Episode 92
Ninja Gaiden III The Ancient Ship of Doom is the hardest game in what is almost certainly the most difficult trilogy for the NES! Not only does this game demand fast reflexes, but this time you only get FIVE Continues before its Game Over.
So you may be surprised to find out that when developer Tecmo released the original Japanese version, titled Ninja Ryukenden III, it was actually the easiest game in the series. So instead of just translating the text to English, the North American version got a massive overhaul!
So what happened that made Ninja Gaiden 3 so challenging, and how do we beat such a difficult game? In today's episode we'll find out, then we'll dive deep in to the gameplay where we'll learn:
* How to complete EVERY Act and Stage!
* SECRET TRICKS to gain INFINITE LIVES!
* ALL CUTSCENES are included - Enjoy the story as you watch!
* A SECRET CODE to get 99 CONTINUES - Never run out again!
* Techniques to DESPAWN dangerous enemies!
* The best NINPO MAGIC for every situation!
* EASY Strategies for EVERY BOSS, even the FINAL DEMON himself... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

I love how you acknowledge when a strategy might be cheesy and replay the level to show another way to beat it. You're keeping yourself honest _and_ demonstrating how well you can play some very difficult games. Keep it up! The 100K subscriber mark is in sight!
Yeah this guy is a Jedi. I haven't managed to beat NG3 once, while he's over here beating it six different ways lol
Dios MIO, this game bring back trauma.
I recall ONE time beating this game as a kid. Took a few tries and finally beat the last boss in his last phase with the last bar of health on the last life of the last continue.
It's truly remarkable just how beautiful those cutscenes are - I had forgotten that it was capable of something like what's on display. Genuises, all of 'em!
Dude, your skill in video games needs to be acknowledged. Your "casual strats" show so much skill. It looks easy when you're doing it but it definitely isn't.
PLEASE do Demon's Crest for SNES one day.
This channel is really hitting the spot for video game content.
It’s like a “show” that I could see on G4TV back when they had Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb on XPlay.
The nostalgia i get from this channel, is simply amazing.
You are seriously living the dream my brother.
Honestly, i get the feel watching, that the host and i would have been good buddies coming up.
Kindred spirits, who lived in an electronic wonderland.
Mom and dad were great, but we value the memories created when we fantasized about, fantasy
Getting lost in other worlds.
Besting challenges we valued among ourselves
Thanks again brother
Yeah man, I often do think of it as living the dream! Sometimes its a lot of work putting these together, but its also fun.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames i feel you, its still work, but theres a feeling when you enjoy what you do, and it doesnt make it work so much.
I enjoy my job, so i dont envy you too much, buf damn, i envy you slightly.
Someone had to do it, and you do it with style.
Hats off brother.
@U Can Beat Video Games I got a,challenge for you.Dr Jekyll Mr hyde.but, hope u eventually cover more modern games too.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames: *THREE OR MORE?!?!?* Dawg, 6 × 3 is 18, so of course with only 16 bars of health you're dead after 3!!

Ryu: "So that's your real form. I might have known!"
Every video, this commentary just hits right for having a chill session from work and duties. The background introes are great, and always amazing editing.
The moment you said "Let's get started" is where the ad starts by rickrolling me.
Of all the games you’ve done here this is probably the video I stand the best chance of knowing most of it (except the final boss) going in.
11 year old me wanted nothing more than this game for my birthday, and I got it. I played the HELL out of this, but younger me just couldn’t top the final boss. Decades later through emulation and save states I eventually did, but when I was a wee lad that bastard always had my number.
I love this game, the story, the graphics, the music. Looking forward to watching this later.
