I just wanna add that apparently when Kant uses the word "republic" or "republican", he refers to his idea of "republican" which is the separation of the executive power from the legislative power and not necessarily what we think of when we hear the word "republic(an)". Thank you for this video!

Hi there! It’s been years and years since I’ve come across this essay from Kant. Thank you for reintroducing it to me in your talk! I have my skepticism that peace will ever come through a legislative process, but I do hope to be shown wrong on that. What stands out with the legislative process (US gov’t example) are the military expenditures drawn from Congress’ purse and appropriated to the Dept. of Defense. The representatives of the citizenry allocating funds for military support is what keeps Kantian perpetual peace out of reach.
And you’re right: Kant definitely loved his own tidy world order. Aside from his worldview of laws, the descriptions of his own idiosyncratic behavior is always a fun read…
Thank you ever so much for your channel… Cheers 💖!

Indeed! The empire feeds off the republic.
To echo Rosa Luxemburg from 1918 Germany, before of course being executed by the freikorps paramilitary (later becoming the SS, shocker) at the behest of Ebert's ostensibly _social democratic_ SPD party, almost immediately resonating the truth of such a succinct political dichotomy to this day: *socialism or* [continued] *barbarism.*

13:03 What is "and an end in themselves" supposed to mean? To me, that doesn't even sound like English. Did I mishear? What does that mean?

Kant did say the peace would come about by man understanding or being made to understand.

Kant lived at a time when states only warred with other states. There were virtually no non state actors causing chaos, violence & death i.e. terrorist organizations. Also racism is racism. To suggest that Kant was being racist (if he was. I take your word for it) chiefly because he was European IS being racist.
I'm binging your videos this weekend. Love most of it thus far.
