If you add perlite to your containers, it'll give your plants better drainage and less susceptibility to root rot. I typically add about 20% to 30% to my soil mix.

I am so sorry I missed your message. I always add a little, but I will increase the amount I use. Thank you so much for the advice! ❤️🎄⛄️

Hi, your video has truly caught my interest in growing a thornless blackberry plant. Definitely going to look for the "Prime Arkansas Freedom" Blackberry cultivar. You may find it interesting to grow the "Cape Gooseberry (Physalis Peruviana) and/or the Ground Cherry (Physalis Pruinosa). They are both a type of berries that grow within a papery husk. I am growing both varieties from seed this year for the first time. I am hoping to include the Blackberry to my list of first time growing this year.

Hello, thank you for your kind words. I hope to grow more in the future as well. I ate some ground cherry’s for the first time last year. I loved them! I am trying to grow them this year for the first time. I believe they are Aunt May variety. I 🤔 that’s it, lol.
I have never tried Gooseberry. What do the Cape Gooseberries taste like?

I just found your channel. I loving it so far! Just a quick question: How big are the pots in which you have the blueberries is? Looks like 15 gallons? Thank you in advance :)

Aww thank you, you’re very kind. The pots are 20 gallons. You can get them at Home Depot or try Facebook market place. You can always find landscaping companies who sale their huge used tree pots.

Thank you for the great advice. This is my first year to have blackberries. I didn't get very many blooms yet. Do they bloom more as the season goes on?

Do they grow back annually back themselves?

Yes, I’ll post a picture on the community tab of my page so you can see what it looks like right now. She’s got to bring for this pot, so after two years, she’s grown out of her 20 gallon pot.

How did they turn out? I've been growing Navaho, Natchez and recently added Ponca. I just started trellising mine this year and taking a more active role in production. Before I always thought, more canes means more fruit. You've got a great channel! I'm in south Fort Worth so I've subbed and will be watching to see what fun things you've got going!

Howdy neighbor. They were doing much better before all this heat. I recently did a container video tour in July 2023 where I showed them. At the time they were loaded down with blackberries. Once the temperature cools down hopefully they’ll start doing better 🤞🏻

@@WheretheYoCalsGrow The birds got a fair amount of my crop this year. I think I got a couple 1 qt zip-top bags worth; but then again I've only got seven plants. I just put up my first trellis a few weeks ago. Before I was just letting 'em grow all willy-nilly! 😆

Thank you for that wonderful advice. Thankfully the variety of blackberry I have does not require a trellis and it does not have thorns.

There are many thornless varieties of blackberries and have been for over 20 years. The prime ark freedom is the first thornless primocane blackberry.

Thank you for that information. This is the first one I have ever seen at any nursery, and this is my first year to ever grow any variety of blackberries. When I researched its variety, it stated it was the first. The information was found on Arkansas University website which also stated it's where it was developed.
But again, thank you for that information it's good to learn more helpful information. As a community we should all be learning from each other ;). As I stated, this is the "first year" I've ever grown any type of blackberry. As I move forward in my journey with growing blackberries, I will keep my eye out for other varieties.

@@WheretheYoCalsGrow I am very familiar with the work by Dr Clark at U of Ark on blackberries. If you read closely any description of the plants you will see the prime ark freedom was the first PRIMOCANE blackberry variety that was thornless, not just thornless. The other varieties that were thornless are floricane. Thornless varieties developed at U of Ark include Apache, Arapaho, Chester, Freedom, Natchez, Navajo, Ouachita, Ponca, Traveler. Other thornless include Baby Cakes, Chester, Columbia Giant & Triple Crown. Good luck with your blackberries.

Great video, I also have just started growing blackberry plants at home. I just did a video on propagating more blackberry plants by tip layering. Check it out. It is an easy and simple way to get free plants. Mine are also thornless and I made 9 new plants from this method. Just subscribed. Also I like the berry series.
