This is what we are missing in todays society. Look at this sense of community. No one in this village knows what it’s like to feel alone. This is the way we were meant to live
You’ll hardly feel alone if you live in Indonesia… Too crowded lol. Anyway, most of rural areas in Indonesia are like this. Strong community, trusting people, they’re very nice and welcoming to strangers.
So true. Whatever happened to us in America? Who alienated us, the corporations and uber-rich for their own benefit? I think so, because dividing us weakens us.
I remember when the Homo Florience "hobbit" was found and the front page of the New Zealand Herald had a half page artist impression of an apeman. Even after the forensic measurements showed it had an ordinary human face - the misleading drawing of a half ape remained the first image you found if you googled them for over a year! The history of the evidence of human evolution is littered with false alarms, premature conclusions and even outright fraud. Such an interesting subject!
I've been into this subject since teachers hounded me for claiming that I could see a clear pattern of neanderthal in modern humans. This later made me guesstimate that people around the world, are probably a mixtures of 7-8 different human species, like putting 7-8 ingredients in a big boiling bowl and stur it carefully and not evenly
I felt weird watching scientists measure peoples skulls lol. I know there’s a history of them doing that and applying to let’s just say not the best actions
The measuremets are not bad per se. It is how you react to the data, that you measured. We should not ban measuring human body parts just because some humans abuse the data.
Skull measurements have been shown to be ineffective in determining ancestry. A documentary tried to prove through skull shapes at ancient burial sites that Australia aboriginals populated South America. Subsequent DNA analysis showed they were 100% American Native. The skull shapes were within the scope of natural variation.
Probably the shape of certain body parts can just give us rough information (e.g. what race does a human belong to) but not any detailed information (e.g. what ethnicity does a human belong to). But it is obvious that Asians and Africans have a lower nose than Europeans. This is just one example that can help determine what race a human belongs to. I understand that people feel strange seeing humans getting measured with those devices. On the other hand we never learned anything about those techniques as they were frowend upon after some time. So we cannot really judge how efficient they are. We can just guess. But you could forward the documentary that you mentioned before for us to learn more about that topic. @@Jessgitalong

Those villagers are definitely modern humans. Perhaps they might have H. floresiensis genes. I think for the sake of human genetic diversity, everyone's dna should be voluntarily collected and saved.
Lol people of the SEA region are the shortest people. I regularly see women below 5ft as adults. My cousin looks like a highschooler if you remove her smile lines and some wrinkles (she is 50). I am considered as on the taller side and I am only 5ft 6in (168cm). The average male is just 5ft 3in. There is nothing new on the fact that some population in the rural islands would be smaller than urban settlers.
This doesn't prove anything. Humans also lose inches off their height when they grow old. In some cases 2 to 4 inches. Malnourishment also causes populations to be short in stature.
Doesn’t living on an island produce exceptions in sizes? Large creatures shrink: Mammoths and Allosaurus grow only about 25% the mass they attain living on a continent. Small creatures exhibit gigantism: Rats, birds, land crabs, and insects grow to gigantic sizes. Humans are a tricky one. Being neither large or small. On some islands like Flores, they shrank, on others they grew larger. Maybe the people of Flores are not related to Homo Floresiensis at all. The conditions of living on an island caused them to grow slightly shorter than people on the mainland.
none of the people know here anything about the "hobbits" being in reference but I blame the person responsible for the title, the scientists were obviously looking for similar with homo florensiensis not actual mythical hobbits as portrayed in lord of the rings.
Measuring man that could be a 100 and noting he is short is just poor science. My mother is 104 has has lost a lot of height. One needs DNA to say much about a presence of a different species within he the DNA.
I don’t know, these mythical Orang Pendek creatures, the so-called missing link in the crazy evolution from primitive apes to humans, perhaps the answer isn’t Pygmy people, how about trying to look at human genes and understanding primordial dwarfism, and more importantly causes this gene malformation to happen. Pygmy people looks too big to be descendants of the mystery Orang Pendek. The way that the Orang Pendek are described, if they ever existed, the primordial dwarf seems more likely in size and structure in how they are described. Pygmy folks are more like modern humans and they have our big heads too, which could probably be a fatal blow for a female Orang Pendek to give birth to. Primordial dwarf seem to be in right proportions to the height.
No one in the scientific community think they are the missing link. The human family tree is a giant bush, with many branches and sub-branches. Floriensis is a distant cousin. It's very unlikely there was sapiens - floriensis mating in the same way sapiens mated with neanderthals and denisovans as well given the much larger difference (there is no evidence as of yet of tool use or the use of fire among floriensis).
No, this is something that we are missing, why are some people that have short bodies and then you get giantism where people are larger than average? There is no explanation for this phenomenon apart from scientific evidence but the fact remains that this genetic issue still persists and cannot be explained makes you at least think something is not right about our past
