    Pay closer attention on your second watch. Thor isn’t played for laughs. It’s more a statement on depression.
    This is how he’s dealing with it. Him still being worthy is a pretty big statement. Depression isn’t just a quick fix thing and I’m glad that they didn’t just “boom you’re thin again” him.

    I liked Thor because it makes sense why he came depressed because he failed and lost everything and took the blame. Also it was cool when he killed thanos. But thors mind is kinda messed up and his body too which kinda makes him at his most vulnerable state

    I wonder if we'll get some Endgame spin off comic about Steve returning the stones? Be interesting seeing Steve return the Soul Stone and being reunited with the Red Skull.

    Thor didn't just "mess up a little bit". He lost EVERYTHING and it was partly his fault that he lost everything. He out of all the characters in the MCU lost the most, and the fat Thor saga "humanized" him.

    I loved Thor in Endgame, mostly quz he reminded me of a ancient norse God, He reminded me a bit of Bor, Thors Grandfather which we saw a bit of in the begining of Thor 2. Also I know that as the Norse Gods grow older they become more powerful... Yeah, I loved it!

      Agreed he's been dragged to his lowest of lows they can't use anymore pathos they're has to be some humor used and there's actually drama here it's just more underlying here unlike in Infitny War where it's full on drama. That scene where he gets the armor he looked like Odin.

    I know a lot of people are commenting about Thor, but I liked what they did with his character. I agree that he wasn’t really funny, but to me it was him trying to prove himself as still mighty despite failing to defeat Thanos twice and letting it get to him. So when he called Mjolnir, it was more of an emotional moment because he realizes he is still worthy.
    Also I will gladly take the Fortnite scene because of Korg.

    I'll be honest, I didn't think anything of Cap using Mjolnir when Thor summoned it. Lol It dawned on me right when it slowly started moving in the battle with Thanos. Haha One of a few times when I legit lost it in a theatre.

    • @Lupin788
      @Lupin788 5 років тому +3

      I think the writers and directors masked the Cap/Mjolnir eventual link quite well. I kind of forgot Thor had brought 2013 Mjolnir back with him till he started dual-wielding it with Stormbreaker. I was thinking how cool that was and not about Cap using the hammer. Even when Thanos had Thor at his mercy, and the hammer started moving, there was still a thought that Thor was summoning it.

    Pretty much agree with everything, though I'm fine with what they did to Thor, in large part because it makes sense (just think of what happens to highschool sports stars who get run over by real life) and, more importantly, because Hemsworth commits to it and handles it really well. Hemsworth may not be Marvel's MVP, but he's by a long-shot Marvel's Most Improved Player and in a way that's pretty astonishing. Imagine if somebody had said to you in 2012 that when this series of movies "ended," Thor is the one we'd be carrying on with. Then, that'd have been met with sighs and groans; now, it's cool and even a little bit awesome. Go figure.
    Three other things:
    (1) Tony should've been found by Stallone's Ravagers, not Captain Marvel. She could have gone to pick them up, but he should have found them. Maybe that was the plan, but they couldn't get Stallone for the cameo time-wise, but it would've been sooo much better.
    (2) I'm glad they finally gave Frigga (Rene Russo) something to do and that scene is lovely, but I wanted them to do more with it. That is, I wanted two things to emerge from Frigga: (a) that she's not actually his mother, setting up the whole Gaea/Elder Gods sort of thing, but she loved him as her own son; and (b) that Odin did in fact go for the stones, which would explain why he's had so much contact with them over the centuries, but he stopped. Why did he stop? Easy: he went to Vormir and *refused* to make the sacrifice. Odin *walking away* from the power of the universe would've made so much sense and would have cleaned up so much-- about his pre-Hela to post-Hela turn, about his behaviour regarding the stones, about so much. They could have cleaned up the Odin mess so easily, but they didn't. It also would have tipped Thor to worry about what's happening on Vormir and given added dramatic weight to that.
    (3) I don't think people adequately appreciate how awesome it is that they got Robert Redford to come back-- in his last film before retiring, no less. If Hollywood has ever had its own Captain America, it was Robert Redford, and it's just so great to have him in the mix here unannounced. Let me say that again: they got Robert Redford, arguably the biggest movie icon of the past fifty years, to do a drive-by. Of the Marvel big-stars, he's the one I expected they'd never get back-- and they did. That's cool cool cool.

      Damn, you are hard core. I just saw chubby Thor as a person who was struggling with his God level over confidence. After end game he will never fail to be worthy of mjolnir. He has finally balanced his identity, or mostly, since he is gonna do some traveling, ie soul searching...