Thanks for sharing home slice. I, like a good number in the 90's , appreciate the sentiment and nostalgia. I was there bro. Games too hard for my little dumbness. But now.. (now i still cry playing super metroid again no help) I'm happily revisiting challenges from my young gamer years.
it's funny that you say that a lot of people had problems with the final boss in this game I was pretty much the only kid at school that could beat it and you know how kids are so I had to prove it to then that way they can see how it was done I loved all three of these games the original Dark Souls
That boss isn't Foster, it's the clone, trying one ,more time in a new body. Foster simply disappears, likely ganked by the first demon he met
That's the Bio-Noid that Ryu defeats in Chapter 5. Foster died when he chase after Clancy and the life energy torn him into pieces.
I love the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy. It's sad the 3D reboot took a totally different direction (most importantly, lost its horror vibes). "The Messenger" is the spiritual successor we fans deserved.
I absolutely LOVED The Messenger. Highly recommend to anyone reading this!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames yeah, it's not just one of the best RETRO games ever made. It's easily in my top 10 favorite games of all times. Same goes with its soundtrack. A masterpiece.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Agree, it's my favorite game to Nintendo Switch period, they did everything right.
I think Oniken was much closer to the original Ninja Gaiden feel, Messenger wasn't bad but its comedic writing and metroidvania style of levels make it too different
The new 3D reboot was good in its own right.
It’s not sad, it’s just something that YOU didn’t like, which is perfectly fine and ok to not like something.
Damn son thats some good writing lol 99 problems and continues ain't one. Classic
One additional fact: Ninja Gaiden III was the final game released on the PlayChoice 10 arcade machine. It is also the rarest with only a couple known to exist.
o.O Wow, no joke? TBH, I mist have missed these in the arcades, or they ones I went to never had the games. Was it good in the Arcades?
Wow didn’t know that!
I don't think so. I'm playing it right now. Zero dollars spent.
@@moenibus same here emulator life
@@maysintv9168 I have a PlayChoice-10 in my livingroom that I enjoy. I love playing Dr. Mario on it especially.
Arcade controls feel funny for many NES games. You can find new carts that were not originally on the PlayChoice-10 like Tengen Tetris.
There is at least one video of the PlayChoice-10 version on UA-cam. Looks the exact same to me.
Punch-Out!!! in its PlayChoice-10 version has the only noticeable difference I know - it saves scores and you can input initials.
I finally caught up to your latest videos, binge-watching ALL of your channel's content up to now! It's great to absorb all of this knowledge of how to beat classic games, from start to cheesy ending.
Who has 17 thumbs and recently beat The Lone Ranger thanks to your advice? ...I don't know either, I only have two thumbs. But I still beat it!
And yes, I have beaten the entire Ninja Gaiden trilogy. I had to use Game Genie for 2 and 3, but the first was legit--with a broken D-pad, no less.
Been trying to beat this games since ima kid in the 90s, thanks to ur tutorials i already beat NG 1 and 2 several times. U really the NES sensei my man
Wanted to come back here and comment that as of tonight I actually did it, I beat Ninja Gaiden 3. It has to be hands down the hardest game I've ever played. By the time I beat it, I didn't even use a single continue, as I invested so much time in to it that I knew it like the back of my hand (the extra lives trick in level 6 is definitely a huge help heading into 7). I still can't believe I did it lol. Thank you for your tips and content, I feel like I could beat any game imaginable now lmao
Congrats ! I just beat it last week and again tonight. Quite the gaming accomplishment 👍👍
@@JBird401 Congrats to you too man! Its a gaming badge of honor for sure lol
Amazing is not the right word to describe this channel...the way you present the games is incredible..your tips became vital for me to beat the hardest games ever...thank you very much!! Cheers from Brazil
To me, this is one of the best games on Nes. I played it on famicom (japanese version) way after it was released. Incredible action, so impactful, smooth, fluid.
Story, cutscenes, music, graphics it is all there. Graphics are that mindblowing, that by just looking at it, one would think it's not even 8bit, looks like it's on PCengine. Incredible game.
Your walkthrough and praise for this game is much appreciated.
Thank you!
These Ninja Gaiden games were good!
