Haha, that brought up Memories, I grew up in Bennington, VT, which is just West of Harmon Hill, and in the early or mid 70's as part of the Green Mountain Club, I helped build the shelter that is just North of Route 9. We carried lumber up the hill on our shoulders or with two people on either end of longer pieces. Been ages since I was down there, I recognize some of the landmarks.
Looks like you are off to a strong start. I was never a fan of using shelters, but I see the convenience. Hope your knee feels better. Be safe. Best of luck.
Met a thru hiker who was hiking it for 2nd time. Told me she was going into Bennington, I reminded her about the steep rocky descent to Rte.9. She said: she doesn’t remember everything from the trail but she will never forget that descent. 🏃🏼
Stayed at Goddard in ‘93, I think Greylock is visible from that porch unless if it’s grown over, found out about a decade ago that Glastenbury is a basically uninhabited ghost town.
Yes, I was actually planning on mostly tent camping but realized how convenient and easy the shelters were. I think most ppl always carry their own tent or hammock because you never know if something will get in the way of you reaching or using a shelter, plus sometimes they’re spaced out weirdly
You’re right ! Camera NEVER captures the steepness! Love your videos ! Thank you !

That’s so cool! I think that’s the Melville Nauheim shelter, I remember passing it on my way to Goddard Shelter
@@hannahshikingnh LOL, I don't remember the name, but it wasn't very far off rt 9. Is there still a Firetower on top of Glastonbury MT?
@@VTSteve yes there is! Although it was closed off to people who wanted to climb it :(
Beautiful & thanks for sharing! What time of year were you on the trail?

Do you carry a tent if your knee doesn't allow you to get to a shelter?
