I moved to Idaho as a dependent in an Air Force family in 1970. My participation in Boy Scouts of America fostered an interest in conservation. I went to college at BSU with a major in Biology and in 1977 got hired to help monitor the catch of salmon at a check station at Banner Summit for a month. This was the first time there had been enough salmon over Ice Harbor Dam to support a season in a while. I finished that summer helping study the fishery below Anderson Ranch Dam which was fly fishing (single barb less hook only). I learned to fly fish and tie flies there. The following summer I was hired for a one year long stint that lasted 18 months helping on a fishery project in eastern Idaho. I had two temporary appointments with the Forest Service, one fishery related and the other dealing with tree insect ecology. All priceless memories.