    • @drjwww
      @drjwww 5 років тому

      @@aprilk141 Not sure if I'm hardcore or not (I don't think so, but who am I to say?), but I have all kinds of ed-and-training in things like dramatics and editing, so I tend to look at a lot of movies with a story-editor's perspective. And, from that perspective, I've held that one of the biggest and most glaring problems the MCU has ever had was its Odin problem. So powerful, yet always so weak; so wise and all-seeing (supposedly), but always so clueless; alternating at will between Best Dad In The Universe and Off-The-Rails Angry Dad. Frigga, I thought, would have been a great means to clean up the Odin mess (and the contrast with Thanos would have been good), but the Gaea bit would also have helped clean up Odin's "no, you're stronger" bit from Ragnarok. But, like I said, it's just the story-editor's perspective. Had I been in the writers's room, I'd have argued vehemently for a few lines from Frigga to address all that. *shrug*

    You have very subjective complaints. That speaks well of the movie, I think.
    I loved the defeated thor. I think his debacle gives logical and emotional depth to the character. It makes him more human. To some extent, Thor is guilty of the death of half of the living beings in the universe, and that's only after losing his family and most of his friends.
    In fact, given the circumstances as a psychologist I would say that Thor is holding it really well.

    People don't understand depression and that's why they didn't like Thor in this movie, I didn't find him funny, it was tragic and sad, all the guilt he felt by failing and not killing Thanos at the end of Infinity War and how much it takes a tole on him to the point where he just drinks his problems away is an amazing arch but he finds out he's still worthy after he talks to his mum and he finally stops drinking. I loved Thor in this movie.

      Moonie iLLmatic Thor’s portrayal in Endgame reminded me of Spider-Man in Into The Spider-Verse which is probably my favorite interpretation of the Spider-Man character. Both characters start out having things go there way, saving the world multiple times pretty easily, falling in love, and then they lose close family members and their loved ones over time and slowly lose their passion to be heroes and cope with pain by eating/getting drunk. While I understand why people are upset with this interpretation and we didn’t get the badass in Infinity War, I found this take on Thor really interesting.

Steve's character arc payoff, didn't cry the first time when expecting to, Thor's character arc, being semi weirded out by Hulk's part, the musical cues for certain characters, noticing stuff a second time through, and tearing up more. I love this movie. 9.8/10 for me. The beginning was a little weird but I dug it the second time around. I was fine with Thor I laughed most of the time and I loved the Fortnite Joke, I was fine with it and then he summoned Both weapons and then I was sold. Tony was the best character in the movie. I thought Hulk was a little weird but after he met Thor I was sold on it. I loved Nat and Clint and I wished we got a bit more. I think the final battle could have been a tad better but still best and most epic finale ever. I'm fine with all the plot holes but I think some they could have addressed easily.

  • @themadtitan7603
    @themadtitan7603 5 років тому +2

    Been waiting for this review.
    Okay this is going to be a lengthy one: While this movie might not ve 100% perfect, almost no movie is it's the closest thing to being flawless. The movie was an epic and emotinal masterpeice, never have I felt this emotinal in a comicbook movie since Logan; nor have been this satisfied with a finale of a saga like I was here with Endgame, perfect wrap to 11 years and 22 movies of storytelling that I grew up with for all these years and sets up the next generation of characters and stories perfectly. I agree that I'd totally be fine if this was the last MCU movie.
    When I watched the movie and then you announced this video I kind of saw the complaints you mentioned coming and I do agree with some of them, for me it was the closest thing to perfection and not only the best MCU movie, but also it's in the top 3 best comicbook movies of all time my only major flaw with the movie is the handling of Thanos (the 2014 version he felt a bit two dimensional and I think they should've stuck with the far superior and more complex present-day Thanos, I really think killing him off at the beggining, despite adding to the shock factor and sadness and desperation of the situation, was a big mistake as we were left with this past version that is less layered and is more like Apocalypse from X-Men: Apocalypse) and the fact that Black Widow's death could have been more narrtively impactful (that's mainly fault of Marvel still not giving her a solo movie until now hence she never really got an arc) the other flaws are just small nitpicks and small logical inconsistencies that don't detract from any of my movie experinces. It was seriously the most perfect ending to any saga in my opinion. Me and my friend agreed that the Stark/Nebula scenes are some of the best scenes in the film and I disagree that Captain Marvel part was an du ex machine element. The performances were just amazing, Chris Evans and RDJ deliver their best performances (what they do with Cap makes me so happy as someone who considers him as the best MCU character) and the way their arcs wrap up here (with the movie ending with Cap getting his dance and Tony making the ultimate sacrfice) is very emotional and poetic and calls back to their journey in the MCU so far amazingly, it's the perfect conclusion to the story of these two MCU veterans; I'd defintely be behind RDJ getting a best actor nomination because I didn't get this emotional with a comicbook performance since Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in Logan; same goes for Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner, especially in the Vormir scenes, she really sold the depression she was going through and he sold the pain he was going through, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth's performances are also excellent; at first I didn't really like fat Thor but it's an arc that improves the more you think about it and rewatch it, the arc and the performance are actually brilliant because even though on the surface it seemed like it's all comedy, it's actually a coping mechanism the drama is there it's just more underlying here unlike Infinty War and if you focus you could see it, both through the performance and the writing he actually gets an arc in this one (him giving Asgard to Valkyrie is one of the most responsible things he did in the last few movies) and that scene with his mother was very heartwarming but sad at the same time. Paul Rudd was also very and I also loved the emotinal scene he gets with his daughter is very heartwarming which he pulls off fantistically. As for Proff Hulk I really liked this iteration and would like to see more of it. The 3rd act was the best final battle and hour in any movie ever period just every comicbook fan's dream it was pure fan-service, but the fan-service was earned and it came with heart and logic. As for the plot, I thought it was one of the best and most intense in the MCU and I actually disagree that the time travel should have been like Back to the Future becuase that would have been even more confusing and would've retoconned a bunch of MCU movies, the second act payed off many plot points in the MCU and gave resolution to many loose threads like Tony and his father.
    Oh and also the score is the best in the MCU, it's so beautiful, it gets me emotional just listening to it; kudos to Alan Selvestri for not only creating the score here, but one of the most iconic theme songs of recent memory with the Avengers theme. All in all the Russos and Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely directed and wrote the hell out of this movie, it's really an achivement and a feat what this team, Kevin Feige, and the entirety of Marvel did with Infinity War and Endgame and the entirety of the MCU and am so glad that I could say that I was part of this cenimatic experiment.

