🔥 MY SUGGESTED TOOLS FOR STARTING TO CRAFT LEATHER ARMOR 🔥
💲 bit.ly/ShopTandy Tandy Supplies 💲
💲 3048-00 Craftool Leather Shears - This is one of the more spendy items but I used these for every project and highly recommend them.
💲 3300-04 - Rawhide Mallet (Large) - Good starter mallet, might be a little heavy for some beginners but useful when needing to set rivets or punch holes.
💲 3300-03 - Rawhide Mallet (Medium) - Also a good starter mallet, will make it easier to do repetitive tooling and stamping
💲 3302-00 - Craftool Poly Maul - I prefer mauls myself these days, but mallets are easy to recommend to beginners since they feel more like using a regular hammer.
💲 8002-01 - Easy Comfort Swivel Knife - Very cheap starter swivel knife, it'll get the job done, once you get the hang of it and learn blade maintenance of course.
💲 32228-00 - Deluxe Quartz Tooling Slab 12" x 12" - Great starter slab, I still use these in my shop to this day.
💲 3003-00 Mini Leather Punch Set - For punching holes of various sizes.
You will also need small quantities of dyes, finishes, hardware along the way but there are a lot of projects you can do, and get a lot of solid practice, using just leather and the tools listed here.

About the narrator: Hi! 🙋♂️I'm Samuel Lee, and I am an artisan specializing in Custom Fantasy Leather Armor who has been crafting arms and armour under the Prince Armory banner for more than a decade. I focus on crafting one of a kind extravagant custom projects with intricate leather tooling for my clients who use them for larp, Renaissance Festivals, Cosplay, Costume Contests, and Private Collections.
I'm just now getting into producing content for larger audiences so bear with me as I gradually divide my time more evenly between custom work and making videos and other content for everyone.
Greetings once again! So much more content to come, what would you like to see the most? More tutorials? Project builds and vlogs from custom works? Tips and guides? Other? Let me know!
Prince Armory YES to all sir! I have been smithing for a few years and at some point I hope to make a armor set for myself. But I may change directions and attempt the leather path. Thank you for starting these tutorials, tips etc! So again yes to all! 😂
I'd be really interested to see a tutorial on building a piece to cover a joint like a knee, elbow, or shoulder. Love your work!
Articulations for knees and elbows will be a more advanced topic I'll get to a little later on.
Definitely tutorials with patterns. The low price of a tutorial pattern is totally what will help me overcome fear of failure.
Definitely would like to see tutorials and work in progress videos for whatever builds you're working on!
Those armor sets are so mind blowing. They craftsmanship and design work is insane. Never seen anything so amazing.
Thank you very much
You're work is absolutley amazing. Keep it up. Cant wait to see what you do next.
Love your channel you make this type of thing exciting.
Your work is just amazing!
absolutely amazing...nothing short of brilliant.

You have so many imagine things! Big respect!
Well I can see where I'll be spending my time for the foreseeable future. Amazing work!
Wow, unbelievable. Absolutely amazing work!
Magnifique et incroyable travail. Bravo 👍
Awesome!!! Thanks for introducing new crafters to leather work as it like a lot these historic trades and techniques are disappearing.
Very cool stuff! Subbed!
I love what you're doing, could you ever make a longer vid about how you came up with the concept, and the design planing. I am a beginner at this but love what I am seeing. thank you for your time.
Amazing! Project builds and tutorials for sure.
Definitely!
HOLY CRAFT!!!!

Yep, any day now!
Love your work and tutorials, I'd say while drooling over tools is fun and makes you look forward to your next purchase the big money sink in the beginning is good quality leather to practice and work with
Thanks for the video leather sensei!
Hai!
Great video! Please, keep them coming. I have been looking for a while and your videos and channel are by far the most informative in my opinion.
Thank you!
thank you
Just went to my first Ren Fair in Muskogee, Ok. I've been wanting to get into leather crafting for a while and just recently bought some basic stuff. I was only going to pick up the skill as an aside to my woodworking and metal art. This will definitely be a skill I hone to much higher level than I had previously anticipated. Thanks for the video and inspiration. Subbed and liked sir. Well done.
