  • For many considered the best circuit in Balkans, Serres is for sure a track that everyone from Greece should drive at least once. But the real question is... how does it stack up against some of Europe's best race tracks? Kostas goes into detail on why this small track in the middle of nowhere has been included in this trip as well as taking the time, with the MX-5 finally back on familiar grounds, to go deeper on the car's handling issues and the struggle to find that elusive ideal setup.
    OLE wouldn't be possible without the help of PB Motorsport.
    Without a doubt THE place to prepare a track car in Greece!

    Who would be crazy enough to take a 30-year old Mazda MX-5 on an epic road trip around Europe's best race tracks? We did. And since we somehow survived we can now share with you the 15 onboard videos that were the result. Nurburgring, Spa, Zandvoort, Zolder, Mugello, Imola, Dijon, Brands Hatch, Anglesey, Cadwell Park, Serres, Castelloli, Portimao, Estoril and Jarama. Check them all here: bit.ly/3ce3AjI
    Our trip wouldn't be possible without the help of many good friends and a handful of companies that have been keen to support multiple crazy OLH ideas through the years!
    We buy all our MX-5 parts through I.L. Motorsport:

    That looks like a really fun and technical track, a great place to develop the car and the driver, as you put it. It's interesting how a smaller and less glamorous circuit like this, without any epic elevation changes or F1 history, can exposure things about the car's setup that those other places might not.

      Something to take from every single outing... (assuming the driver wants to take the feedback!).
      We very often find funny how little people realize that these 2-3 seconds you are usually struggling to find in an 'easy', normal, flat track with a car you know very well would translate into literally 15-20 sec on track like the NS. Making most 'Ring lap time discussion between amateur drivers in a sense... pointless...

    Kostas, your driving came alive at home! It really shows. A lot bolder then before!

      Not that many worries when your mechanic is on the same box...
      That said clearly the overdriving didn't help lap time wise.
      A bit more restraint and a clear head would have worked wonders!

    Appreciated this video, Serres needs some extra love and the additional knowledge for this track is always welcome since you dont really see in-depth analysis on it. Hope to go there soon and experience it aswell. Can't wait to see you sort the MX5 out for SRC and get that 1.27! Much love from a fellow athenian 😄

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  4 роки тому

      A 1:27 was definitely within reach but the car didn't exactly co-operate!
      No complaints though because it pushed us to improve it to some key areas.
      Hopefully in the future we get to see how much more time is there...

    Love the videos Kostas, keep them coming. Also, i just realized you didn't have a rollcage in your car. Any plans on installing?

    • @BrianSuero
      @BrianSuero 4 роки тому

      I thought the same but it does have a roll car. difficult to spot.

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  4 роки тому

      The car indeed has a roll bar and for as long as it stays a dual-use car (on this trip alone the car did 20.000 km on the road) that will probably not change.
      Too little space in a Miata to daily drive it with a cage and no helmet.

    The name and reputation of a track really doesn't matter........it is what the track gives you in both enjoyment and in the challenge. Serres does this for you. No more needs to be said.
    (Except that we could all do with a friend like Bill!)

    What tires do you recommend for track day I've been looking at 200 treadwear tires

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  4 роки тому

      It has to do with local availability, power level and wheel choices.
      European options are quite limited while for example in the US the range is much bigger.

    What Up OLH Road Warriors!
    (Europe 👊! )
    Edit: So, several issues...
    1.) Legitimate aero...stick your front DOWN!
    2.) Maybe change your rear axle ratio to take more advantage of power & torque...
    3.) Above and beyond your hubs affecting your braking...maybe add a brake proportioning valve so you can easily adjust circuit to circuit...
    Great update! 👊
    Edit: Opinions are like *ss-holes, everyone has one...not my car, not my money...but plenty of expensive ideas (laughing),
    I'll shut the h*ll up now! 👊

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  4 роки тому +1

      We do appreciate all feedback. Our budget might be limited but we are already at it!
      (Unfortunately we have to take it... one at a time!)
      Balanced aero package is definitely in the list. Bigger 17in wheels and tires addressed already some of the traction issues.
      As far as FGR goes we have two different options already. Some more investigation is needed to the brakes problem.
