Yeah, the anti-Paul bias is real. It’s 2023 and still alive and well, unfortunately.
People remember how pushy he was in studio. At times insufferable and controlling. In the end, Paul was just trying to keep it all together. John became quite recluse, George just wanted to do his own thing at this time, and Ringo was enjoying copious amounts of drink.
Damn some people dislike Paul with a passion !!
I think it can't be argued that George was a phenomenal writer and guitar player. But I do believe because Paul was the happiest person to go back to the beatles he is vilified for it

Have seen both live a couple times post Beatles. Love them both, but really? It is Paul.
As always a fascinating discussion between the two of you and well worth listening to. BUT, sorry Jason, Steven and by extension George is the winner by a whisker. Hehehe. I don't know if either of you have watched "3,2,1 McCartney" on the Hulu channel where Paul is interviewed over 6 thirty minute programmes by Rick Rubin.? I found it interesting that such a large number of the songs happened to be John songs. But, true to form, Pauls' contribution to them seemed to get prominence. It's worth a watch if you can get hold of it.. It will change neither of your minds but it was fascinating watching Paul keep himself in check. Some of the time. Keep on Rocking guys.
Quite dismissive of McCartney's talent. To suggest that he didn't develop as a musician or a song writer after 1964 has no basis in reality.
Paul has many friends.... Lorna Michaels use a very close friend for decades, I just saw a clip on Howard Stern about Woody Harrelson saying that Paul is a great friend who he goes and stays with on Long Island and Paul even taught him how to sail, Dave grohl is a very good friend to him, Olivia and Dhani love him dearly, He and Ringo FaceTime everyday, and Sean adores him as well. He has parties often and is always out and about.
Great discussion! But... Around 29:30 what you say about Paul erasing George's guitar in Oh! Darling isn't true at all. At first John played the guitar part on that song - George was on bass! Paul played piano and he neither substituted one of those two parts. The only thing he did over and over again was his vocal performance because he wasn't satisfied with his singing!
I think it has been revealed since the Revolver re-mix came out, that Paul did in fact play bass on She said, She said.
"Got My Mind Set on You" vs. "Spies Like Us"? You must be joking. SLU was greeted by my high school clutch as being a mediocre miss. No one I knew bought it. GMMSOU, on the other hand, are what hit singles are made of. All you had to do was be alive at the time and you would have it memorized it from having heard it everywhere.
Got my mind is a much better song but it's a cover. George didn't write it!
@@nollaeel5697 - George covered it as a single. A good choice. A record from the days when The Beatles were just about to burst out. Also "When We Was Fab" from the same album. Paul's ability to write and release a 'hit single' during those years seemed quite limited. Perhaps he may have benefitted from taking a lesson from his 'little brother' George and released one of his Russian Album early rock n roll covers or something like it. But, please, there's no defending SLU.

Well it’s already been 60+ years, and I see young kids still discovering and listening to them. Also I hear lots of Beatle influences, either collectively or individually in most of the new bands out today, so there’s a good chance .

Stu Sutcliffe wrote in a letter .. “Paul is the black sheep .. everybody hates him .. feel so sorry for him” .. issues between paul george and john went way back .. george would not ask paul what notes were in chords in get back preferring to ask billy preston .. weird really.
george wouldn’t play bass .. leaving john to blunder through it on piano takes .. long winding road has appalling wrong notes from john.

Are you done dissing, mocking and dismissing Paul McCartney as a human being and musician. Disgustingly biased! You Love Paul, give me a break! These guys are no friends of Paul, taking Klein’s side against Paul.
George was never a guitar virtuoso. And he seemed to know it. I don't agree that he was constantly improving, I think he was constantly surrounding himself with more talented musicians and struggling to keep up with them. His raw studio stuff sounds very pedestrian and unimpressive. But he worked hard to make a final product that sounds great.

