Once again, something that for you seems simple yet has me pulling my hair out. Do you provide a service that would calibrate either my Dillon Eliminator or my RCBS 505 Many thanks Frank
Hello Allan, ignore my previous request, I just read that you are back logged with work. But do you think you could take a moment to put here the exact model number of the camera, please. I have searched over hell and high water on e-bay and amazon to no avail. You show the camera so often and I know others are very curious also. Thank you.
Hi Dave - Sorry about the scales - I'm only just keeping up with the Targetmaster orders at the moment. These are the cameras I use. They focus right down to a couple of inches by unscrewing the lens a little. www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Mini-Stylish-USB-2-0-5M-Meter-Retractable-Clip-WebCam-Web-Camera-Laptop-GH-/112184941002?hash=item1a1ebe59ca:g:CiUAAOSw8gVX~Kel If you want to use it with an android tablet you will need a free app like this and also an OTG cable to convert the standard USB plug on the camera to a mini USB for the tablet. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaultmicro.camerafi If you PC or laptop has poor USB camera support you can download this free program. www.sharpcap.co.uk
Pull one of these apart and use the brass block to mount the needle - yes you will need to re-balance the scale by adding weight to the pan. You will need to add about 6-7 times the weight of the needle to balance the scale. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metway-16A-PCB-Terminal-Blocks-2Pole-3-Pole-4-Pole/141875594073?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=441009580177&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
I think honeing and polishing the bearing surfaces is not something that should be done by hand they are a machined polish surface and you may not have a proper working scale.
Sorry Wayne - All these reloading scales are made at minimum cost for maximum profit. The quality of these type of scales, especially over the last 5-7 years or so, has dropped dramatically and can often easily be enhanced with a little careful work.
Getting the correct angle to view the pointer can be a problem, with this method, (using a small camera), you are always viewing the pointer from the same angle, so that must give more consistent results, something I will have to look into. Chris B.
Thank you Chris - Your comments are always appreciated. This system is so simple, the greatly magnified image and zero parallax makes reading the scale more accurate and easier. The monitor can be place right where you can see it best, it works particularly well with an auto trickler such as the Omega or Targetmaster trickler.
Oh! I would much prefer the "Targetmaster", I will get one some day. The parallax is probably only a very small problem, but it is a thing that does cause me a crick in the neck, I suppose a simple temporary solution would be to put the beam scale on a higher shelf. Chris B.
Hello Targetmaster, all is good in Illinois. Love the Targetmaster trickler, i pretty much use it for all my rifle reloading it's addicting . hope all is good in the UK.
I make all the parts myself by hand. The pointer needs to be made from something non-magnetic (Copper/Brass) and stand away from the bean by about 1.5-2mm. After fitting an extended pointer you will need to rebalance the scale by adding weight the the weightbox under the pan.
@@Targetmaster1066 Gday Allan , I too am very interested in your knowledge on tuning the scale . I reckon that you improve the alignment of the magnets generating the eddy's that provide the damping . I shoot F class and I am finding inconsistencies that I can only put back onto powder charging . My RCBS 505 AHAUS scale zero out at different points dependant on if the beam is deflected up or down . I think I can possibly work with this temporarily but would love to fix it for repeatable indications . Thanks for your videos . Great stuff . Cheers mate Bill
Don't give up - I will eventually get back to the scales. I just recently perfected a method to make replacement knife edges for these and older scales. imgur.com/U7l39ic
Sounds good, I will get back to you. Can one buy the whole scale from you or do I have to send you my scale? I don't have a mechanical scale yet. Which one would you recommend?
I think, if buying a new beam scale, I would go for either a Redding No 2 or an RCBS M500 - both good basic scales that can be enhanced when the time comes. I would love to have tuned scales ready to sell Tobias, just can't catch with other stuff I'm doing at the moment.

I'm just too far behind with other projects at the moment Cj to take any scale work on - You might try again in another couple of months to see if I've caught up.
I notice some scales seem to settle very quickly, more so than others of the same make and model. What can you do to increase the effectiveness of magnetic dampening. Looking at some of the Scott Parker jobbies (particularly RCBS101) it appears they can be made to slow down, or settle much faster. Any ideas?
The amount of damping really is a factor of the strength of the magnets and how they are set up. Personally I prefer a scale that's not so over damped it looks dead. For maximum damping the magnets need to be placed so they attract and close and at right angles to the damper plate. Some designs of scales you can juggle around to re-position the magnets, others, like the 10/10, it's not so easy. If you really want more damping then stronger magnets are easily available. What ever you do, make sure you're happy with the damping before you fill the base with weighting material.
This scale is incredible with the target master Allan thank you soooooo much 👍🏻
Can't believe how accurate they are
Thank you Danny - Pleased they are working well for you. :)

now... i have to buy a tablet. and a camera. hehe... Great idea sir. keep up the good work!

I purchased the Targetmaster several years ago and added the camera. It's the most accurate system i have ever seen, great for those old eyes.

Hi Allan, any chance of a video showing how to tune these. Or are you caught up and doing service on these?
Hi Nicklaus - I may well do a scale tune "tutorial", I've been asked a few times. Where are you based?
I am working in Kuwait atm and live in small town Iowa USA. Thanks for the reply, I’d really like to attempt this when I get home.
