Man, this is exactly how I want to play the game, but I cannot even fathom building a city like this. I try and cant get close. I really appreciate these videos so I can see what I wish I could do!
Not a bad idea! Let me think of how to show that! I might need to let it sim a bit before doing that. A lot of what we did in this one won't really reflect until the next one (transit ridership, traffic, garbage, etc)
For #1, I propose Sisu Way as a nod to the Finnish heritage of the UP. For #2 a very silly name I thought was Flyby, because anyone going from the airport to Bend will fly into the region then pass by the area.
What would be amazing to see is some sort of DOT or public works depot where they keep old or stockpiled vehicles and equipment. This would really help add to the progressive storyline of the full introduction of the DOT and public roadworks system and repairs.
I absolutely LOVE your storytelling with these series and one of the main reasons I stick with your channel. I feel like I'm a part of the communities you make and become really invested in the people you write about as a result.
Neat! May I suggest reshaping the pond to make room for a dedicated Bus Station? That way you can run dedicated bus lines connecting the shopping center to other communities and outside connections to bring in more customers. Excellent work like always, Phil.
The railroad commission in every state would never allow a double disconnect without having a temporary bridge out in place. They have more power over their rails than most governments do
Nice expansion there CPP! Smooth terrain work... for new bridges... which coincidentally is an area near me's name: Newbridge. Although something like Johnsonville could make the running I guess. You've also got me pondering over an MBTA custom bus... maybe.
18:49 - The pinnacle of beauty. A parking lot. What a masterpiece! 🤣 I don't care if they can be an eye-sore. I don't care if they signify the uprising of "suburban hellscape," parking lots are fun. 😅 And the Road Builder mod is certainly up there among the greatest mods ever to exist.
YES! I have been developing some waterfront retail area and haven't been totally happy yet with the results. Can't wait to see your always amazing tips. Also, your merch store needs a complete range of products labelled "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good" in big letters, and then in small letters, "unlike me..." I need it too!
I think it also makes sense to add a kids play area near the shopping center. Just so if a family comes to shopping with their kids and the kids are bored, they can chill in the play area until their parents finish shopping
I believe a big box store/shopping center would request for regular police/fire patrols so a small PD & Fire Station near the new neighborhood would make sense. I see fire trucks and police cars sit in front of my local shopping center every day
LOL, Hilarious that you put Staff Parking right up next to the Strip Mall! That would never happen. That said, this should be named something like Linden Park Mall, or Magnolia Hills Shopping Center.
I feel Like the box store would want the city to handle the retention Pond so that they wouldn't have to pay maintain it plus if it was a city park that's just another draw to the area lol.
Finally caught up with MC lol. Much has happened indeed! For Needs Name #1: Padd's Foot (because it's at the foot of the Padd lol). Plus it's a sneaky reference to Sirius Black. For Needs Name #2: I support @jarlbreadmaker's sugggestion for using the name Sisu Way but I think Sisu Way would be appropriate for this neighborhood, since given that it's between some highways, the airport and the shopping center, some sisu may be necessary to live there XD. Or you can just name it Sisuville too =) Or because it's encircled (the word in Finnish for an encirclement or a pocket is Motti, used to great effect during their wars with the Soviet Union), we can call it Sisu Motti or Sisun Motti (sounds italian too, inadvertently)
I always enjoy watching your videos, and love the city you're building here. I do wonder, though, at your eagerness to eliminate the old highway right of way and similar things when you put in new infrastructure. In many cases, these old roads would not be wiped away. They'd remain as local roads, or even abandoned properties that become pathways. This sort of pieces of history are a big part of our cities' character.
I think you make a very, very good point here. I think I probably should have saved that bridge as a pedestrian bridge at a minimum. I'll try to be a bit more thoughtful about that in the coming videos, especially since we're going to be diving into redevelopment a lot coming up.
Yes I have but only small buildings. I don't remember where it was, but I vividly remember a place with some whole in the wall take away restaurants under a highway
I thought about that. When I was in AZ I was amazed to see the number of highways with roundabouts. Hadn't gone from highway speed to roundabouts before... also didn't love it tbh.
As a resident of [Needs Name 2] im really tired of changing the bus at Switchon after I stopped by to visit my friend on the other side of town. Ugh.. Also my work buddy is really angry about the bus routing. Hes willing to do more by public transit, but when he wants to shop at Spds the detour through [Needs Name 2] just costs to much time. Why the buses wont go first to our shopping centre and then to our communtiy? Only my burned taxdollars know..
How about bridgeview for need name 2 as it’s near the bridges and can see the suspension bridge in the distance, and personally think the parclo is still overdone and should be smaller, maybe a two level roundabout?
Nope. The pond should be cleaning the runoff from the gas stations. Further, the gas stations should be sealed appropriately so as to prevent leakage. That's under ideal conditions, though... For sure have worked on sites with them though.
Hi Phil, love the video as always ❤ it feels lately like the music swells super loud in sections where you dont talk, is that on purpose? Its a bit overbearing imo 😅
@@CityPlannerPlays i think you should start building the way it’s good for the build environment and not how it actually is near Madison, Wisconsin. Ohh. Maybe a new series for an ideal city like verde beach.

12:15 not sure if it's a mod or base tool. When you're shifting terrain it's already telling you the height differences without actually having to move the dirt. Once you set your height the tool is displaying the difference between the set height and where your cursor is currently

New Magnolia County video with Mulligans on top of Mulligans?!? Count me in!!
Yea I don't think the anchor store is gonna be worried about motels in front when there's a literal tornado behind it lol
Hahaha, good point!
God damn that highway interchange with the Titanic clip got me good.

Honestly I'd love to have a 1 min or so segment at the end of the video going over the numbers that changed since the last episode....

"No. It's Respect the Topography hoodie. But thanks for noticing!"
Phil... you've become extremely comfortable with imminent domain. also talking about plows.... they're salt driven machines
You think so? I only used it on one home in this episode. Rights of way are considered vacations and not as controversial (even if they are unlikely).

Ooo I think No name 1 should be called "The Banks" and No name 2 should be "Linden Village" or something suburby like that
I suggest for Needs Name 1: "Little Paradise Banks"
2: "Paradise Crescent"
I’ve heard some rumors that residents from other cities has started jokefully calling Magnolia County for Mulligan County
I smell a highway mulligan in the future

Needs a Name 2 should be Sellwood. Saying it’s near a market and people are selling stuff…
it hurts to not see dedicated lefts on that arterial
out of curiosity has anyone ever actually seen a road go over a building?
Yes I have but only small buildings. I don't remember where it was, but I vividly remember a place with some whole in the wall take away restaurants under a highway
There's a few in the north east. I have only really seen it with warehouses and things like that tho
Generally warehouses, parking lots, and non-combustable industrial (in my area anyway).
Add some mid dende bulding small like 5 to 7 story max
10:29 I think you should keep it simple and place a roundabout.
I thought about that. When I was in AZ I was amazed to see the number of highways with roundabouts. Hadn't gone from highway speed to roundabouts before... also didn't love it tbh.

Is there no safety concerns building a retention pond so close to a gas station?
Nope. The pond should be cleaning the runoff from the gas stations. Further, the gas stations should be sealed appropriately so as to prevent leakage. That's under ideal conditions, though...