A woman, making a stand FOR THE MAN SHE LOVES, who KNOWS that HER MAN LOVES HER. She was there for *him* and for *their family,* not to make a big "girl power" statement, not to soapbox about feminine strength, but because of LOVE. Especially in this age where so many whiny voices are decrying men and manhood generally.

    I thought what made Infinity War better imo, was prolly the interaction between all group of heroes. The action was just simply better and more comic book like action, and infinity stones being used. I was hoping Thanos got the gauntlet during the final battle, to just use the stones for their powers and not just to simply snap his fingers... I will admit I cried a few times during this movie ... I’ve only seen it once, however my favorite characters are Tony Stark & Natasha Rominoff. When I had heard that RDJ got cast as Tony Stark I was surprised mainly due to his lifestyle being so chaotic at times ... I’ve been a fan of his for decades. My husband got all the comics so I had to really go through my memories of Tony Stark in the comics. If I get asked about my favorite movie I’ve been saying Ironman, now it’s Endgame and if the Russo’s don’t get the Oscar for best Director I will be unhappy with the Academy’s decision. I have already placed my pre-order on Amazon.

    I’m surprised and disappointed that you didn’t include Wanda Maximoff’s battle with Thanos in here.
    Also, Thor considers himself to be the strongest avenger. He took a giant risk in getting the stormbreaker. Thanos collected the final infinity stone and when all hope was lost, Thor came expected to save the day. He didn’t mess up a little.. to him, he ruined the entire world. Half of the entire world was wiped out. He felt defeated and fell into a depression. The little jokes and laughs he did weren’t meant to be necessarily funny, people cover up their sadness with fake smiles and fake laughter. His world is crushed. I think his change was extremely realistic. I feel bad for him.

    bhl are you going to make 'which comic book movie was the best in 2019 when the year is over. I really liked the style of your first three in that series and was a bit dissapointed in 2017 where you changed that style and in 2018 where there was no video at all

    Tbh every time Thor changes his look, I don’t like it at first 😂 then I warm up to it, but something about this version of Thor doesn’t click for me. I think his look and demeanor in Infinity War was perfect, and the beginning of this film was too. But his big Lebowski look was funny, but it overstayed it’s welcome. His beard makes him look chunky and not at all the towering Thor from Infinity War, it was too soon to change his look 😭

    What if during the final Battle while they're running at the outriders if it just said to be continued. And then 3 months later they just release a 12 min video of that battle

    I disagree, if you have lost everything you’d not just retain to your normal self after a little nudge, he is very human in character and his depression was extremely immersive to me. I really loved the direction they put him in because of his emotional impact.

    When I saw the first 3 trailers, I wasn’t that excited for endgame, but 12 trailers later and watching the movie, and just seeing the final battle..... I was fricking shocked how good the movie was

    Great vid. I probably preferred Infinity War to this just because I didn’t really like what they did with Thanos in Endgame, but it all kinda comes down to personal preference. You should review Detective Pikachu if you get the chance!

    If Tony Stark would have put wi-fi or bluetooth on the Iron Man Guantlet, Tony Stark could have done his snap remotely & he would have survived.

    Some of the comedy scenes make sense bc most of the movie is taking place 5 years later. After 5 years, not all ppl would still be constantly depressed. Some ppl would eventually move on and it would become normal life. So Thor being fat is kinda legit. Hulk being funny and acting like a celebrity would probably happen. First time seeing it, I thought it was a lil too much. But second time around I thought it fit well and made sense. But I tend to agree for an all time epic movie, seriousness makes it more of an all time great movie, and the corny jokes make it seem very Disney

    I’m trying to think if things that I really didn’t like or bothered me even a little bit but honestly I can’t find any.. maybe I’m biased but I’m sure if it was bad I would’ve hated it and expressed that but seriously to me it was perfect. Maybe some jokes went for a bit too long but I forgot about them immediately due to the awesomeness this movie was.. I didn’t mind Thor at all I thought it was interesting seeing him dealing with a traumatic experience and having panic attacks.. I wouldn’t have expected such thing and I love how unpredictable that was and how bold of a choice it was! And I cried for like 20 minuets straight (probably it was 5 minuets but it felt more lol)
