What you have there is the original core box that came out when the game first released. All the minis that came out for Legion at that time were that soft plastic with each mini in individual bags. Around the time they released the second core box with the Galactic Republic (jedi and clones) vs the Separatists (droids), they transitioned to hard plastic minis on sprues. All Legion minis now come on sprues.
Legion is absolute quality. In terms of rules easily the best full scale sci-fi wargame. Sure, some of the older minis are a bit basic, but the current stuff is easily as good as GW’s offerings. If you are used to Legion 40K feels unbelievably quick and engaging. Alternating activations rather than turn and turn about (IGOUGO) means you have negligible downtime between your turns. Best of all the rules are a living, on-line document and all the units come with their rules & upgrades, so no need to shell out for rulebooks & codexes.
Legion is fantastic. The speed paints will make painting those stormtroopers quick and easy. Such a simple look, but deceptively hard to paint black n' white!

I’ve been playing the old SW miniatures game - Revenge of the Sith - for ages but its obviously time for an upgrade. Also, regarding sprues. I believe there are no sprues for Rebel, Republic, Empire and Mercenary units but Separatist units(especially the droids) are on sprues.
This game is one of my favourites. The models are awesome. The rule set is sound with objectives being the drive for the missions. You can play it in a skirmish size too at 500pts. I’ve been painting and playing for 6 months at my local gaming store and the community there is great and friendly for new players. Don’t be put off by the price you can get army boxes now for 150 rrp and the essentials kit is 20 ish. You can get going properly for 170rrp and there are deals out there to get you involved for cheaper. A much lower price point than most GW armies if you want to compare. Good video and well worth a look.

Legion is great, I hope you cover it more! The newer kits are on plastic sprues so they dont make the new kits like this. I'm happy with that tho, makes the building more fun! Ive done mine in an endor theme too, I just wish the kit came with endor Luke rather than bespin, bit weird but you can buy him seperately

I'm just like you and prefer movies 4-6 with Return of the Jedi as my favorite as well. I was going to invest into Legion but as a way to upgrade my entire set of imperial assault, but the costs were so high it would have been cheaper for me to buy a 4k resin printer. Legion rules are free online and they have an essentials set for the counters. Just felt that was more cost effective.
Would you (open to everyone) recommend this game to someone who regularly plays 40K and Necromunda? What does it do differently to other mini war games? Obviously I love Star Wars but is that it? Is it easier to play? Faster? What are the USPs of the game over others? What draws you all to it over others?

Over the last few months the price of this box has ballooned by well over 30% of the original price. It has unfortunately completely priced me out. I was planning on getting into this game but the new prices are just too much for me.
