I'm genuinely surprised that no one has redone Dragon's Lair (or DL 2 or Space Ace) as a fully CG remake allowing the player to truly investigate that castle. As a kid watching other people play it (I sucked) I always imagined there must be TONS of secret rooms that Dirk never gets to in the game (look at the "elevator platform" section and see how high that castle is...). As an open world it could be really something if done right.

Dragon's Lair 3D did do this to an extent.
Dragon's Lair came out of the gate so stealthily that the other manufacturers ended up throwing together any old POS they could so they could call it a "laser disk game". This, in my opinion, is one of the main reasons that they came and went so quickly. (Hardware limitations at the time were also a factor. Imagine a game like that today using a super fast SSD drive instead of a slow-access laserdisk player). Only a handful of non-Cinematronic releases were worth a crap, in my opinion.
