  • Most members of the St Luke’s Community History Group survived the London Blitz, they were then involved in rebuilding post-war Britain. Today they remain some of the last citizens to call themselves Finsbury People. Lost to local government reorganisation in 1965 Finsbury was a proud and thriving London Borough with a mainly socialist council. Finsbury led with innovative social housing schemes and created the first purpose-built health centre in Britain long before the National Health was established. This documentary explores community, identity and belonging with unusual intimacy as our group graphically describe their experiences of the Blitz and post war lives. The group also reveal their feelings as the last generation of Finsbury people: the engagement of our elders in society is a contemporary theme, the example of this remarkable group will be an inspiration to all.
