The different colors of the nest come from the different wood they chew up to make the paper. They also chew siding, decks, lawn furniture, etc. and the colors can be quite interesting. Pro tip: Don't even think of trying this with bald-faced hornets in 'Merica. They can read your mind and will preemptively attack you in your sleep to prevent it.

Even for smaller species that is a small-to medium nest. You need to see a nest at it's peak and when it has good access to nourishment aswell as protection of the elements. They can turn so damn big...

Please don't try to make this type of nest into anything. The hornets sting as many times as they like -not like bees. Don't think freezing, that means hibernation. Why not try to recreate with correct paper layers maybe they have woodear mushroom pictures you could layer. Hornets nest is deadly

And/or placing the sealed bag in a closed car during the hot weather for a couple of days. They don't live very long. Your thoughts?
