So sorry for Dominic! Such a great player to watch and such a great person off court! But yeah, we kind of saw it coming with Domi losing to low ranked players

It's not only the injury, he lost 1st round RG even before injury. Something to do with motivation and self confidence too.

    Poor Thiem!
I was hoping he can play longer ….
It’s very unfortunate about his injury. I wish him the best of luck in the future.

The fact that Thiem has been thinking about it for a long time means it's not just injury. After he won USO he said he struggled with motivation, his form dipped and injury made it even worse. It's hard to believe a player with such talent only wanted to win 1 slam coz I thought he had a RG in him, but he lost 1st round 2021 RG even before the injury. About the injury yes it must be bad but Zverev broke his ankle and was back to RG semis in a year but for last 3 years he can get barely into top 100. Still a better career than most players, but wish he had more fight in him.

Well one of the video. He says he plays with pain on his wrist and lately it's been less but it's not the same. He used to hit real hard now he can't do it without pain.

  • @Kessra

To be fair, the last 2 years were just horrible tennis from him. At times with a bit of light in the darkness, but not even enough for challenger levels. With just 30 years of age he should have had 3-4 more years easily, but you could clearly see that his head wasn't in it further. Selfdoubts just dominated. He therefore played mostly for the sponsors. Even his former coach Bressnik offered to coach him again which Thiem immediately declined. Since the AO he didn't even had a real coach and was basically just trained by his family and friends on and off. It therefore was clear, after he announced that if he's not returning to Top 50 ASAP this will be his last season. Sad to see the king and prince of clay leave the tennis circuite at the same time.
To me, the best match, even though he lost it in the end, was at USO against Raffa. That match had everything in it. A donut to Raffa with an almost perfect-playing Thiem, the typical fighting spirit of Nadal to come back and the pure power shots they produced over several intense hours with high precision.

Thiem was one of my favourite players. That glorious single handed backhand of his, just like Wawrinka's was spectacular! Such a competitor who showed so much heart on court. My favourite memories are matches against Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Also Denis Shapovalov, and Wawrinka. I miss seeing him at the top of the game. I'm sure he is leaving the sport, because he can tell he is not competive any longer. He is still so young, as Del Potro was when he left the sport, although he was always trying to return. Wishing Dominic good luck moving forward.

Very sad... Dominic was one of those players who could simply beat anybody. If he was having a very good day, he could beat Fed Nov or Rafa. His record against them speaks for itself. Some people have a 0-20 record against these players in their career. Not Dominic. He will be missed 😢

People here dissing at Thiem its been pretty clear from him and his play that his wrist is just not at the same level anymore. Now don't start the "he should've taken care of his body like big 3".. this is a wrist injury which is arguably one of the worst injuries for a human being let alone tennis player.. so let's cut him slack.. he was one the few to go toe to toe with them.. I'll happily watch his last matches and see those occasional rockets! :)
