least i know why didnt work. (I bought an optical sensor ATO already).

    Fantastic video! You can also use one of these for your skimmer as an overflow shut off. I use one for my ato and another for my skimmer. Keep up the good work!

    Very useful vid. You read my mind about putting it in a project box and about waterproofing. Pretty sure they sell project boxes with rubber seals/inserts, to keep the internals dry. Maybe put a female power connector on the housing of the project box to make cutting the power cable on the power supply unnecessary? Just plug the power supply into the project box's connector. Same idea for the float switch, make it connectible.
    Nice project.

    Great that was helpful, I got the same stuff like your but was following KING OF DIY vid which did not work for me because he got different relay and switch. Thanks, mate. Now i need to figure out how to make a mounting bracket for the floating switch.

  • @bearded-flipflop7122

    I made one running 2 float switches in series so one is flipped over so it makes contact when down the same as the low level making the circuit to run my 12v peristaltic pump (no relay required) to draw water up and into the tank this also has the redundancy that if the first float switch fails the high level will break the circuit. This has been running for 2.5 years now. And cost about £20 including pump, pipe and 12v power supply, box to mount the pump in and a spare pump just incase.

    • @eatsleepreef9565
      @eatsleepreef9565  5 років тому +1

      I did that and it failed after 2 weeks. I guess there are some switches that will work and some won’t. A relay is only $10 for a littl more security.

    Great video still... one problem! What about when the watter from the bucket runs out and the pump runs dry?
    Maibe you can make a video with two sensors, one sensor to start the pump and the second one to be placed into the buchet next to the pump in order to stop the circuit în there's no watter in the bucket! Thank you again!

    Hi.
    I do not use a relay, I cut the phase and I connect in series three level buoys. the first I turn the buoy to deactivate the filling if it gets stuck, below I put the normal one that is activated for the auto fill, and below another one to deactivate the auto fill if the tank is clogged up and Do not lower the water to the sump.
    All without a relay, only the buoys in series. A greeting.

    How do you add two to three float switches for redundancy

  • @joshuaaden4760
    @joshuaaden4760 4 роки тому

    I purchased everything that you used to a T, when the float switch is wired into the relay with the 12v power supply, it immediately cuts power to the relay regardless of the switches position.
    I decided to take a chance a hook the float switch directly into an extension cord and use a lamp, the lamp was constantly ON regardless of the float switch position.
    Am I safe to assume that I have a broken float switch?

  • @brettb2951

    All you need to do is buy a DC pump and you do not need the relay. Much much simpler to just use a DC pump. Mine been perfect for 2 years

    • @eatsleepreef9565
      @eatsleepreef9565  5 років тому

      Very aware of that so much so that I already shot the video of making a dc version ;) problem is not many people have DC pumps laying around, can be harder to find and a good price and that have a good head pressure for people that need to lift water 6-8 feet

    • @brettb2951
      @brettb2951 5 років тому

      @@eatsleepreef9565 true. I'll try to send you a link to the one I bought. It just plugs directly into the plug. No splicing needed. Also I think that's a great idea to sell some pre made for people who don't want to build it. Maybe you could build some with a backup switch if first one fails. And maybe a third float switch for the RO reservoir. I love your videos and trying to replicate your tank. So thanks for all the videos. Sorry for the AC/ DC mix up. I edited comment and fixed it.

    Don’t do this. If you can’t wake up and add water to your tank you probably just own a tank and don’t really connect with it. There is no redundancy with this the first snail or salt creep gets stuck kiss your floors goodbye. I tried your method: then woke up at 2 am to my floor flooding and my SG dropping. Since then I’ve vowed to never own an ato ever again. Tunze or not. Nothing is safer than you just adding water every morning:

      You want reduncancy? Hook this bad boy up to an Amazon Smart plug, sync it to the Kasa App, set it to run no longer than 1 minute. I have my smart plug also scheduled to run every 12ish hours. Since thats about half an inch of water loss for my tank and will fill up where i need it to isnt any longer than 1 minute. If it gets stuck in the on position, itll NEVER overfill my tank. The 1 minute timer will kill the pump before that ever happens and ill never have to chase salinity. I have a Ring Camera sitting overtop of my sump as well and i check on it daily (spend $5k on a setup and you bet your ass ill be looking at it multiple times a day) and i can see if everything is fine or if i need to manually add water or if my bucket is dry.
