I loved hiring former military people. Pretty much all of them had superior intelligence, leadership skills, work ethic and maturity. My son served 12 years in the Marines (aviation), still serves in the Navy reserves and flys for Delta. Wish the medical community had that kind of training… would be much safer healthcare. Thanks for the good video. Semper Fi.

I never understand why people say that “only dumb people join the Military.” People that want a steady income joins the Military, especially with inflation going on. People that want to go to college without paying out of pocket join the Military. Most of all, people that want free medical care join the Military. Also, college is honestly a waste of time depending on the major. Trade school is where it’s at. I’m currently in the Military as a SGT trying to pick up as SSG and will be going Warrant at some point during my career, so I’m living comfortably right now financially.

Yeah cuz you got Sgt pay, not dogshit E-1 to E-3 pay. 1,200-1,600 a month, even with free housing, means I was barely scrapping by when I was in. Shits expensive, and the government pays you pennies on the hour even if it's a 24hrs per day and 7 days a week kinda hourly wage.

@@QockNobblrbut he started out as an E-1 and studied and advanced to E-6. When you are in the military you prepare for the next advancement cycle and become proficient at your job. That's how you advance and get higher pay. Never rest on your laurels. That is the difference between a good soldier and one just riding out their enlistment.

I got out of the Navy after 6 years and started college right after. In the military, you absolutely have to learn and understand your job and what you are being trained/taught on. Now as a college student, I can't tell how many classes have online quizzes and tests with all the answers that can be found on quizlet.

Currently a Junior in HS. I’m looking to enlist, took the practice ASVAB with the recruiter and scored a 57, majority of the stuff on the test I haven’t seen in years, I have a 4.2 GPA and found it hard. Been studying even more to prepare for the ASVAB next week. Schools don’t teach essentials anymore, all my classmates who are going to colleges only do it for parties and because they think it will unlock life for them. College isn’t what people think it is. Military is underrated with how many doors it opens.

I have a friend who obtained his Masters's degree as an E3. The military paid for most of it (TA)! I got out a year ago and now that I'm older I have a pretty good idea of what career path I am taking and get paid to go to school. I also applied for VR&E (VA program) and got accepted so now I got an extension for my education benefits and will be able to obtain a Master's degree in the future with no out-of-pocket expenses. Joining the military gave me the affordability of attending college. I would have ended up in a low-income career if I did not join so it was the best decision I've made in my life! You get out of it what you put into it.

I've been in the military for 11 years now and have encountered all the branches! You're going to have smart people, dumb people, and anything in between. I've met 0311 Marines that are legit geniuses and Space Force systems operators that are absolute idiots. The military is so collectively large that you're going to get a little bit of everything, and people fail to realize that.

I think it’s complete opposite the military is what you can make of it. I honestly see a lot of articulate intelligent service members. The military teaches you how to speak professionally which is an important skill. Knowing your regs can teach you in the outside world because you understand policy. A lot of skills that can be translated. Job training is another one. Problem I think is leadership doesn’t utilizes the skills soldiers have and want us to sit around waiting for things or just do some online courses.

I went to college after the military and I can say that a lot of my friends wouldn’t have even made it through my A-School with their study habits. I guess I was so dumb that I joined and later attended a 20k a semester private university and graduated with no debt and was able to combine the hard and soft skills I got from my military experience with that overpriced piece of paper and landed a decent job before I even graduated again with no debt. I guess I could have just gone to college and graduated with a degree that may or may not get me a halfway decent job out of school carrying around 150k in debt.

Gotta agree with what you said about the test. I tried some practice ASVAB tests online and I was utterly stumped on an algebraic problem about Tom Larry and Debbie who all had different ages, but only gave the disparities and no actual ages. Something like "Tom is 10 years older than Deb, and Deb is 5 years younger than Larry. Larry is 2 years younger than Tom. How old is Deb?"
I never solved problem like that even in HS. And I was decent at math.

I joined the Corps because my Dad decided to become a missionary when I was about 10. I would learn well into my 50’s (and after he’d died) that my sister was my half-sister. But that’s another story- long story short, 7 different schools before I “graduated” from high school in Uruguay and with limited options upon returning to the states and being told my family would soon be leaving for Paraguay, I sat down with a recruiter in the Summer of ‘82 in Columbus Georgia and needing a place to live, signed the dotted line. The best decision I could possibly make at the time. My family left the states around the same time I left for Barracks Duty in the UK, ultimately, I would find myself in the FMF at Lejeune with India Co. 3/4 and the (then) 26th. MAU. I take great pride in my Marine Corps experience and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I admit I’m not the smartest when it comes to schooling but the Corps taught me how to be an honorable and disciplined human being and I think that carries a lot of weight when it comes to survival in a world that just seems to get uglier by the day. "Only stupid people enlist" That's exactly what I said to my sister when she (an Army major) asked me if I thought about enlisting after I dropped out of collage.
She responded by saying "That's not true but even if it was. That is why I want you to join. Because I know you are smart and good, and that is how you make an organization, even the military, smart and good. By filling it with people like you."
A year later I was a journalist (Mass Communications Specialist) in the Navy. Did 5 years and It was the best thing I ever did. I made second class petty officer and still have a little regret about leaving. If you don't know what you want to do with your life the military may teach what it is you want. But what it will definitely do is teach you what you don't want to do.
I still use my sisters lesson in my current work at a non-profit. When good people get frustrated or think things are not changing for the better. I tell them, "Things will only get better with you here making them better."
In the end the Military is only as dumb as we make it and trust me we are doing a pretty good job of filling it with smart people.

Well, the answer is simple, why wealthier people doesn't join the military? Maybe because they have the opportunity of making more money on something else, like an college degree. However, If you're low on cash, and want into the military for some income, maybe losing an arm, an leg, an eye, even your life, or to handle a Jeffrey Dahmer while you sleep can be worth somethig, it's both job and regular payment guaranteed, just follow the rules. But, if your self -preservation instinct speaks louder, even though you still have the disavantage of being poor, it would be best 4 u to follow your self-preservation instinct, because you already knows that no one gives a damn about you anyaways, LOL, cuz if anyone did, you wouldn't be desperatly asking for money.
