      Funnily enough, I’ve been keeping a list of survivors to determine which if any I could write about in fanfics. (The following is a list of other survivors not mentioned that includes former or fallen Jedi, Jedi not killed by Order 66 upon first execution, or Jedi alive during Order 66 but whose fates are unknown.)

    I do like the idea that Yoda was telling Luke that he was one of the last traditionally trained Jedi (far as possible) and currently practicing. Legends and Canon go to good lengths mentioning that survivors need to shed their jedi-ness to survive the new galaxy (see Cal and Dark Times comics). So many jedi simply dropped their practice or even turned to the dark (very common now). So I can still see Yoda telling Luke he is one of the last as still holding true.

      I'm reminded of KotOR II and how the real Lost Jedi were 60% of the friends we made along the way. It's basically the same situation where Jedi go into hiding and let go being a Jedi until the storm has passed instead of self-destructing foolishly because that's what they are called to do.

      True, but it's not about whether or not the specific letter of Yoda's word is contradicted or not, it's about what you're supposed to believe is at stake when watching _Empire_ and _Jedi._ It's a narrative/thematic thing, not an anti-plot-hole thing.
      Don't get me wrong, I don't think an IP holder is artistically obligated to prevent a whole bunch of ideas different authors had for books, games and roleplays just to preserve the original implications of the prime work. But I don't think we should pretend there isn't a conflict in the first place, either.

    I think the idea of survivors adapting to new conditions and surviving via different methods really makes this interesting in a sense of just how do a people/order adapt when they no longer are affiliated with a position of power and are hunted. I did my masters thesis on emigre communities to Canada and its amazing how these communities adapted, changed and thrived in spite of their situation in a new environment despite their realties. I think it would be more interesting to see different Jedi methods of adapting to the new reality that aren't necessarily an adventurer or rebel etc. Like Eeth-Koth becoming a priest and having a family in canon, to the Inquisitors, Cal Kestis, Jax Pavan becoming a Private Eye etc its an fascinating era.

    Honestly, I don't mind that some of the Jedi survived. Letting go of being the galactic police and instead doing what you can on the local level until the Order can be restored is a pretty Jedi thing to do (Fallen Order pretty much showcases why). It looks odd though that even afterwards they just stayed hidden. Legends has the excuse that nobody really knew for sure and so Timothy Zahn and Kevin J. Anderson can be excused for taking Yoda a bit too literally and assuming there weren't any, but Disney had the benefit of hindsight and shouldn't have repeated that mistake.

    I like survivors that join Luke's Order, and don't like those that aimlessly wander about not caring about rebuilding the galaxy after the Empire's defeat. The problem with canon is that they blew up Luke's Order in its first appearance just to rehash the status quo of A New Hope, which creates a giant problem where survivors have nowhere to go anymore. The setting itself was setup for failure with that decision, not for supporting any kind of "expanded" content.

      @RoyalFusilier 8 місяців тому +9

      It's old hat to complain about Disney on a Legends video, but I sincerely feel like one of the greatest sins of the Sequel Trilogy was the categorical refusal to worldbuild. Even if the movies had been really good, that refusal would have meant they left basically nothing behind for other creatives and fans.
      Whereas no matter what someone thinks about the Prequels, just like the OT, they left behind an incredibly rich world where countless other stories could be and were told. I love them, but someone could genuinely hate Episodes 1 through 3, and still get to enjoy things like the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries, or Republic Commando.
      I mean even Disney themselves essentially confess this when they make at least as much supplementary material set before or during the movies as after them. Even things I will praise them for such as the Andorverse are the same story.

    • @Chris-bv4ko
      @Chris-bv4ko Місяць тому

      I agree. Nothing in ahsoka or Mando or anything set in that period in canon even matters because anyone who joined Luke's order presumably died when Kylo Ren fell to the dark side. Disney has made a lot of extremely poor decisions with star wars but killing off Luke's new jedi order before we could even see it ranks as one of their worst.

    I made it till the end of the video. I very much enjoyed it. Thank you for all that hard work. Back in the late 90s when the Force Unleashed and all the action figures with talking chips was a thing, I pretended that Dash Rendar was a Survivor hiding as a smuggler and bounty hunter in order to find more survivor's and get them to safety. I made several stop motion movies AR the time using the action figures released at the time. Each one was about 20 min long and would take me about a month to make. I happened opon a Sony Video Editor Controller, Two Bata Max players made for it as well as a sound integration editor board. Adding in my Korg Synthesizer and an early digital sound recorder I could make my own music, sound effects, as well as alter my voice to sound like the characters as long as my initial impression was close to original. I was very happy how they turned out. I had Dash find and save 4 former Jedi over 6 short films 🎥 🎞 🎦 🎬 📽 👌. My X wife threw the tapes out in the trash 6 years ago 🤨 .

