    I can’t believe I drove from Indiana all the way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If anyone in this thread hasn’t been to the Grand Canyon, you must make it a priority in your travels. I yearn to go back to the Grand Canyon, I probably think about it everyday. I’m glad Randy is here to show people who can’t get there the beauty. I share his channel with lots of people with mobility issues who mention they dreamt of seeing the parks and cannot during my work.

      Right on! Hopefully everyone can see the canyon in person once in their lifetime. And so thankful, as you mentioned, that those who can't, can enjoy it (to a degree) through the videos. Really appreciate your support of the channel!

    That was such a great video and an awesome adventure. Loved the drone shots. So happy they gave you permission or you were in an area that allowed, whichever the case may be. What a special area and so amazing that you can find that much solitude on the canyon rim. Congrats on crossing this one off your bucket list.
    It feels really good to be watching your videos again. I took a very long hiatus from UA-cam. Around Thanksgiving of ‘21 I contracted a very rare and severe eye infection that just turned my world upside down. It was an absolute nightmare and that is putting it mildly. It put me in such a dark place and I had to give up everything travel related. It was just too depressing. I leaned into my faith to help guide me through and my incredible family was there to pick me up. Finally on the other side of it and stable but still fighting the after effects. However, I have been able to start my adventures back up this year and have been able to do some awesome things and have a lot more planned this year. Can’t wait to catch up on your videos for inspiration and to see what I missed.

    Randy, what an epic four-wheel-drive adventure! I’ve done a few of these over the years with our 4 x 4 bronco, and other Ford 4x4 vehicles, and while the Grand Canyon view is absolutely outstanding, the journey there is part of the fun. Very good of you to show how caution is a necessity for survival when traveling off-road. Outstanding rim campsite! Does not get much better than that. Excellent views. What a great part of the Grand Canyon! Epic photography! I get your enthusiasm over camping out on the rim; I camped out at Tuweep years ago & was astounded at the colors at sunset and then at sunrise. It's interesting that you took pictures across from the Skywalk. On another trip I took in Quartermaster viewpoint before the Skywalk was built and did a rather foolish thing; at rims edge, I jumped down onto a triangular rock about 3 feet down and hit loose pebbles! I had the presence of mind to throw myself onto my backside. I slid a foot or so and stopped just short of the 3000' dropoff! Needless to say, I was lucky....live and learn, I guess. As always I truly enjoyed this vlog. Thanks!

    Randy, I've heard of the West Rim, but never had any idea where it's located. Going roughly east to west, I figured the people saying that didn't know their geography. So, it's at the Skywalk. That's on the Hualapai (WAH-la-pie) Res., which is west of the Havasupai (have-uh-SUE-pie) Res., home of the "people of the blue-green water". In fact, when you come to Supai, you pass right through the former's res. at Peach Springs.

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  3 роки тому

      Exactly, Jim! Same here, I thought how can there be a west rim on a canyon that runs E to W? lol! Went to Havasupai several years ago - amazing!

    • @jimgreen5788
      @jimgreen5788 Рік тому

      @@moonshine8255 , can't forget how long it is, either, which is 277 miles, not all of which is in the national park. In fact, the Havasupai (have-uh-SUE-pie) Reservation is just 50 miles or so to the west, which is beyond the westernmost point of the national park, but it still continues beyond that point.

    If overlanding you can start by going in from cedar pocket. Bunkerville. Go to Tassi then back and up over Pakoon. Then here.
    Then back up and over Trumbull down to Toroweap.
    You can do Dellenbaugh.
    I would drive out back up Trumbull to Wolf's Hole up Black Rock down backside and out Mesquite. Obviously 4x4.
    On way back to Saint George get off at exit 18 drive to top of hill. Stop climb up for view. Campground has nice bathroom. And trail to river.
    Behind that giant rock in river is a 13 mile canyon up to highest peak in are. No water need gallons in desert. 4 if hot and Fritos for salt.

