Had the pleasure of meeting two of these guys and my uncle now in his 60s also went on selection only to be removed because of shin splints towards the latter end of the course I could never do what these guys do have nothing but respect the two who did make it through are so humble about it it’s unreal rip MAC thank you for your service.
My grandad served during the Second World War in the Pacific with you Aussies. He said you guys would go to the wall for us Brits, he had nothing but the utmost respect

John Macaleese had a very tough childhood and upbringing deprived even ...yet he passed the toughest test the British army if not the world has to offer to become a SAS soldier and went on to serve with distinction ....why is it that those kids today who have very tough lives and childhoods choose apathy , sitting on their arses on the dole , smoking weed and playing on their X boxes all day , turn to crime etc and complain about "poor them " we have no youth clubs , no prospects etc ??? it really is all about attitude and mindset and nothing to do with your personal poor circumstances and John Macalleese and many like him in the armed forces are living proof of that .

On the very day he died, all his kit was packed in Afghan for selection. He never needed to go out of the FOB on that fateful patrol. MAC was waiting for his son in Hereford the day after to start selection. Like father like son both fucking hard legends. Mac died of a broken heart and took to the bottle that’s why he passed on dying of a heart attack. Sad, but reunited in heaven with his lad. RIP

My father Andrew P from Dorset went for SAS selection and failed, just came back from a 50 mile forced march and told to bivvy down till the morning.., 15 mins later they were told to get out and were doing another 50 mile.., my dad said fuck it and slept on.., those who went out were told to get back to bed and those who didnt come out were RTU'd.
