    I’ve been following along with Dusty for the last few months and have recently rewatched the J-hop video and I think it’s starting to sink in ….What made this all click is that I have recently noticed that I can do small “bump jumps”really good because the little bump at the lip is a visual and tactile timing device…. It also helps gets my front wheel up and then I push thru my feet until I feel that bump on my tire. After watching this latest video I see why, now I need to translate it to real jumps. Thanks for breaking it down, I can tell you really put a ton of thought into this.

    1000% nailed the critique of 'stand up to the jump.' It's a shame the 'stand up to the jump' video has so much traction but hopefully your vids start reaching people. Nice work

    You give the best MTB jump tutorials on YT! Following on IG as well. So many generic jump tutorials out there. I did watch the Loam Ranger video, and was using that technique, but I've been progressing more with your videos. I've been riding a few years now, and am in my 40's now, and try not to do too much crazy stuff, but it sure is fun sending jumps and drops. Keep it up!! 🤘🤘

    The rap was realy funny! I learned to jump better than before when The Loame Ranger posted his video 2 years ago, but I understand how I can take my jumping to the next level and safely now. It is wintertime here in Norway and I hate not to be able to practice right now. Thanks for your videos 🙂

    I like your debunking of standing up to the jump.

    Good to see a well explained breakdown of the problem. Most very good mtb-ers have the bike skills, but not the ability to analyse and communicate in a way that can be absorbed & understood by the learner. As a 60yo E-mtb rider who isn't good on jumps - I find you need to grasp the fundamentals- as just "sending it" carries bigger penalties for us old farts 😊

    I think the stand up 'technique' is simpler to understand for 90% of people and even easier to start practicing. I still believe it's useful, as beginners on jumps need to feel the air time and the standup makes it possible. (It certainly helped me).
    Now your examples and explanations absolutely hit the jackpot and there is no denying that jumping up the jump can lead to crash and is 'less cool', 'less air time', but (again to me) - it's easier, safer as a beginner jumper. I will, however, start using other technique where and when possible, since it really is so much different and better.
    Cheers for content and funny rap :)

    • @Theshredacademy
      @Theshredacademy  Місяць тому +4

      Thanks for the comment. However how can it be safer when it actually leads to more crashes. The jhop method leads no risk, might take alittle more learning but easier is not safer. And muscle memory will screw you once you want to progress to steeper and longer jumps. Be careful out there

    • @SergejGrabun
      @SergejGrabun Місяць тому +1

      @@Theshredacademy cannot wait for your video on how to do the steeper ones with the jhop. Pt3 maybe? :)
      To me jhop feels more scary as you need to initiate this 'move hip' backs move of the lip which is already scary (remember - talking about beginners). I speak about what works for me as a beginner, but will definitely take decisions based on your video.

      @DavidDartsch Місяць тому +2

      As someone who went OTB on a steep jump using the standup technique I say stick to mellow jumps if you are using it. A broken collarbone is no fun.

      @SergejGrabun Місяць тому

      I have zero problems getting a nice front wheel lift at the start of a j-hop, but struggle with the part where the hips move forward and into the bars. I feel off balance and sketchy doing it. Will keep trying. 👍👍

    I rode BMX as a kid and I didn’t realize until very recently that everyone didn’t all do the j-hop. I just thought j-hop was the norm. Same time I started hearing roadie/XC guys say you can’t bunny hop without clips. Left me so confused, but makes more sense that they try to 2-wheel hop and pull with the feet.

    Bro if coaching MTB doesn’t pan out you always got the rap game…that was sick….and, in regards to the “stand up to the jump” technique, it didn’t work much for me. My timing was off (still is) and I would just stand instead of keeping compression throughout the full lip. Still struggling with this but you keep teaching, we keep watching and learning. See you around MK. Cheers.

    I’d be curious what you think of April ride mtb, video how to jump. They teach jumping up as well but somehow keep rear tire compressed through the whole ramp. Be cool to see you break that down as well.

    • @Theshredacademy

      @@RaymondLavoie-i9i I just looked and the only one I saw was from 2 years ago. Hmmmm 3 ways to jump, the title made me cringe. I mean sure, you cans scrub, straight air, boost. But I’m sure that’s not what it’s about. With all the really bad info on UA-cam made by the Covid Mtbr boom I try to stay away for my sanity’s sake 😂. But I’ll give it a try one day when I’m feeling frisky. Cheers thanks for watching man

    Still trying to work out how a dirty great branch leapt off the side of the track in between my rear tyre and frame just before I hit the jump.

    Your aproach is correct, but as two wheel jumper I must say, you are not using the two wheel jump correctly :D
    When I try the "correct" way how to jump its much more uncontroll because I'm not use to jump that way.
    Also I don't like hights and steep jumps two wheel just didn't send you to the moon cause you are ignoring top of the take off.