This channel is like those Walkthrough in videogame magazine that I used to love to read but in Video form. Thanks for activating all of my nostalgia neurons man.
It doesn’t matter the game, your content is absolutely amazing. You give thousands of people a reason to get out of bed each and every Saturday: The fact you are a great dog dad just adds to the videos. Kylo and Mance are lucky to have you!
Just now finally beat this game! By far the most difficult one of the three. But what a satisfaction. Now I can put this trilogy to rest. Thanks for the awesome guide once more!
Best channel on UA-cam hands down. Already close to 100k!
"Avoid the Noid" Excellent.
Thanks for the video! I enjoy listening to the witty commentary while working. Good stuff!
dude I LOVE your channel and your work!! I always learn something new that makes me want to go back to these classics. Keep it up!
Thank You!!! I am waiting for this. Awesome work.
I still go back and rewatch some of these videos and I have to compliment you on how much the production value and writing have improved since you first started. Keep up the good work - looking forward to you hitting 100K subs!
In the beginning, when he shows 9 nes cartridges. Those are like my most favorite games!
I enjoy your history intros for these games. Really adds to the videos. Thanks
Yes! I've been waiting for this for a long time! Thank you! 🔥🔥🔥
Keep up the good work. I always know I can drop a like even before watching! Love your attitude and commentary man!
This game looks so good. The NES could pump out some great stuff.
Lol yeah, there's a reason I never had a 16bit system. I jumped from an NES to a PS1
My favorite part is always “what if I told you…”
Been watching your channel for a while keep up the good work!
This is my fave NG game. Good video, I really enjoyed the illustrations on the left, I liked the way they connect different parts of each stage. For some reason when I was little I was kinda obsessed with the lore of this game, the bio-noids etc, and I have always wanted to know more.
I really love your channel, as it's sparking my love for video games even more on my own UA-cam. And it's making me want to play Ninja Gaiden as well.
This channel takes me back to when I was the little kid and the older kids were showing me the game secrets and endings I couldnt get myself.
Thanks man.
That's a perfect explanation
Great Video. Love watching all your content. I always learn so much about my childhood games after watching.
What a game! What a channel. Outstanding as always.
your guides are great. thx for all the effort you put in
"Irene and Ryu have been reunited, but it doesn't feel so good!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing this!
This series was the bane of my existence as a kid

Just one spoonful of the cheese,

I only finished this game (the harder version) twice. The first time I was alone. The 2nd time, I have to prove to my friend that I finished it by showing it to him. It's a very hard game but the gameplay and music is so satisfying.
Another wicked cool vid from the master! Keep on keepin on man!
I found the whole "video game difficult" factoid fascinating. Great video, as usual!
Especially liked the opening/background info this week. I remember the graphics were a big deal when this came out. Not that I got to appreciate anything passed level 2. It's insane this didn't crack the 100.
100K is just around the corner!! Love the channel please keep doing what u do, your fans are with ya!!
edit: watching the gameplay and DAMN u are good. The way you progress each level with strategies for the average player is truly some ninja level skill.
Thank you!!
I've beat the 1st two several times over the years, but I have never been able to take 3 down. You have inspired me to try again.....
Awesome early video game story and awesome video! Excellent skill demonstration!
i know you've heard this enough by now but some of us are still waitin on castlevania 3 lol
Another great video. I gotta say you seem to have pretty wide array of knowledge when it comes to music as well. Love the videos!
This is the best 99 problems/doggo playing video games video ever.
Thank you for this, Mr. U Can Beat Video Games. You’ve made me proud.
Awesome video! Love this trilogy
Anazing guide!!!!!!!!!
Now the trilogy is succesfuly completed.
Thanks 🐶
As always, great video! This being one of my unconquerable phantoms from childhood, it's great to see it dissected by an expert.
Loved the light ribbing of the story. While it was much grander in scope than the previous games, it was definitely goofier and ripe for poking.
