So awesome. Used to live right next to Chester when I was a kid before my parents moved to the south of France. I still consider it one of England's best hidden gems 😎
Ice cream seller..."you want a flake with the cornet ?" American Gal..."I don't know, do I ?" Ice cream seller..."All the other gals before did" American Gal... "So, it's a tradition, I'm on vacation to experience those"
I lived in Chester from August 1984 to January 1985 on a high school exchange program with Sister Cities. This was really cool to see and brought back a lot of good memories! Thanks! 🙏🏼👍🏼✌🏼
The ice cream with a flake is known as a 99, Cadburys produce shorter flakes just for that purpose. Incidentally, there is a little trick you can do when tossing a coin. When you catch it, pass your thumb across the coin and you should find the heads side feels smoother so you will know what it will show when you turn it over onto the back of your other hand.
It's really nice to American UA-camrs going to places other than London. Chester is my home town, and I love it. I'm glad you liked it. It's somewhat of a hidden gem it seems, as I've not seen any other vloggers who have been.
So pleased you enjoyed Chester, its a lovely city. I live about 15 miles away in Wrexham. Only recently subscribed to your channel but I'm loving your videos, keep up the great work!
If you get a chance, whilst reasonably close, check out Jodrell Bank. It’s about an hour’s drive from Chester. During the day the visitor centre is open, at night the radio telescopes are illuminated. I took my nieces when they were young. They paid no attention to it, they wanted to go feed ducks. Their mother told me that they didn’t stop talking about the big telescope (the Lovell telescope) when they got home.
There is a place called Baggington near Coventry and there is a roman fort with the only well preserved fighting ring in England. Don't worry there is no fighting involved anymore but there is a giant crossbow, and once we were told that it accidentally fired and created a large hole in someones roof across the road.
Yeah, castrum was Latin for a fort or military camp. It's how Chester got its name. Lots of traces of the Roman settlement still remain and that's pretty cool. You were lucky with the weather guys.
@soflo23 Thank you for saying that. It depends what sort of thing you are looking for, but Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester might be worth investigating too. I can personally recommend Glasgow and Edinburgh. Passed through Manchester a few months ago and the place had a really good feel to it. Please do enjoy your travels.
I think, when it comes to pleasing beauty... Nottingham was just gorgeous... And there's this little seaside (Irish) village, Moelfre… The most picturesque village I've ever seen... Reminded me of EVERY seaside village film I've ever seen, that was worth two cents... Pence for you on the Islands... I wish I could have spent a little more time in York, it looked interesting, but a little busy and crowded for me, when I'm trying to see sights... London is always crowded, but for me, after my first couple trips, it was all about the food... Indian and Chinese !!! To Die For !!!
My apologies, @Rosida Andriyana… I'm from the US... Not the UK... We revolted over many things, and maybe... Just maybe... One of them was the way "favorite" was spelled... :)
Unfortunately... Indian and Chinese food are just about as British as Fish & Chips... And in most cases, the Brits I know, are fonder of a good curry, than they are of the old staples, like blood pudding and watery eggs... And, it's the best of those two groups, that you'll find anywhere outside of India and China !!! @Rosida Andriyana
OMG! So glad to see that you guys visited Chester! Hope you had fun time and enjoyed our beloved 99. Could have shown you plenty of cool restaurants and bars.
Love this video. The two of you seem to have so much fun... and are so darn cute. We will be visiting Chester at the end of August 2019 so it was really nice to get a glimpse of where we will be traveling. Thanks for sharing.
I recommend a pub by the canal about a 10 minute walk from the city centre called Telford's Warehouse. Well worth the slight detour. Please do enjoy your visit.
City Roman walls, a large Roman Amphitheatre, the oldest racecourse, a 1000 year old Cathedral with medieval carvings, 700 year old Rows galleries to shop in, and the sun was shining
I knew you'd like Chester - so glad you visited... gotta love Alan too!!! And by the way, at 2:45 in did Ash call our previous monarch 'Hangry The Eighth'? Brilliant!
King Henry 8th began a new Church because he wanted to divorce his wife and separated from the Church of England to become a Protestant. - It's basically all we learn in History lessons (that and WW2)
Oh Dear! Henry VIII separated from the Roman Catholic Church, and founded the Protestant Church of England, so he could divorce his wife and marry again, looking to begat a male heir.
Love video guys.....love u visiting the historic places.....Stratford upon Avon Warwick Oxford Cambridge Durham bath. Keep up good work!!!😊 love u guys!
I’ve lived in this area for some years. It’s mostly unappreciated by its inhabitants. At one point in history Chester/Deva was considered to be the devoted capital of UK due to its distinct and useful location. It’s small but great. My favourite city.
When was Chester the capital? I've never heard of this and can find no record that it was so. Since England existed there have only been 3 capitals, Winchester, London and, briefly, Oxford. During Roman times it was Colchester, then Londinium. None of the Kingdoms that existed between the end of Roman rule and the formation of England had a capital in Chester and if they had, it wouldn't have been the capital of England. The UK itself has only had one capital, London, during it's entire existence.
No better place on earth to be, on Racing Days... OMG !!! The GORGEOUS women, all dressed up in their finest, strutting their stuff with all the race goers...
I'm not far from Chester. Don't go very often for it is a more expensive area. But the buildings are incredibly old and have been kept in good order. Well worth a visit for any tourist I think. It's only 25 to 30 miles from liverpool. Frodshem is close by where Gary Barlow from take that was born. There's also the scenic valleys of north Wales close by. It's a good area to stay and rent a car. Plenty of nice locations within 40 miles. Mount Snowdon isn't to far away either.
I used to share a house with a girl from Chester. We called her a welsh scouser because the accent is a mix of both. And because it really wound her up!
Henry’s Reformation was England’s Brexit from the Pan European Catholic Church, the liturgy did not really change very much, it was more like an independent Catholic Church with some Protestant add-ons. The Puritans tried to change that after the Civil War, but when that failed with the Restoration, the Puritans bogged off to the American Colonies.
I always said to my friends that Chester is massivle underrated and actually I think its much prettier and interesting than Bath (that everyone is so crazy about). I have been to both cities many times and somehow Chester just appeals more to me.
I think it's a good idea to go on a guided tour around towns and cities, you learn more than wandering around yourself (Henry VIII is the king Josh was trying to remember). Ashley has the right idea for flipping a coin (the slight pause made me laugh) :D
Just watched your Versailles Invader hunt video with Jay so I thought I'd pop on over to your channel to subscribe to you guys. Love the video style! Especially the coin flip aspect.

Funny enough, i used to live in the south of France before my parents moved to Chester 😂
We call an ice cream with a flake in it a "99".
Gone are the days when they actually cost 99p though 😭
