Wanted to come back here and comment that as of tonight I actually did it, I beat Ninja Gaiden 3. It has to be hands down the hardest game I've ever played. By the time I beat it, I didn't even use a single continue, as I invested so much time in to it that I knew it like the back of my hand (the extra lives trick in level 6 is definitely a huge help heading into 7). This is my fave NG game. Good video, I really enjoyed the illustrations on the left, I liked the way they connect different parts of each stage. For some reason when I was little I was kinda obsessed with the lore of this game, the bio-noids etc, and I have always wanted to know more.
I absolutely agree with you, because this game is definitely on my personal top 100 NES games. I recall it being fun to play and I definitely recall having to deal with the challenges that the NES is notorious for in this game every single time!
Great video as always! I played and beat all three Ninja Gaiden games as a kid and I always found NG 3 not as hard as NG 1 was. I agree with you that NG 2 is the best in the series. Another option for those who want to play the 'easier' version of NG 3 is to play the NG Trilogy on the SNES. That version uses the easier Japanese version of the game.

Great video! Well played.. 1:00 “If you think the Ninja Gaiden series is intimidating, you might want to give this a try..” Xbox/PlayStation Ninja Gaiden series: Excuse me????
Ninja Gaiden 3 has some awesome music and graphics (especially considering its on the NES) but as far as which game is the best, I think I'm with you. Ninja Gaiden 2 is just so much fun and the story dovetails perfectly with the first game. You get a satisfying ending, the big bad defeated, get the girl, avenge your father, bring honor to your clan, and save the world. Doesn't get much better than that. Really impressive playthrough on the hardest game in the series. Can't wait for next week's episode. I'm really hoping some day you'll play through Capcom's Sweet Home. Maybe you're saving it for Halloween?
As always, great video! This being one of my unconquerable phantoms from childhood, it's great to see it dissected by an expert. Loved the light ribbing of the story. While it was much grander in scope than the previous games, it was definitely goofier and ripe for poking.
So Ryu may be a great warrior and a survivor, but he's terrible at being a Ninja. He lets people sneak up on him all the time, he announces his presence by shouting at the top of his lungs, and falls for trap doors time and time again. XD Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Jokes aside, I really appreciate your rock-solid (Castle Rock solid? Badum tshhhhh) consistent uploads, interesting history lessons behind every game, and of course, your impeccable playthroughs. Thank you.
Awesome video as always, I love this trilogy, I played 1 & 2 so much that I almost memorize every move and finish them, but in this one I never was able to go further of level 4
I was finally able to beat this game! I don’t even feel bad about using the 99 continues code this game is one of the hardest NES games I’ve ever played.
The only one of the three I could never beat without cheating. Thanks for the vindication! Also, is it just me, or does the dimensional warship look a lot like Jashin?
I was proud of myself for playing this game when I was young. But after watching this amazing video and great work I found that I bit the Japanese version not the US version. Anyway, thank you for such a hard work and amazing descriptions.
The reboot series has its good points, but this trilogy IS Ninja Gaiden. Some of the best, most brutal, and satisfying action platforming of the era. Nothing quite beats that feeling when you finish these three titles. Top quality shit. Love it!
This takes me back to weekday mornings before school, hell even before dad hadda be in (6am), when you'd catch this as a challenge, along with Castlevania and Bayou Billy as well I'm sure, on Video Power. Man growing up in the 80s was a gamers fortune.
Got this for Xmas in (I believe) 1991! Or maybe it was Battletoads.... One was '91, one was '92...... Didn't own NG I or II until 2000 so I had a head start with this one. My record is about 30 minutes, even with continuing twice. Got rid of most of my games in 2010, the Ninja Gaiden trilogy were 3 of them, recently found II again. Still have the box and innards, if I could just find the game again....... Great stuff, thanks!
Finally! Been waiting for this one! II was my absolute favorite of the series, but this and the first one are still "fun" to play. I had this one and 2, and the Trilogy re-release on SNES, but that one wasn't as good because they took away the moving backgrounds in certain stages. The Finl stage was always tough as sometimes I'd be running out of time when I got to the final boss.
My favorite game of the 3. Maybe I'm in the minority on this one but I think the order of difficulty of the trilogy (most difficult to least) would be 1, 2, and 3. The last 2 are close contenders for me. Back when I rented this, I thought it was much harder than the other 2 because of the limited number of continues. I only beat the other 2 (back then) because I was stubborn. I prided myself on beating every game I rented. Didn't happen this time.
I love this game! I never knew the stage 6 boss was Foster himself. I always thought that was Ryu's clone trying to survive the battle and transformed into new super monster.
In the Wikipedia page for Ninja Gaiden 3-The Ancient Ship of Doom that actually is the Bio-Noid that Ryu fought in Chapter 5 and now transmutated with the life energy for another battle with Ryu.