I absolutely agree with you, because this game is definitely on my personal top 100 NES games. I recall it being fun to play and I definitely recall having to deal with the challenges that the NES is notorious for in this game every single time!
I NEVER knew about this 99 continue cheat code! I was just asking myself what differentiates this channel from other “let’s plays” and you keep giving me answers as to how. You rock!
ya good luck trying to get the cheat to actually work
@@findlaycurtis Is it one of those codes that require lightning fast reflexes?
I love the references to the old Domino's ad campaign, lol
Super great editing bro, especially the guide on the left side
Love your content man! Do Sweet Home!
i liked how part 3 finally showed you what powerup you'd get...growing up, if I didn't have the nintendo power or guide playing the first 2, I'd always hate getting a different powerup cause we instinctively slash everything to collect more ninjetti (or whatever it's called)
Heheheh, Ninjetti. I like that name for it. :D I remember my mum just used to call it "Ninja Juice". Nowdays tho, she knows much better.
Love you bro thanks for this
Hey great job dude! Speaking of trilogies, can't wait for that DQ3!
The day has finally come!
oOoOO my goodness. This game you decided to tackle. Ninja Gaiden III is crazy difficult. Only ever beat it once in life. You are definitely a hardcore gamer to even want to tackle this game with precision like this. To think you barely didn't use a continue is unfathomable. Your skills are surreal
I owned this game growing up. It's an extremely difficult game! Excellent walkthough.
Dammit. You got me with the Noid reference. XD haha!
Awesome!
I love the Ninja Gaiden trilogy, although I found this one the easier of the three. I also remeber last time I replayed it I got to the final boss with so little time I beat it exactly at 000 timer. Thank you for making this videos, we love the work and effort you put into them.
Ninja Gaiden invented "Git gud"
I almost forgot you uploaded today!
Thats what happens when you grow up and have to work saturdays...
But im here now!
such a good channel
42:20 There’s a debate on this but some say it’s the Ryu Bio-Noid and others say it’s Foster
I remember getting this game when I was a kid and I could never get past the 3rd lvl and I would get soooooo pissed off because of it. The few times I got to the 4th lvl I'd only have like 2 lives left no continues and I'd get destroyed 😂😂😂😂. Great video as usual keep up the great work💯💯💪💪👏👏
I love the rainbow HUD!
The graphics for nes are stunning. Look at that final robot boss. Amazing.
When I was a kid the music always reminded me of the Ultimate Warrior's theme song but sped up a lot lol.
36:56 see what you did there Ryu-nited LOL
Awesome video as always, I love this trilogy, I played 1 & 2 so much that I almost memorize every move and finish them, but in this one I never was able to go further of level 4
This takes me back to weekday mornings before school, hell even before dad hadda be in (6am), when you'd catch this as a challenge, along with Castlevania and Bayou Billy as well I'm sure, on Video Power. Man growing up in the 80s was a gamers fortune.
I was proud of myself for playing this game when I was young. But after watching this amazing video and great work I found that I bit the Japanese version not the US version. Anyway, thank you for such a hard work and amazing descriptions.
this one of the titles you needed a game genie for.
I can't believe that you didn't mention that ONE windmill throwing star will blow the face of the final boss off instantly.
Well, no worries. Still another awesome vid by you!
Fantastic!
Donkey kong country got some love!
Surely this channel ranks among humanity's greatest achievements.
Ha ha! Thank you!
29:24 Ryu rides a mountain peak to the right LOL
Lol at 99 problems reference 🤣🤣
I got this game the day it came out and tried getting through it for years. I’m excited to see how anyone gets through it!
Finally an explanation about how castles work. ;-)
It seems like everyone says this is the hardest one from the series but it's the only one I could beat as a kid! Heck I still can't even beat the 1st 2 unless I'm using save states! But I love this game so much!
Thank you!
Look at these fucking graphics. Better then most retro games today.
25:05 this theme is awesome