As if drooling over your work wasnt enough.. your intro/outro clip is god damned gorgeous as well!
Thank you!
I've been following your armor designs on Facebook for a while and I'm so glad you've decided to start a UA-cam channel. I look forward to more of your videos
Thanks, I've got lots planned!
Been a fan of your work for a long time, I think the first thing I saw was the full Ironman suit.
Since then I've been getting hooked on leatherwork craft and videos. (Haven't made the leap to start just yet though.)
Tutorials would be great to see, from beginner up to expert methods. Other things like a time-lapse of projects with narration talking about aspects of the build would be great to see too.
Very goooooood
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Your work is amazing and helpful. I love seeing videos for beginners because we can all learn something new 💜
Thank you!
you have a good voice, and obviously a very nice audio setup. Kudos.
Excellent. New subscriber lovin' your work & channel

Much more coming soon!
I would love to see a video on working with basic tools, those really inspire me and many other beginners!
The tutorials I'm doing are actually using very basic tools
OH BOY, is this a new "Clickspring" channel for me??? very very cool. Thanks UA-cam suggestions for finally getting things right!
Thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks!
I have admired your work for years. Your armor is part of the reason I got into leatherwork. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am eager to learn more from a master craftsman!
Do you use horse hair for your helmet plumes? How do you set it and from where do you source it? Also, fit is a problem for me. I’m always making something either too big or too small, never seems “just right.” Thank you!
damn I just came across this page yesterday and I'm looking at your work and OMG this is some really cool stuff
Thanks!
Wow, that’s a radical helmet/mask, it was beautifully designed... That makes me want to get my tools back out and go for it...
Go for it!
wow, impressive...
I make a lot of fantasy battle ready blades so I can’t wait to start making this sick armor
Very cool!
Bought my first leather and tool after watching your last one!! just waiting on shipment then ready to craft!
Awesome, best of luck on your journey!
All Hail Goblin Prince Azmal, I have been following your work for many years , it it has gone form absolutely awesome to so incredibly outstanding, there are few words to describe the complexity and beauty they represent. you have peaked my interest and will be attempting to do the helmet, I can guarantee it will not be as nice as yours but it will be a start to a long and satisfying hobby, Thank you.
Thanks for sticking with me about 15 years lol
i use to see your videos to learn, i have being working with leather the most of my life (family bussines, factory no hand made) but i found on you a good master to add neew tecnics to my own work, i have to tell you, this is maybe the best video i saw from you and i have to say thank you, you are an example for a lot of people like me and obviously, a good master, coping some of yours desings i could put on practise a lot of new tecnics and new proyect all by hand made, wich i love, thank you again (sorry for my english)
Thank you very much!
I was surprised to find that there’s a tandy leather store really close to where I live! I’m definitely going to go there soon so I can get myself some tools to start with!
I’m a cosplayer, and I’ve been really interested in making more realistic armour, so leatherwork seems like it would be way more fun and bring a way nicer end product than foam!
Anyway, this is a very helpful video, thank you!
Or watch this guy be dope and teach you a lot of solid tutorials!
a video on how you do the horns would be great
Thank you for such a great video.... As for future versions..... How to reproduce consistently a specific color or dye of a leather piece and how to seal it properly, is a huge interest for myself....
Yeah I can expand upon that at some point.
Could you do a video of what you would buy for say £500. As a starter budget. That's kinda my budget. Thank you for the inspiration. Incredible work.
I consider myself a maker using many different mediums for crafting ...but I have just fallen in love with leather working. I've only just seen your videos and I cant wait to start my first project. Any suggestions for a good starter project?
I know I'm going to love ur channel, don't leave lol
Just getting started!
Tandy is awesome
I have my materials and im only starting with simple projects, but soon i will be able to make my very own set of leather armor
Sounds like you're off to a good start, Congrats!
I wish I had gotten into leather craft when I was young ,I'm 51 now and I started 10 years ago with knife sheaths and gun holster ,now I'm ready to try armour,
haha nice, glad to see you giving it a go, hope you enjoy it!
