    Chapter 21: Following a Dream
    Battle: The Final Battle
    Battle starts at: 8:40.
The final mission in the Silver Snow route! We're up against Rhea and tons of powerful enemies. A lot of them carry shields and the Miracle ability, so be very careful.
In this mission you're up against White Beasts, as well. Their effect on Rhea is not explicitly explained by the game, but basically they will fully heal her if they get too close to her. Since this only heals her current health bar, it's possible to fight Rhea even with this effect activating each turn if you can take down one health bar per turn.
Alternatively, you can force Rhea into an alternate form by blocking the endless reinforcements of White Beasts at the south, which is easy enough. She's stronger, but she won't heal from them! Regardless of what you do, be careful of her attack. It deals 46 damage in a big area of effect around the target. Fortify is a great way to come back from it.
Go all out on this battle! It's The Final Battle, after all.
    Thanks for watching!

The hardest map imo, a total nightmare in Maddening.
I personally first split my team to defeat enemies from the east and west (stride + dancing and Warp shenanigans), then regrouping to bait the Falcons and Dragons from the south (dodge tank Wyvern Lord Petra + Evasión Ring in my case) and blasting them with combat arts and hardest weapons (Ferdinand with Killer Lance+ and swit Strike or Bernie with Brave Bows). War Master Caspar was also an MVP, specially with Dragon Knuckles. Then i took it very slowly until Rhea, full gambits and Byleth with Ruptured Heaven.
Your take on the map was faster and safer though, amazing. Incredible walktrough.

Regarding the DLC, I do want to cover it eventually, but I'd feel really bad paying 25 dollars for it, I don't think it's worth the money with what it offers compared to what the main game does for full price. Maybe if it goes on sale? Can DLC go on sale? If not, uh... maybe in a couple of months? I'd cover the side story and then do another Crimson Flower playthrough so I can cover the 3 DLC Paralogues and that would be the actual end to this playthrough.

I personally got the DLC when it went on sale around September-October of this year, so I know for a fact you can get it at discount. It rarely happens from what I've seen however, so be aware the wait might take a long time.

@@Hawlo If that's the case, it's ultimately up to you if Cindered Shadows (7 chapters), the Ashen Wolves + Anna, the 3 DLC paralogues and some extra monastery features are essentially worth $25 (which IMO is the meaty part of the content offered).
(Like I said before, I'm from the camp the whole thing was too expensive so choose to wait for the DLC pass to get a discount before getting it).

I know the feeling. I feel uncomfortable paying 20-something bucks for Sword & Shield’s DLC and also uncomfortable paying $15 for Pokémon Home’s premium, even if someone else paid it for me.

Remember when I said Silver Snow is essentially a tragedy? It's because of this whole "oh no! Rhea's powers have gone berserk and now she has to be put down" thing the story brings up at the last minute, which... isn't really given an explanation as to *why* it happens (and ONLY in Silver Snow) beyond some throaway dialogue suggesting something among the lines of "Rhea isn't supposed to transform into a dragon when weakened. Otherwise, this happens".
As for this last map... holy moly. Funeral of Flowers is a pretty kickass song to end things up, but gameplay-wise this mission is easily the hardest map the game offers. Tons of enemies with Miracle (final boss included), multiple minibosses with brave weapons, and a final boss that's goes above and beyond in making sure you'll have the hardest of times against it.
13:10 Random datamine trivia!: unused data for this mission reveals there were plans to have the player block 3 different spots that spawned monsters in the map rather than just one. These would've been located on the eastern & western strongholds on the map, and involved unique lines & voiceclips that go unused in the game proper, which can be found on The Cutting Room Floor.

Congratulations, you’ve done it! Very nice to actually see the map being routed to its fullest. I ignore the Golems in the top because they aren’t aggressive and I’d rather focus on getting to Rhea ASAP.
As for my strategy, since you ask, I play it more aggressively. I Stride + Warp a War Master with Vantage/Wrath and Killer Axe+ to enemy phase the Falcons and bait out the beasts with Blessing so I don’t die. But after that I don’t split my army, I keep everyone together and go bottom right - bottom left - top left - top right killing all the enemies as they approach me. And I just blast the enemies with Combat Arts and enemy phasing from my Vantage/Wrath War Master because I love low HP strategies that go brrr (don’t even get me started on Vengeance Bernie in this map, it’s WildTM).
Overall, loved your take on the maps! I haven’t done dodge tanking strategies in ages, so maybe it might be fun to try that out with a Wyvern Lord Ingrid next time I boot up the game.
And three cheers for all that unique dialogue! It’s all heartbreaking, which fits perfectly with the tone of the map and its song tbh. Funeral of Flowers is just a banger!

