Tried it in several pipes, all good experiences. It will be a new regular for me. Love the coco swiss miss kick that it has, over the other similar codger offerings. Ended pipe club with CH this evening.
Thanks, Pat! Glad the summer expeiment was worthwhile for you. Looking forward to trying some one of these days. Would love to be able try the old vs. the new. I love doing side by side taste tests.
The absolute best tobacco ads are all in the past. It’s a real shame. Thank you for preserving history. I agree at every point, my friend. I love your approach to the review process. Carter Hall is the AKF7 of Pipe Tobaccos. And I mean that with upmost affection.
Good thoughts about Carter Hall. Rose sent me some Prince Albert, Carter Hall and Velvet. I like the Prince Albert best. Thanks for the video. Be blessed
I totally agree about CH being a great mixer. In fact, I stopped smoking it straight a long time ago, but add it to several other blends. Most often, I put some in the bottom of a bowl of Solani AB. That way I know I'm getting to the bottom and don't waste the Solani since it's so damn expensive and hard to get. Try mixing CH, Sutliff 515RC, and Old Dark Fired. One of my long time favorites.
my Carter Hall Summer has ended. I was smoking a tub of the vintage stuff (thanks, Parker! ) and really enjoyed it, but it's not going to be my main puff. thanks to Fr Brian I have a tub of the latest iteration socked away for next Summer. until then I will be smoking more complex stuff.
Cobs and codger guy here . ( recently returned to pipe smoking ) I have avoided the relighting hassle so far . I believe it's partly bc I only have mid size bowls ( I see you have one of my favorite). A relaxing 20 to 30 minute smoke is perfect for me . Packed right and a little tamping is working for me and my Missouri meerschaums . Carter Hall on my list to try . Thank you for posting .
Yeah I don’t care for large bowls any longer. Used to love em and still smoke them occasionally. But small codger sized bowls of 1.5inch or so is where it’s at for me.
Thanks, Pat! All great points. 👍 I think CH is a number 3 codger for me. Behind Granger and PA. Still a great smoke though. Fall is definitely sneaking in.
Hey Pat, great review of Carter hall. Have smoked both versions and like you I'm a fan of the Dominican version. I'll agree that it is a one dimensional smoke and it's something I reach for when I can't figure out what I want to smoke. Enjoy your Thursday. Cheers
Carter Hall has been my go-to codger blend for a long time. However, its top position is in danger of being overthrown by Granger. Wow, is that a great tobacco! Both are great, but I think Granger may be better. Glad you've enjoyed Carter Hall. It really is an easy blend to smoke!
"If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball!" That was my take away on not using the finest all the time. lol I think for me it might be half and half that I don't really get. I may have to smoke it a lot more to see if I'm maybe missing out on something and in different pipes. Meers definitely have a weird filter effect on flavors, but then again so do the filters for me I have noticed. Great video as always, I love them!
Half and half can def be polarizing. However for me it has grown to be my fav codger blend. It calls me back all the time. Everyone’s tastes are different and that’s what’s so fun!
Greetings from Northern Kentucky! I agree with your final thoughts. I love a codger blend, especially for working while I smoke, but these days I've been reaching for Watch City's Deluxe Crumb Cut when I'm on the job. It has a lot of the good properties of Carter Hall without the bad properties. It also has a bit more dimension and is just overall a much higher quality of tobacco. Thanks for sharing, and take care!
Good Evening 😊 Oh Yeah Carter Hall Gets a Thumbs Up 👍🏼 A Cob and A Codger Blend👌🏽 Thanks For Sharing The Comparison Between Old & New 👏🏼 Great Pro's and Con's 😉 Nice Blending Tobacco 💯 Have a Great Day and Happy Smoking 🌬💨💨 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Maybe its just psychological, but I enjoy CH best in a cob. It also happens to be my wife's favorite blend for the aroma. I wouldve guessed 1Q, CB White, Eileen's Dream, etc. Nope, she likes her some Carter Hall and Prince Albert. I think Im married to a "Codgerette"???😂
Smoking burley morning pipe watching. I’m going to revisit Carter hall later and see if tastes have changed. I have a new pipe otherwise I’d probably be having capstan blue. So many things to try!👋🏻 appreciate your thoughts on it.
Ain’t seen those chicks he spoke of, but it was different back then, right? So, that’s why the chicks are missing every time I light up? Hey! Wait a minute! There ain’t no chicks swarmin’ round you neither. I do love the CH blend you sent me. It is all I’ve been smoking since receiving it. I mixed some to your specks and set it aside so it can mingle. Doesn’t look quite the same but I will let you know. Thanks.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this, but has anybody else noticed that Erik the blue collar pipe smokers channel has disappeared? I hope he and his family are well.
I had noticed that he has slowed down his posts, which is good. It is important to prioritize your family, especially when you have young kids. But I mean it looks like his channel has been deleted and all his videos are gone, that’s more what I was wondering about.
Well let me know if you find anything out! Like I said no problem in taking a break from UA-cam, just hope he is doing fine. It would be a shame to see all his great videos go the way of the artful codger!
“The chicks are back” Hilarious.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice!
Good summary. I’m going to go through Labor Day with mine and then give a summation. Thanks for sharing Pat. Happy smokes
Awesome! Can’t wait to see that!

I’m still searching for the best Burley. I hope to find it in the future but I’m not pursuing it either. Carter Hall and Granger fill the void for me.
Those are both admirable burleys. 😀
Great final review. Thanks
Thanks for watching Tim. 😇
Very interesting firearms analogy. I’m going to have to ponder this for a while.
Hahaha
Glad you’re enjoying it 😁👍🏻
Thanks for watching Steve! Hope you are doing well!
@@PaladinPiper it’s been crazy busy, but we’re ok 😆
Great recap Pat 😊👍💨💨
Thanks for watching!
Oh no! It can’t be over already.
Alas it is! But I’ll def be having it here and there going forward. :)
@@PaladinPiper I have probably had 60 or more bowls during the 12-13 weeks. I really enjoy it. And like you said the wife doesn’t mind either way.
Good thoughts about Carter Hall.

PA means pipe appeal after all. 🤩
I’ve always heard that Carter Hall is best in a cob.
Nice chat thanks for sharing.
For me that’s the truth.

Nice recap! Tend to agree with you for the most part, though I've never tried blending it!
You should try it! It literally is great in everything

Granger is eternal. 😀
Is definitely a great burley for blending!
Couldn’t agree more

Oh yeah, it brings the chicks. I smoke it just about every day. I do love the taste.
Better not bring too many chicks….you just got marrried!🤣🤣🤣🤣
I only get a touch of the bourbon in it, and that’s probably what edges it past SWR for me. I can smoke CH for hours when I’m doing yard work.
Yep. I knew some people would
Love it for the bourbon! 🥃
I agree with the cob pairing 100%👍

Proper review. can only be done after tens of bowls I guess. 👏
;)

I woul have to agree with the mechanics. The weird part is when I first had it, I loved it. Now it's flavorless to me.
Wow.
You know I haven’t tried the new stuff but I didn’t dislike it. I just prefer PA
PA does take step above this for me also