Personally, I find this game to be the easiest of the original trilogy. There's one main reason for that: the enemies do not respawn. Therefore you can learn where all the enemies are at and devise a plan to tackle each obstacle. No continue code needed plus it's easy to get extra lives for that last gauntlet.
Good lord you people post quick! OK, time to settle in and close another small part of my childhood trauma of video games kicking my ass by watching it FINALLY be beaten in front of my by the guy that's become my favorite UA-camr (and I ain't blowing smoke there either). ANYWAY, time to watch. See you all in 1 hour 2 minutes and 44 seconds! EDIT: Aslo, E.V.O.: Search for Eden when UCBVG? ;) Don't think I've forgoten. >:)
@@thecunninlynguist If the reply he gave me a few video's/community posts ago are any indication, then I think we can get as complete of a walkthru as possable. Heck, if I was more knowledgeable on the game I'd help him where I could, cos there is SO much hidden away that tthe game never fills u in on. Or if it does, it's VERY obscure/hidden in some random NPC interation IIRC.
I always found this to be the fairest of the trilogy. Limited continues are punishing, but the game's much more balanced and well programmed. You get more items, one ups are well placed, enemies don't endlessly respawn like the other two, etc. Even the bird enemies, which were the bane of my existence, have now been redesigned to be much bigger targets, making them way easier to hit.
I remember getting this game when I was a kid and I could never get past the 3rd lvl and I would get soooooo pissed off because of it. The few times I got to the 4th lvl I'd only have like 2 lives left no continues and I'd get destroyed 😂😂😂😂. Great video as usual keep up the great work💯💯💪💪👏👏
I still own my trilogy from back then in my game library and still holds up today as the greatest trilogy on the NES. I noticed long ago the background in area 4-a1 the sky and mountains are actually upside down. I wonder how that slipped by their testers and the team? They usually are very strict and fierce when it comes to checking everything three times, but that was a bit of an oversight. Still, it's pretty cool to have found that back in 1991 when I played this.
Yup That Always Bugged Me Lol But I Loved The Music In That Level So I Got Used To It However...I Just Found Out That It Was Done That Way On Purpose The Name Of The Level Is Inverted Catwalk..

I love the Ninja Gaiden trilogy, although I found this one the easier of the three. I also remeber last time I replayed it I got to the final boss with so little time I beat it exactly at 000 timer. Thank you for making this videos, we love the work and effort you put into them.
This series was the bane of my existence as a kid
Great video! Well played..
1:00 “If you think the Ninja Gaiden series is intimidating, you might want to give this a try..”
Xbox/PlayStation Ninja Gaiden series: Excuse me????
XD Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Jokes aside, I really appreciate your rock-solid (Castle Rock solid? Badum tshhhhh) consistent uploads, interesting history lessons behind every game, and of course, your impeccable playthroughs. Thank you.
I owned this game growing up. It's an extremely difficult game! Excellent walkthough.
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing this!
Awesome video as always, I love this trilogy, I played 1 & 2 so much that I almost memorize every move and finish them, but in this one I never was able to go further of level 4
Hey great job dude! Speaking of trilogies, can't wait for that DQ3!
Love the jayz refrence
I got this game the day it came out and tried getting through it for years. I’m excited to see how anyone gets through it!
I almost forgot you uploaded today!
Thats what happens when you grow up and have to work saturdays...
But im here now!
Yes, the trilogy is complete!
This is the best 99 problems/doggo playing video games video ever.
One of my most cherished real gamer moments is finishing Gaiden III without continuing.
Man growing up in the 80s was a gamers fortune.
this one of the titles you needed a game genie for.
Those were the kind of Xmas presents you could play for an entire year!
Finally an explanation about how castles work. ;-)
The graphics for nes are stunning. Look at that final robot boss. Amazing.
Same here!!! Just commented that myself lol
This is the one i never owned, nor bothered to emulate either so ive never seen the third game.
Great vids like usual
Good lord you people post quick! OK, time to settle in and close another small part of my childhood trauma of video games kicking my ass by watching it FINALLY be beaten in front of my by the guy that's become my favorite UA-camr (and I ain't blowing smoke there either). ANYWAY, time to watch. See you all in 1 hour 2 minutes and 44 seconds!
EDIT: Aslo, E.V.O.: Search for Eden when UCBVG? ;) Don't think I've forgoten. >:)
EVO would be epic...wonder if he'd go out of his way to show all possible evolutions
Or if it does, it's VERY obscure/hidden in some random NPC interation IIRC.
your guides are great. thx for all the effort you put in
Love your content man! Do Sweet Home!
Great video as usual keep up the great work💯💯💪💪👏👏
One of my top 20 games of all time
The day has finally come!
My favorite part is always “what if I told you…”
At 20:43 you could use the invincible fire wheel before picking up the ninpo points. You'd have another activation possible after picking up the scroll to extend your points.
In the beginning, when he shows 9 nes cartridges. Those are like my most favorite games!
Awesome video! Love this trilogy