I like the heavy anti Paul take. Not because I buy it, but because the case must be made, as it should for all 4. None of these guys are saints by any stretch. My take is that Paul is the better singer, writter and musician , but George is a better human being. At the same time, George is also a great singer, writer and musician, and Paul is also a great human being. From 1970-73, George was the most commercially and critically successful of the four by a long shot; he had his day and then some. They are both great band members. I always felt the Beatles were at their best when John takes the lead and George and Paul are into it- that's when the band really cooks. George's work with other musicians- including Lennon and Ringo shows what a great team player he is and what he brings to the table. I wish Paul had done more work with other musicians not named Wings, because he is such a great harmony singer, arranger and bass player. But George is so damn loyal and is such a phenomenal group member. How he supported Paul's song Get Back is a great example; one of hundreds. All of these guys have big egos, but John and Paul had ridiculously huge egos. It amazes me that George survived that and still flourished.
Some contentious claims being made here. Just goes to show that no one is perfect, not even The Beatles. The adulation of George is somewhat over the top, IMO. His best work gave him exclusive songwriting credits, and could have provided a template for a70s Beatles - if he hadn't been so grumpy. Unlike the Lennon/McCartney melodrama where those two were for better or worse fused together. Ringo has acknowledged that Paul's work ethic kept The Beatles going, thereby helping to create some of their greatest works. So much for bossy Paul. The thing some die-hard commentators can't acknowledge is that George had a limited vocal repertoire and couldn't solo. And he had uncomfortable body language on stage going right back to the early days. That's why he never really had a solo career, and never liked public performance. Both Paul (and John) helped sweeten up George's greatest works - Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun, If I needed Someone, Something. So much gor Paul being selfish. And one more thing, although Mark Lewison has many, many writing credits on the Paul bashing topic he is not the 5th Beatle and, in contrast to Beatle Paul - doesn't have a god-given right to fashion a career out of this self-appointed gig.
It just too George longer to develope. P&J were peaked at 18 years old. It took George to 26-27 before he peaked. Once he did he was their equal
There are moments here where I agree with the George advocate but others where I totally disagree! Agree that GH should have gotten some more writing credits but totally disagree that PAUL was somehow stagnant . By 1969 Paul just correctly realized a RNR band has to play live…so he tried to reignite a Live Beatles…realizing that concert conditions had totally changed since 1966. Also giving writing credits for drum fills is falling into the modern trap of giving everyone within breathing distance of a recording co-writing credits and you have 15 “writers” listed..LUDICROUS ,! A songs Copyright Involves writing the MELODY and Lyrics sometimes ket Riffs or starting the song idea with a chord progression… endless discussion in this subject.
I've heard many people stretching facts and cherrypicking evidence to justify their hatred of Paul but this has to be the worst. Paul has no friends??!! Paul put Linda in a difficult position putting her in the band??!! Paul is just about the money?? Paul can't have improved on the bass because he was already brilliant?? Ridiculous stuff.
There is a very revealing glimpse of Paul in the Sound City documentary. He's got plenty of friends and isn't pretentious as all.

It could be argued that the Plastic Ono Band all star band London Lyceum UNICEF concert (that featured George) in December of 1969 set the template for Bangladesh.

I would have voted for Paul inside the Beatles and George as a musician solo career compared to the other guys.
As human beings are both talented musician, intelligent and sensitive men.
But Paul is a bit more arrogant and stubborn and George s too resentful
Paul and George are two wonderful guys.
No one doubt about Paul's musical talent. He was the driving Force of the Beatles. But George was fifferent but no inferior to him at all. The difference is that he was absolutely underrated and limited by the 2 egoes of Paul and John.
His talent was absolutely recognized by all the other great musicians who admired and supported him. Not by his mates, Ringo and George Martin included. NEMO PROPHETA IN PATRIA is an old latin saying very appropriate about George. He worked so much to improve himself but he was not given enough credit nor any possibilities to express himself. That's the reason of his resentment or frustration. It was a pity Paul recognized this only later and realized how great and important for the Beatles his friend was. Better late than never

80% of Pauls solo career is garbage. he has 3-4 good albums. I do not understand your discussion on solo careers. J&G had some fantastic albums

The aspect of Paul having no friends was new to me. But when I think about it, it seems actually true. That could be why Paul was so down after the breakup, as he did not only lost his beloved music group but also his good friends.
But anyway, the more I informed myself with the Beatles, the more my respect for George and Paul grew, for different reasons.
But honestly I did not follow any Beatles solo projects after an initial listen. For me, Lennon‘s first attempts were promising, but failed mostly after the „Imagine“ album.
George‘s „All Thing Must pass“ is a great record in general, but I am not liking his slide guitar style at all. He also changed his style to something much less exciting after that album. Great analysis though on his view on doing music!
With Paul, I could never get into his solo or Wings stuff. It is just too soft and polished.

Team George. I think the fact that Paul can never be satisfied and has to just put out anything that crosses his mind is rather exhausting. At least George can stop.
