I use a hole saw to cut a trigger grip, use some sandpaper to get the shape, once it feels good I use some 400 grit to smooth it out and then touch it up with some paint to somewhat seal things up, toss some tape in it, followed with some Howies Pro grip and it’s done!
sounds like you've got a pretty good process carved out for yourself there! I actually will have another video coming on how I tape everything up. But I've never felt the need to seal things up, interesting that you do!
At the end of the day its whatever works best for you. I cut trigger grips into all my sticks too but I go the easy route and notch out a little triangle near the base of the paddle. The hole saw or round hole technique is a little much for me and too much margin for error especially when you're talking about potentially ruining a couple hundred dollar stick. Takes me all of 5 minutes with a jigsaw and a speed square to measure, cut out my triangle, sand the edges, and have her taped up and ready to go. But again, that's what works for me. Personally I think you'd have to be a more crazy than normal goalie to not modify your paddle at all and its amazing to me even now that seemingly no companies have thought to incorporate this into the design of their sticks and have used the same squared off ends for decades. I mean I understand that different goalies like different shapes, but you would think by now they'd taper it at least a little bit. 🤷🏻♂️
Which curve do you prefer? I bought a stick with a wedge (Mrazek) curve and find it much easier to loft the puck. I’m no where near as talented as you with stick handling, so I need every advantage I can get.
I use the twist curve (Bishop) most often since it matches up with the P31 I used in Bauer while I was in college. I've also used the wedge curve before but the twist is home to me so I always fall back to it

I wonder if a jigsaw would be easier for this? Great vid though love the editing
If I had to guess, it might be easier. I unfortunately don't have access to one to try it out!
If I recall correctly... only do this to Foam Core sticks. I am not aware of this working well on Composites.
This is actually a composite stick and I find it works pretty well! It will definitely void a warranty though I'm sure
@@GoalCreaseGuardian Thats awesome! I would be too scared to try this with an expensive stick. Might try it on one of my retired composites first.
@@nates78 Go for it! Try it out and see what you think!
What size paddle do you buy?
These are 25" Warriors so they are a touch short, but I find it's put me in a comfortable position with my blocker recently
Did you use an original template for the shape or did you just experiment and tweak?
It was mostly experimentation. I started with a rough outline and would shave down a bit at a time until I reached the feeling that I wanted
How does this change the flex, if at all?
I haven't noticed a change in flex at all. The sticks tend to keep the same stiffness profile that they had before hand
Dude go with a jigsaws so much easier to control and your gonna get a better hole for your trigger.
I'll have to try that! I honestly don't think my dad has one down in his basement though, so I guess I know what he's getting for Father's Day lol