1:13-4:13 So, Rhea created Byleth’s mother, in an attempt to to revive her mother, which made Byleth a reincarnation of Sothis. That technically makes Rhea Byleth’s grandmother and daughter at the same time… I can only imagine the look of shock on the faces of everyone who selected to spend their lives with Rhea *without* learning this!
17:54 My strategy only differs in two ways; 1) I go to break all the shields on the White Beasts, just to weaken their defenses enough to kill them easier. And 2) I have everyone carry a Pure Water to help withstand the White Beasts attacks.
1:13:11 Well, in all of the endings I’ve looked up with Cathrine, Rhea is only mentioned if Byleth gets an A or S rank with her, so it’s possible Rhea dies if you don’t build enough support with her.
    *[Story Thoughts]*
It’s hard to say where I put this, in terms of likability. I’ve already complained about all the stuff that I didn’t like about it, and I _think_ I praised some stuff in this path that the others didn’t have… maybe, so I’ll just talk about a gripe I haven’t spoken up about, until now, and that’s the lack of an arc for Byleth in Part 2.
In Part 1, the story focuses on Byleth; their power, their unfamiliarity to Fódlan, the death of their father, and the mystery Rhea is keeping from them, all while their house leader supports them as they take on a teaching role for the first time. Once Part Two starts for the other 3 routes, the roles are swapped; Byleth becomes the tactician and moral compass for the army rather than its leader, and the house leader of the house you chose becomes the main character, as they’re the one to make the big decisions. However, SS doesn’t have *any* of the former house leaders join your army, so all that’s left is Byleth. Seteth sort of fills the role left by the former house leader, but he’s an advisor instead of the leader. The only arc Byleth goes through is whether or not they accept their role as the new ruler of Fódlan, and that’s it.
However, I don’t know if whether that’s worse than CF or not. Both of their weaknesses (for me) is the lack of world-building. Edelgard was misinformed about a lot of things, and only believed them because the first emperor passed the information down. As Fi from Skyward Sword said, “Ah yes, the oral tradition, one of the least reliable methods of information retention and transmission.” CF could’ve been salvaged, if Edelgard learned the truth and still went through with her plans, just to make sure that neither the Nabateans nor the Agarthans would be the ones to rule Fódlan. This is where the Nabateans have a leg up, since they’ve lived long enough to accurately tell their history… which they never do. They never directly call themselves Nabateans to Byleth or anyone else who isn’t one. We hear the word Agarthans spoken more than Nabateans!
Maybe that’s why I like neither routes that start with the Black Eagles; there’s too much I dislike from both of them that keep their positives from shining through. I don’t know if SS is better or worse than CF, but I know neither are as good as AM nor VW.
    *[Gameplay Thoughts]*
Since this route is just VW without Claude as well as the battle at Gronder, I wanted to make it a bit more… unique. I decided to use every single Seiros unit throughout my run, and used all of them in the final battle. This is especially tough because Seiros units have a chance at getting either 1 or 0 stats when leveling up, and training the Black Eagles & Seteth for Chapter 13 and their paralogues made this quite the juggling routine. But, thanks to this, I gained appreciation for half of these units that I never did in my other runs. How much? Well, let me put it this way; I had to redo the final battles for the other 3 routes twice or thrice to even get a decent strategy going in for a proper No-Death run, while this final battle only took one retry, and it was only because The Immaculate One killed two of my units at once at the last moment after I ran out of DP, and I hadn’t even taken out her first HP bar. I know I was playing Casual, but losing a unit in Maddening, even if it’s just for that one battle, can screw over your entire strategy and will lead to a Game Over.
    *[Overall Thoughts]*
This game was fun! Thanks to you, I got into playing Maddening, and thanks to the discussions I’ve had throughout this walkthrough, I’ve gained a new appreciation for my favorite house; The Blue Lions! As for the gameplay, it was great to have units able to train to any class. Even though some units have disadvantages learning certain proficiencies, with enough time, that weakness can be overcome, as shown with Manuela learning Bolting!
A major negative is the repetition of Part 1 and a decent chunk of Part 2. Having to play through the game several times can easily lead to Burn-out, especially if you’re trying to get every single support… like I did. That was a pain, especially since I needed to redo all of the routes to get the Ashen Wolves’ supports with the other houses’ units! Proper pacing is a must for completing this game 100%!
This was a great game to get me back into Fire Emblem, and I hope the next game is even better. Thanks for putting up with this game for two years, and I look forward to your next project.

