ahhhhh.... so sorry to hear about the tree.... awful! So glad you did backups though! And yes, even with backups iv learned a few things.... Iv used Retrospect for over 20 years.... great incremental backup!!!!!! RAID and Clone! Orig. was CDR, then DDS3 (which has stopped working, but i have most on other formats), then DVD, now RAID and clone! Retrospect is painless when you get the hang of it.... Yes, you do seem in a better mood than I would be.... All the best and good luck with all your stuff!!!!!
I never thought about keeping an additional hard drive with a family member. Brilliant. I always heard "keep at least one off-site." And I'm so dense that I was always like "I don't have multiple properties! And I don't really feel like fooling with any sort of paid storage service." Keep it with my parents. DUH! Great tip, thank you!
I do the same. Raid array online, second raid offline for backup, 3rd copy on drives offsite. I haven't digitized old tapes yet though. Thanks for reminding me! Things are slow, maybe that's a spring project...
For what it's worth, I keep 3 generations of backup disk drives. I put the most recent backup in my safe deposit box every month and take the oldest out for the next backup, which I do every month. It's a bit of a pain, but I was VERY glad I did it when my computer died and I could not recover my drives. I figure I can redo a few weeks of my work generally, but not decades.
Cloud storage is great to add to your back up strategy. Just keep in mind that cloud data can get lost (though rare), and you can not boot your computer off of a cloud back up. I use such massive amounts of data with audio and video projects that could back up is not really feasible for me personally.
Trees get their revenge in the end. Karma dude. You’re fortunate. Nature will fuck with us.
You're in an infinitely better mood than I would be, in your position! Way to clone.
Because I clone!! ;-)

I am so glad I did that digitizing. Most of it has no commercial value, but means a lot to me.
Glad to see you were able to save your data! Send in the Clones!
Thanks for a good laugh!
Good Advice!
Thanks Nick! It is the same for camera gear.

Great strategy!
What about Cloud storage?

@@RonanChrisMurphy Good point. Glad you're all right by the way!!
+1 on backups..... -1 for being on MAC..... You're holding it wrong, was that not the first salvo?
