In this segment from the Wilson Combat Channel, host Massad Ayoob discusses the crucial role of high-capacity magazines in modern firearm defense, emphasizing the changing landscape of criminal activities. Highlighting the need for increased ammunition capacity in the face of coordinated attacks and evolving threats, Ayoob introduces an 18-round Wilson magazine as an example. The discussion takes a poignant turn as the host expresses concerns about the impact of magazine restrictions on individuals with physical disabilities, questioning the compassion behind such limitations. Focusing on the challenges faced by wheelchair-bound and physically challenged individuals, Ayoob advocates for a paradigm shift in self-defense strategies.

10 years ago my concealed carry class instructor asked the class of about 40 people, "Why do you want to carry a firearm?" There was about a 3 second silence until someone in the back piped up, "Because I'm too old to run." Today I'm his age.

You are 100% correct! I'm disabled and walking with a cane. I have owned guns almost my whole life. With everything going on I got away for my sub-compact carry gun and switched to a Glock 19. I wanted more capacity. It's still compact, but with 15 round mags. I also carry 2 spare mags for a total of 45 rounds.

    • @stevenwagner9912
      @stevenwagner9912 6 місяців тому +8

I use a cane too. My hands have arthritis witch make mag swaps harder. The recoil caused me to go from a 1911 to a Taurus G3C. The extra rounds seem like a great idea to me because of more criminals working together.
Another reason I feel I need to be careful is because criminals can see I am in pain and could be a source of drugs. There have been people mugged outside of pharmacies because of the possibility that they have pain meds.
I can't run. I can't physically fight. Should I be forced to submit to criminals because of that? I know, I'll tell them robbing or assaulting me is a violation of the ADA. That'll show em.

Outstanding video Ma's. I am a disabled vet, and my condition limits me from the full freedom to protect my family and myself. And my other handicap is the laws in Massachusetts limiting my right to fully protect myself and family with a standard round magazine. Which with my weapon of choice is a gen 2 Glock 23 forty cal. 13 round magazine. I am limited because of the state that we reside in. Stupid, unfair, unsafe for me,and just plain wrong. I'm a vet, former military police, and town law enforcement officer, yet as my condition and age increases, my rights of protection diminish. Thanks again for the vidio.

I have arthritis in both hips and use a rollator, walker with wheels, to get around. For years, I have carried my Walther PPS M2 with an 8 round magazine when I go into the office. I carried it when I worked for UnitedHealth Care, Liberty Mutual Insurance, and now State Farm Insurance. Because of it's size, it's the perfect pocket pistol and I carry it in a sticky holster. I have had to endure BS safety training about the Federal Government's 'recommendation about run, hide, fight. Every office I've worked in had an open floor plan with literally 200 to 300 cubicle desk within eyesight. Most of these spaces required a badge to access the office. Glass doors, and glass windows around the doorframe. During one training, I asked the facilitator, a VP from HR, exactly how I was supposed to follow the run, hide portion of the recommended safety protocol. Her suggestion, 'Well, if you can't run walk as fast as you can. If you get tired and can't make it to safety, hide under a desk.' I chuckled and explained after walking 200 yards I needed to sit down on my walker because of the burning pain in my hips. I then told her, if I were to fall in the office, the paramedics would need to be called to help me up and make sure I hadn't fractured a hip, so getting down on the floor to hide under a desk was not an option. Her next suggestion was, 'Maybe you can sit on your walker and someone can push you to safety.' Sitting on the walker I would be facing backwards, and in all the chaos I can see me being pushed and knocked off my walker and ending up with a head injury. Corporate America is just too worried about guns in the workplace because everyone knows the bad guys never break the rules. I even asked why we needed the run, hide, fight policy because weapons were prohibited in the building. My supervisor was shocked, and I was given a written warning about my attitude. Funny thing was 2 coworkers told me don't worry I've got you covered if something goes down. They both let me know they carried at work as well.

Great points. I'm 62 and just two months ago I was working in the garage and fell off a ladder and broke my tibia. I'm using a walker now and next it will be crutches and then a cane. My knee will most likely have to be totally replaced. I would have to stand and fight.
Thank you sir. You're a jewel.

Mas, you really hit home when you mentioned flaring sciatica and physical limitations that would make someone who is otherwise very sharp in the mind, more limited physically. I used to move a lot faster than I do now. The standard cap magazine for a full size 9mm auto loader has always been somewhere around 17rds... These people are dense and all they are doing is pushing for and parroting these ideas so they can "seem" like they are smarter. The circles they run in hire armed security with the same magazines they are trying to eliminate.

I worked at a well known hospital chain in Fl. for ten years. As active shooter alerts became more frequent over the years in the hospital, management would tell us to "run, hide, or fight on our unit! Management didn't want to hear anyone questioning this policy. They told us that they had an "open campus" which made it difficult to secure from unwanted intruders! When I brought up the fact that the employees were very concerned for the safety of everyone in the building, they turned a deaf ear to this concern, but all of the administrators offices were outfitted for high security protection, leaving the rest of the hospital to fend for itself!

