  • Presenting the unboxing, setup, review and my first impressions on the Mars Hydro 120x60 cm / 4x2 feet grow tent.
Winter is not a great time for tropical plants (bonsai included) if you live in a temperate climate and have to keep them indoor. The limited amount of light and reduced light levels are not sufficient for most house plants. One solution for this is to provide artificial light, and a grow tent is the perfect place to keep your plants in winter.
Mars Hydro offered to sponsor the channel with a grow tent and a nice grow light to go with it to keep my bonsai happy during the winter months. They sent me a 120x60x180 cm grow tent which is equivalent to 4'x2'x6' or 48''x24''x70''. So in this video I start by unboxing the grow tent and then do a comprehensive setup and assembly guide. Then I do a review of the Mars Hydro grow tent features and finish up by telling you my honest first impressions on aspects such as size, practicality, inside temperature and light leaks.
The promised video covering the Mars Hydro SP3000 grow light is available here: • Mars Hydro SP3000 - Ex... .
I'm thinking of doing a follow-up video after using the bonsai grow tent for a while so let me know if this is something you would like to see and if there are any particular aspects you would like to see covered.

A nice setup for winter, your trees will love it!

I think they're liking it already. 😊 We've been having a very gloomy winter so far and even trees located on a south facing window are getting very little light.

Nice setup for all you ppl that have tropical trees or a house but im houseless living off grid and only have outside trees but nice to see how you overwinter your plants

Thanks Anders! I hope you're ok and that not having a house is only temporary or that it was by choice and not because of unfortunate circumstances.
I can't explain why but I seem to be attracted to tropical species more even if I also like indigenous ones. What tree species do you grow?

Well done Stefan, that grow tent will really accelerate all your tropicals over winter! 🌳👍🏻

@@OddBonsai haha that's a good point. Also when you have a lot of leaves pushing together there's a high chance of cross-infection if any of your trees have mealy bugs or scale, which seem to thrive in warm humid conditions. I have eradicated the mealy bugs but I have never been able to fully get rid of scale, they keep coming back on two of my indoor species (Sageretia and Carmona). always a couple of months after I think I've completely removed them. I probably need to use Neem oil a bit more iften to prevent their resurgence....

Never thought about this potential problem. I think I've been lucky until now. I only found scale insects on an olive tree once. Thanks for pointing this out. 👍 I'll keep a close eye on them.

I will do a more detailed video on the SP3000 Mars Hydro grow light that I got but you should also check out the @MIGRO channel. Shane is very knowledgeable on the subject and also has the proper setup to make in depth technical reviews of grow lights. He covers a lot of grow lights on the market from various producers. I'm sure it will be helpful in deciding what to get.

Interesting presentation, though we do not need this type of growing system in India, I enjoyed the video fully. Thanks.

Thank you Mr. Samar! You are indeed lucky to live in a warm climate where you can grow many tropical plants outdoors without the need of a grow tent. In the end I think each climate has it's advantages.

I need one of these in my life badly. Id almost make videos just to get mars hydro to send me one, but I'm much, much better at procrastinating. This is a great review.
If you need to work on the plants when the lights are off, you can use a green fluorescent bulb as the spectrum doesn't confuse the plants cycle. Another nice thing for your set up would be a plastic tray, itll keep it safe and dry nd easy to clean.
Happy growing, looking forward to seeing your tropicals' progress.

I was starting to think that maybe I need one when I my window sills got full this year. 😊 Thanks, I appreciate the tips. I like the tray idea but where to get one that size?
I'm also very curious to see how much of a difference a grow tent/light makes on their winter progress.

What is it about daughters and stickers and furniture?? I don’t even know the source of the stickers. I just know they they are not there, and then suddenly there. On the furniture. And the walls. And especially the floor.
Anyway this looks like a great setup. Can’t wait to see the impact on the trees. Cheers!

I didn't notice any stickers on the walls yet but we have little scribbles instead. We had a sticker on the TV screen once, I thought my eyesight was going bad 😁. I'm also looking forward to seeing how big of a difference a grow tent makes and I intend to cover this in future videos.

Thanks! This one is almost the size of a medium wardrobe (length and width) so it should fit many places in a house.
I don't know if it's just my imaginatiin but I think the trees are already starting to grow faster 🙂 I will report back in a while.

I'm a cold loving person so everything above 25-26 deg C is too warm for me.🥵 You're welcome to visit and use the tent if you're not claustrophobic 😋.
I will have to play around with the setup a bit to lower the inside temperature when the door is closed.

Are there UV LEDs on the Mars Hydro sp3000?
    Or just the red ones?

    • @OddBonsai

Hy! The guys at Mars Hydro sent the tent and grow light in December to sponsor the channel.
There are no UV LEDs in the Mars Hydro SP3000, only warm white (3000K), white (5000k) and red (660nm). Hope this helps!