Absolutely beautiful! I must have that pattern! Can this technique be carried over to HD (high density) foam or EVA foam? 🤔
Can you please make a video of most important tools for a starter and the uses of those
I've been Leatherworking for a few years, but I've never made armor. Really looking forward to your future videos.
Hope you'll give it a shot!
@@Princearmory I definitely will be. I downloaded the fantasy helmet pattern and I am going to give that a go.
I love your work and i look forward to seeing your stuff. Pls keep this going
A minor suggestion for future vids is to show the tools that you are talking about. It will help ppl identify the tool you are talking about.
I did edit the video to match the dialogue. I do not have video of every tool I have used in the past however so I had to improvise slightly and did list relevant tools in the description. If I missed anything just ask and I'll look it up.
@@Princearmory Don't worry to much, still love your work
Great job yet again. I feel like you may have pegged me at the end.
Watched many videos but haven't started yet.
The tool list is a big help.
Has your interest ever taken you into the tanning department?
Or you more just finished product?
Either way thumbs up, can't wait for more.
haha thanks.
GONA BE A LEVEL 200 PARAGON IN NO TIME WITH THIS!!!
Waiting on your next tutorial.
Just a few more days most likely!
awesome video!! i was wondering with veg tan leather.. do you always etch and stamp before dyeing the leather.. or can you dye the leather first.. does it really matter? Thanks!
Just to let you know, I'm looking forward to a low budget tutorial. I'm really thinking about starting this summer. Just don't have the money :p
It doesn't cost a lot to get started.
You mentioned at 1:20 ish that you might do a video about getting started with leather on a tight budget if there was interest. I'd definitely be interested as well! I'd love to craft some of these pieces but have to budget very carefully.
Will this helmet be available on your website 🤔☺️
Could you make some tutorials on swivel knives exercises. Just a thought.
That's tandys Fort worth store. I go there frequently
What did you use to dye and finish the helmet shown towards the end of the video? It's gorgeous.
You gotta love how "recreational combat" is a thing. Let's hit each other for fun!😂
Love the tutorials... My question would be what do you use to print your patterns?
The patterns I will be sharing with everyone can be printed on standard printer paper
I would love to see how to make something with basic inexpensive tools.
If we get a few more requests for this I can see about doing a vid like this using tools any typical person might already have.
Wow
That mask is sick as hell!
I would love to know how you did the eye insets
I have found that leathercraft on a budget forces you to be creative about how and what you use
Do they make a table mounted shear for cutting leather like they have for cutting sheet metal?
Punches from Harbor Freight are cheap and countertop shops will often give you a piece of sink cutout.
Those armors are ridiculous! They look like something world-first raiders would have.
Please put up a pattern for the helmet at 6:33 in this video. I would really love to make that one
Hello! Beautiful work and really nice and inspirational video. If I can suggest something I would like to see on youtube it would be a tutorial on how to make nice and comfortable leather bracers. Maybe some tips for design and decorating. It should be a great way to start crafting armour but I don't see any videos on youtube that are up to your quality. And can I use really thin leather for something? Can I just layer it? :-)
Looking forward to seeing your next videos!
The bracer video ant pattern will be up within a few days actually.
@@Princearmory Awesome :-)
Which is the best way to store the veg tanned?
Did you make the video about doing it on a budget
The quality of your work is outstanding. The attention to detail is admirable.
I notice you support Tandy and I currently use them as well. However, do you buy your leather from them? My last hide of 8-10oz leather from them was from some random tannery in Brazil and the quality was quite average. I believe I got what I paid for though and as a beginner that was perfect for me. I wish they stocked stuff from Tanneries in America. And maybe they do in some locations. Being from Texas, I find it hard to believe that I can't find a more local source, despite our insane amount of cattle here.
Any recommendations for purchasing high quality tooling leather?
Well the advantage of Tandy (or any local supplier) is being able to walk in and pick out a hide you want. Learning which hide will work for what purpose is a developed skill but you don't have to worry too much about that in the beginning. You're not putting out a top shelf premium product straight out of the gate so relish the more affordable beginner time where its still fine to make mistakes you can learn from.
