It would be so much easier to farm and make star metal. the only advantage is that you have the option of using different materials depending on what you have available,but you are using way too much special resources. it would be better to convert taning agent or sandpaper to sandflux and make star metal bars the normal way. Iron is super simple to farm
until the recent patch skyrocketing remining mat drop amount. It was actually more cost effective to make a starmetal item out of iron and salvage for the starmetal than spending all the flux to refine steel then refine starmetal. Not to mention by just using iron you end up saving iron over-all. And if all you do is gather the low level mats to then get starmetal ingots you come out with a nice profit from selling the ingots or turning them into tools and selling those. That said today I came to the realization that with such a low player limit the value of selling things like tools will run dry SUPER fast. I mean think about it you only really need one tool due to the repair system so unless you just want a tool with better perks you are not likely to buy another. So realistically most servers only have about 2-3k players that will decide to buy tools rather than craft them and of those probably a few hundred will get them through company crafters or friends that just make them gear. Now if the game becomes super successful this won't be a problem but if it remains roughly where it is now...yeah grim future for tool crafting.
This has to be fixed because then what is the point in getting anything besides Iron? It makes everything else you mine seem useless. Starmetal weapons should only be craftable with starmetal, other what is the point in mining starmetal?
You get higher level with starmetal ingots which results in a higher gathering speed. Starmetal ingots ain't even that difficult to get either and this method will lose you money.

My point is, you should not be able to non iron gear with Iron. Then later salvage it to get starmetal that was never used to craft it in the first place. Cost or no cost, that is a bad design.
I dont know what the prices are on your server but on mine, Iron is selling for 2.5 per ingot and you can buy tons of starmetal ore in BW for .07 each. I just filled my inventory yesterday by selling iron in everfall and then buying starmetal in Brightwood and I still made money
@@SilvenVids Do the math, on my server I can sell 6 iron ingots for a total of 15 gold coins. Starmetal ore is selling for .07 each so I can sell 6 iron ingots and buy 214 starmetal ore. also in your example you are spending 5 iron ingots to get 1 to 4 starmetal ingots but you are also spending the other two components (wood and leather). I dont know what prices are on your server but on Heliopolis, my way earns more gold/starmetal.
@@JMacify this method isnt really about earning money dude its more about leveling up engeneering incredibly fast since you dont need to use starmetal to make the spears just iron.
Reported it ages ago, they didn't fix it. It doesn't provide that much advantage (you still lose money) it's just good for engineering as you lose less per xp.
Method for losing money. Starmetal is actually more abundant than iron and cheaper.
Agreed, starmetal is about 0.05 but iron is 0.30 in my server

Starmetal ore is worthless, Starmetal Ingots are incredibly valuable and require 6 iron ingots per bar to make.
