  • A2B via Sea is Europe's first INDEPENDENT blogger to experience the brand new DFDS tourist service from Dunkerque (France) to Rosslare (Europort) in Ireland.
A2B via Sea will show you the check-in process, embarkation procedure & disembarkation plus, show you around the Regina Seaways - the restaurant, bar, lounges, cabins, food offering and exterior decks and show you what there is to do aboard a journey of 24hrs / 490 nautical miles.
Predominantly a freight only operation, due to overwhelming demand in France, Belgium and Ireland, DFDS is undertaking a trial tourist operation for a maximum of ten tourist vehicles (cars and motorhomes only) to gauge the feasibility of extending the service.
A comprehensive, though easy to read blog will be added to my website www.a2bviasea.co.uk and will give some top tips.

delighted this route has started. Very informative video, thank you! We love ferry travel, have travelled to Norway and Sweden from Ireland several times, all by sea and land, wonderful way to travel! I emailed DFDS and recieved a reply from Fin Murphy, Planning and Operation manager who told me this ferry crossing will 100% be in operation for 2023, can`t wait to use it!

Hi. Thanks for watching and your kind comment! I am so pleased the route will be operational in 2023 too! Presently there are now two ships on the route - the second being Visborg. Hopefully DFDS will continue this next year . A blog can be found at www.a2bviasea.co.uk

Very interesting as when going to Ireland we have the long trek to Cherbourg. As we pass Dunkirk it would make sense to look at this the next time we travel. Ah I see its only a trial at the moment, lets hope that it becomes a success. Thank you for taking the time to show us around the ship etc.

I made 4 trips to Ireland between august and december.
Only the first time I could use this trip.
Delays and cancelations all other times.
So on arriving in Dunkerque paperwork for England had to be done to make the trip over land to be in time.

Hi Barry. Thanks for watching! Bookings are made via the DFDS website. You complete an online form, DFDS make the booking and then send you the confirmation and an easy to read 8 page booklet about the crossing. My blog of the journey will be published VERY soon to www.a2bviasea.co.uk

@@A2BviaSeaonTV Great blog post. Plenty of useful information. I emailed DFDS enquiring about January 2023 crossings. I currently cannot book that far ahead but It should be possible to make a booking by the end of September. It would be great if this became a regular route, it would give so many more options when travelling to mainland Europe. Thanks again, Barry

Nice sailing if you’ve time or are a trucker needing to take a reduced weekly rest and/or your company can afford a tractor unit sitting idle for 24 hours but far faster to take the tunnel and ferry from either north or south Wales depending on what part of Ireland you’re heading to.

The whole point is for goods & trucks to avoid the UK altogether because of Brexit. It’s now a very successful route as no leaving the EU only to re-enter. Saves time, money & lots of daft paperwork.

@3:28 - that must be a Cantiere Navale, with that dire entrance way. I can only imagine this must have been originally designed as a service entrance.

Great video thank you :) I have a question. If you are from the UK do they stamp your passport in / out of the EU as you get on this Ferry? I am wondering e.g. if you go from Dover to Calais get an "entering EU" stamp then get this Ferry to Ireland, how do you get your "leaving the EU" stamp if you then say drive to Belfast so they know you have left the EU within the time limit ?

@@gregvideo07 Hi. I have spoken to DFDS. You must proceed to the Irish Terminal at the DFDS Port of Dunkerque (as per my vlog). After vehicle checkin you will come to the French PAF. Show them your onward ferry booking details and they will stamp your passport accordingly.

In contrast to there being absolutely no passenger ferries from the whole of the UK to Scandinavia and Germany. Politics and subsidies it seems.

    • @A2BviaSeaonTV
      @A2BviaSeaonTV  Рік тому

Hi. Thanks for watching! This is primarily a freight route - almost full of commercial vehicles on my journey. A limited number of tourist vehicles are provided as a trial to see if viable.
Seemingly it is as now two ships allow tourist traffic.

I'd imagine for water craft that the longer you go, the cost per km decreases significantly. The biggest cost is the staffing and first few kilometres. One they get to cruising speed it's a matter of floating.

Thanks, but unless you an see my comment warmingly complimenting your video, it's gone. Ditto saying how wonderfully close it gets to Cornwall (we're usually asleep when that other ferry (IF) are passing.)
I had included the DFDS direct link to this route, it can be hard to find given that it's the one route often not mentioned on their site. I thought maybe the link was tripping an automated deletion, so I removed and tried again, but still...
I mentioned that the link provides a sample menu for the stated 4 meals, but only 3 are showing and so had asked if it really was 4 meals per person.
I mentioned the price of one item, asking had you noticed prices in the shop because on a different ferry, it was €29, while only €18 in France and under €24 in Ireland
I also wondered how you found out that you had to not go to the Irish terminal, but have since worked out why, from your own blog.
And lastly, I suggested a stop at Rosslare village - not far from the port,- because there's a shop, a beach and much more life there than within the port.
So, unless you saw all that, it got removed, 4 times. @@A2BviaSeaonTV