Something really similar happened in FE Fates where you don't learn until the third, true route that you're related to a character you can marry and have kids with in all three routes. They retconned that in the art book by saying their mothers were "sisters in spirit" instead of actual sisters.
But there's no retconning what Rhea did to Byleth, ohhhh no.

    • @JJ_R
      @JJ_R 2 роки тому +2

@@Hawlo I’m just glad that didn’t happen to me when I played all 3 routes of Fates. I looked up a non-spoiler guide and learned that, with Male Corrin, there wouldn’t be enough female units to get every single child-unit, if I had Corrin S rank one of most of the other girls. And, since I didn’t want Corrin marrying a child-unit, I went with Route-exclusive female units. I had Corrin marry Scarlet in Birthright, Flora in Conquest, and Anna in Revelations (DLC unit pairing for the DLC route) (This also had all 3 Kanas have their hair colors be the 3 primary colors!)

Funfact re: Rhea's fate. There is never any mention about her death in any route. The only indication we get about her possible death is through Catherine's endings (and some of Byleth's). In AM, Byleth's ending mentions Rhea stepping down and Catherine's mentions she accompanies Rhea to Zanado. In SS, Catherine's ending ending only mentions this if Byleth has reached an A support with Byleth, which indicates she lives, even if the final cutscene implies she dies. In VW Catherine goes wandering alone, which implies she dies. This also happens in SS if Byleth has not reached an A support with Byleth.

And that is the end of Silver Snow. A decent route and the first route created according to the developers.
I feel like it could have some more work done to it and give more knowledge of the Nebateans and Sothis. As well as making Rhea playabale so we can have Saint Seiros fighting on our side instead of as an enemy. Not to mention, the supports we could have with her and the other playable units, especially Seteth, Flayn, Catherine and Cyril. I mostly want to see a support between Rhea and Manuela as iirc Manuela became a singer because she hear a beautiful voice singing. It is a current theory that is was Rhea singing that Manuela heard given how Rhea's singing ability, though only displayed once, is shown to be quite captivating and provide details to how the song came about to be.
Another interesting support would between Rhea and Hanneman as to why Rhea would allow Hanneman into the school despite his research being primarily geared to understanding the secrets of crests so he can diminish the value of Crests in society. Would be interesting to see Rhea's thoughts on the topic
@Hawlo How did you think of the route, the dynamic between Teacher vs Student drama and how does the route compared to the other routes in your opinion, especially Crimson Flower given that it is the opposite route of it from the path split.

    • @moltz4866
      @moltz4866 2 роки тому

We don't know if Rhea's aware of Hanneman's end goal for his research though. In that respects, that area could've been explored more since we know for a fact Rhea would rather keep the status quo of the Crests as it is rather than another war.

Maybe it's because I played it last but this route was overall not that impressive to me. I know it was created first, but I think it should've delved deeper into the lore of the Nabateans, so I agree with you there. To me it ends up feeling less interesting than the other non CF routes because not much that's unique happens here for most of it, or at all. It has a few cool scenes, like meeting Dimitri's ghost, at least, but overall it's last in my list of "which route should I replay".

But Chris Hackney plays Dimitri with two things I feel Kaito Ishikawa lacked. Heart and Emotion. Chris sounds like he had a ball with Dimitri, both pre, post and Minimitri. I love Three Houses. Would I recommend? Sure. Is it flawed? Doesn’t every game? I feel that Crimson Flower and Verdant Wind are the two major downfalls in the story department. Best story and most challenging in a Maddening easily are Azure Moon and Silver Snow. But it’s time for me to do my final run. My first Maddening run and to end it all, with Azure Moon

This map has to be one of the best gameplay wise. You are surrounded by so many units (that a fair few have Brave weapons and A-Rank spells like Agnea’s Arrow, Aura and Abraxas) multiple monster units that can easily reach you via flight and their pesky Miracle and my goodness Rhea’s Surging Light ability and a deadly AOE Staggering Blow that can also heal allies at that and don’t get me started on the triple Physic Bishops.
This map, is hell on Maddening and a decent challenge on Hard and I liked this map. Story-wise however… boring. Easily should’ve been Nemesis and the Elites for a proper 1 v 1