    This is kinda why I wish the Jedi Order that Luke had been trying to form hadn't been completely wiped out. I'd have loved to have seen some new Jedi in the Sequel era. I once counted 188, though I seem to have lost the file.
    Sorted by rank, the vast majority were Padawans or Initiates (in the latter case, I guess they-though technically members of the Jedi Order-can't be said to really have ever been "Jedi", but should be described as "children of the Jedi", per Hambly retconned). Most unconfirmed cases were retconned into Padawans or Initiates down the line in some source or other.
    I counted something like two or three confirmed Jedi Masters alive past Yoda, one of whom was Qu Rahn, who died immediately afterwards. So, at least in Legends, the Purge was, despite grumblings, a very thorough job.

Characters like Cal Kestis and Caleb Dume only survived due to their masters sacrifice and the bits and pieces of knowledge and training available to them. The Galaxy is a big place and the Jedi have to have significant numbers to cover many of the places given all the brushfire events that seem to be happening all the time.
    Its not hard to realize there where a good number of survivors of Order 66. Why you think the Empire spent like the first 5 years after their formation taking out Separatist Remnants and Vader being thrown here and there tracking down surviving Jedi that didn't do the smart thing and hid themselves into absurdity?
    Taking down any from of organization is never total, there are always survivors. The bigger the group the more survivors there are bound to be.

      @mrzirak792 no, that can't be right. The force has 2 sides, light and dark. The dark is only a issue when there is no balance. The dark is not a cancer to the force any more than the light nc the force is both. It's only a issue when either side has to much power, then the force is out of balance.
      I don't think numbers actually matter. You could have 1 Jedi as powerfull as 10 sith , or 1 of each but equal power. The struggle is to bring the force back into balance. Anikan was said to do that. He did bc there was way more light than dark.
      And when the dark takes to much power, the light will rise up. The empire was to much, in time the force was out of balance again. Luke then rose up to defeat the empire, bringing it back into balance.
      It's the struggle to keep it in balance that makes the story great. It would not be as good if the struggle didn't exist.

      In Legends about 90 Jedi survived the Jedi Purge with about 110 of the other order 66 survivors later being killed during the 19 + years of the purge. Of those 90 survivors of the purge many of them turned to the dark side and joined the empire while many others let go of their past. Of those survivors who remained many of them such as Kkrukh and Tra Sha later joined Luke Skywalkers new Jedi Order. In Star Wars canon possibly as many as 45 Jedi survived well past the Jedi Purge even post Return Of The Jedi. This means that in total 135 Jedi survived the Jedi Purge both in legends and in canon which is still just 1 percent of the Jedi Order meaning that the empire was almost completely successful in wiping out the Jedi killing 99% of Jedi either during order 66 or during the Jedi Purge.

    It’s known that several hundred Jedi escaped or survived order 66. Now at most that’s prob around 400. Which means order 66 had a 96% success rate which is excellent. However baby’s on the internet can’t do math. So I’ll help u out. In the months that followed the purge, Jedi were hunted relentlessly. Just by reading the purge comics and the dark times, as well as reading some legends books. I found 70 plus Jedi being still alive by the time of just a few months after order 66. Many of them either were turned into dark side adepts or killed. In fact in 18bby Inquisitorius alone already had dozens of members. The empire prob killed or captured a good 60 to 70 percent of Jedi just in the first 4-8 months of the empire existing. So it’s not that ridiculous. I recon by Jedi survivor there were less then 100 Jedi left that were on the loose and not killed or captured. By ep 6 a few dozen.

    I fully understand Lucas not having a long-term vision of Star Wars when creating and releasing a New Hope. He had no clue how massive it would become and grow. But you'd think after half a century, they would've learned that killing off swathes of people or characters, would put them in a bind. Like killing off Boba Fett. It was a surprise how a guy with minimal screen time and lines, became so popular, and through some crafty writing in the expanded universe, he was able to reappear. Same with a favorite like Maul. They decided to wipe out the entire Jedi Order, then find themselves without material or how to explain certain things, so they've quietly retconned or tweaked the event. Just stop murdering off characters. You'll have continuity and subjects to work with.

      1. The vast majority of the survivors, especially ones who live until Luke is active, are actually from Legends and not Canon. Canon has tended to kill off most of its Survivors before Yavin. Legends has many of them join Luke's order at some indeterminate point, and his order is even run by some of them after his death (characters who weren't around in any of the stories of him building the order, like K'kruhk and Tr'a Saa)
      2. I don't know where you're getting the idea that Aayla Secura survived. She didn't. The twi'lek in the thumbnail is not her, it's a different (Legends) character.
      3. In Book of Boba Fett we see Ahsoka with Luke on Ossus, so yes actually, she was in contact with him.
      4. I have no idea who you're referring to with a red skinned woman being shot down. I think you're conflating both Plo Koon and Shaak Ti, both of whom die in Legends and Canon, but in Legends Shaak Ti actually lives until after Luke is active.

Aside from that, you got to keep in mind how big a galaxy is. The idea that Luke is literally the last Jedi alive is rather unbelievable when you start thinking scale. How many are just soo off the grid right now they don't even know there's even been a rebellion, much less another Jedi hero kicking as? How many don't think Luke Skywalker is really a Jedi considering he's a Skywalker, meaning he might be an apprentice to Vader? How many survivors looked at the Jedi Order and think there's no point in brining back the Jedi given how they turned out?