At 77, I’m simply not as physically fit as I was 20 or 40 years ago. However, even if I were in my mid-thirties, I’d entirely agree with this video’s premises. Why? Not only due to lawful personal defense, but also because armed felons will be stopped ONLY when they fear those of us who live responsibly and legally. The pain FACT is law enforcement is far from omnipresent - the great irony is the very politicians and other elitists who which to severely imitate firearms ownership also seek to reduce police funding - which means “We the People” are compelled both to defend innocents and to demonstrate to lawbreakers that crime simply does not pay. How can this be done without adequate defensive armaments?

Due to extensive injuries, I walk with a cane and haven't been able to 'run' in almost 40yrs. While I do own 13~15-shot cap pistols (BHP, CZ75), My most often carried pistols are a .45 cal 1911, or a 5-shot J-frame. Point or instinct shooting used to be encouraged in the gun rags in the 70s. Higher capacity mags have taken the place of training, practice, shot placement, etc. Stray bullets and innocent bystanders are a concern that is not often addressed.

I'd just add that the handicapped often have caregivers (I myself am one) who aren't going to leave their loved behind in such a situation and may be responsible for defending BOTH us. Politicians are often soulless sociopaths without the slightest bit of compassion towards victims of gun crimes. They know that an armed citizenry is the last bulwark against THEIR criminality.

    "Being able-bodied is temporary."
I had been an active person for many years, until a knee injury slowed me down. I cannot run. Period. It's darned hard to crouch to hide, unless I simply allow gravity to get me to the floor, and even then I have to consider whether I would land in a position that would allow me to slither to concealment or cover. Happily, my strong hand is still fairly strong, and my weak hand is fairly agile and strong.
I have too many people in my circle who lack the dexterity to manage even a Shield EZ, and some of those folks lack the ability or will to learn to use such and practice with it enough. Happily, they don't seem to face much likelihood of an invader, even as I recognize that many here will say that my people are not immune.
One person close to me had a .25ACP pistol (purchased about forty years ago), and after some discussion, decided that it was more of a danger to them than to any intruder. It's been sold. They had a shotgun, but their physical situation is such that the shotgun would be VERY hard for them to manage (it is more of a hunting piece than a home defense piece, and while I recognize that just about any firearm is better than no firearm in time of need, well...). They're almost better off with an Airsoft replica of a SigSauer P365 with the orange bits removed.
As someone who is likely far left of most of your readers' positions in a political sense, I firmly feel that every one of us has the right to defend ourselves. I am most assuredly NOT coming to take away your firearms, and I decry any efforts by politicians to do so.

While all that you say is true, I EDC a Commander 1911 in .45ACP. Eight in the mag, one up the pipe, and another 10 on my belt.
    USUALLY
Because I live on a horse ranch in very rural AZ and feel perfectly protected with this setup since I DON'T GO STUPID PLACES AT STUPID TIMES WITH STUPID PEOPLE.
My nightstnd pistol, however, is a WC EDC X9 with 18 rounds in the mag and one up. Though I'd more likely grab my M1A with 20 rounds or my AR 15 with 30.
I understand your point about the elderly or infirmed, I suppose. Though I do think mags with greater capacity tend to encourage a very dangerous "spray and pray" mentality.
This prevelent fascination with capacity is, IMHO, a weird fetish. For police and others who go looking for trouble, it makes sense. For me, 19 rounds of effective .45s in a pistol I am much more than competent with, is the best solution for my EDC.

    • @richardthomas6602

In Illinois, our joint committee on administrative rules just refused the emergency rule update that clarified a lot of the excessive vagueness and answered many of the questions we have about shotgun mag tube extensions, handgun mags with detachable floorplates not passing the "readily converted or restored" test, and things of that nature. The law is so abusively vague, overly broad, self contradictory, lacking clarifying or specifying language, and so ignorantly and poorly written, that anyone who knows anything about guns, is completely unsure of what in their collection they have to register or where they can use it.
So my "high capacity" mag is the five-round cylinder in my Smith & Wesson Model 69. If the state won't let me have enough sensible ammunition in my firearm to get the job done, and then won't even let me have a straight answer on what they will permit me to carry as an alternative, then I'm going to carry a round for which there is very little doubt about efficacy.
Illinois is the only place where you can switch from a modest 9mm carry gun to a .44 magnum, and say with a mostly straight face that you're doing so in order to comply with a public safety law.

Even after I go through physical therapy rehab I like me will have difficulty in performing a competent magazine reload. Although I live in a small town in Indiana I nonetheless have a threat of home invasion from bad guys. My largest capacity handgun is a Beretta 96 with 12 rounds. I do have an AR-15 with a capacity of 30 rounds but obviously that is a weapon that is more difficult to assess in an emergency

Also, to let you know that my new and highly rated orthopedic surgeon is soon to remove the arthritis from my long ago injured right hand so to not only ease/eliminate that pain but to greatly enable rehabilitation to improve hand strength.
My surgeon tells me it’s never too late to counter or slow down the effects of aging by exercise and weight training which can also help offset osteoporosis. This surgery is to unfuse the thumb base joint which was jammed at age 15 in a basketball game. I got tough by enduring the pain and am glad I finally found a good surgeon who knows how to fix this.

No criminal crosses into California, pulls over at the rest stop to read the gun laws, and exclaims "holy smokes my magazines hold too many rounds!". Further he doesn't pop a uturn into the previous state toss his mags in a ditch, and return to California to the nearest FFL, during business hours, to buy compliant magazines... All so that he can legally possess his firearm (to avoid a possible tack on charge) while smuggling drugs.