    Stunning Super Splendid SunSet views! Dramatic aerial perspective of the Grand Canyon. Sometime back I watched a video of you doing a journey across the Grand Canyon I very much enjoyed that one. Four years ago I spent my Thanksgiving weekend at the Skywalk Bridge on the other side, take from me Don't waste your time. Spectacular to see the Grand Canyon, but the experience on the Skywalk thing been there done that not doing it again, cause people who own Skywalk bridge just rush you through it and eager to take your money it seemed.

      Thanks so much, Karen! I was really concerned about getting stuck too - about 1.5K to get towed out!! Thankfully, the Jeep we had (and the driver) took good care of us. Take care!

    Great lighting. Great colors. Great location. Out of curiosity, how hard was it to get that drone permit?

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! Most, if not all of the area is BLM land, where drones are legally permitted. The NPS manages the inner canyon. We spoke with a Ranger in the BLM office to make sure we were legal in our places of operation.

      Thanks, Mike! Yeah, mis-spoke in that one section - it was 90 miles (110 from the Jeep place). I'd say we were on that road for roughly 5 hours.

    The AZ STRIP is 80x200 miles thereabouts. Below it is gcnp. West Lake Mead NRA. East Grand Staircase Escalante. Zion. It is big.
    The road out to point from Oak Grove is decent but has some dips that are sketchy.
    The are going up over BLM 1069 then down to Wolf Hole then right long way then left south. It's marked.
    GET THE MAP!.
    The mud in the trees is before you get out on finger. Once out on finger 👉 you drive through bushes.
    NPS doesn't maintain roads. Dry in July August is better. But hotter.

    Wow Randy! First off I never knew that there was a 90 Mile dirt road from St George to the rim of the Grand Canyon! Out of curiosity did you guys fly into St George or some other city? You know I've watched a lot of videos of yours and I have honestly never seen you so excited to be someplace like when you arrived to the rim of the Grand Canyon in this video! It was awesome that you were actually able to use the Drone in this National Park on this trip. What a great adventure and I'm glad you were able to finally cross this one off your list. Thanks for sharing another cool video with us all!

      Nice words, Eric! Yeah, most of the land is BLM (drones permitted). The NPS only oversees the inner canyon. We were probably good either way, but checked just to make sure. Enjoy your week!

      @@AmericasParks per GCPNM website: "Launching, landing or operating an unmanned aircraft from or on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service within the boundaries of Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument is prohibited except as approved in writing by the Superintendent." Parts of the national monument (200,000 out of 1,000,000 acres, are actually NPS lands but those are west where you were. Great video footage... the colors were really nice. I think the small amount of smoke in the skies enhanced your colors beneficially while the sun was low. Best wishes.

    Mount Dellenbaugh is my least favorite area but many like it. Mokeac Well. Oak Grove out to kelly point. Road is not maintained once in NPS.
    Great overlook other one upstream is harder to get too.
    Each finger is lower than last aka Kaibab Plateau 8800. Trumbull. Mountain top is 8000. Then Dellenbaugh 6000 at top area.
    Then Kelly.

    How does one go about acquiring permission to fly a drone? And what does it involve?

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  3 роки тому

      Depends on where you want to fly. If for "recreation purposes" only, anyone can gat a drone and fly it in the approved areas.

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  3 роки тому

      And there are some good apps that tell you where it's legal to fly based on your gps.

      @@josephw1785 Yes, National Parks are indeed a no-fly zone, but you are permitted to fly in BLM land-National Moments (like most of this video), National Forests and some State Parks.

      Much of the land is BLM where drones are permitted. The very rim in NPS. We might have been totally fine either way, since we were not operating beyond the rim. Just to be safe, we personally checked with the BLM office.

Shout out to JMike's for all their charity work and they give you a free sandwich and drink on your birthday the past so many years. You are blessed with good friends. You can't do a trip like this with just anyone. If you can count your true friends on all five fingers then you are extremely lucky these days.

    Your not allowed to fly drones in National parks

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  2 роки тому +1

      True, but this is NOT a National Park location. Parashant is run by the Land Management Bureau where drones are often permitted. We were even given special permission to fly by the rim.
