Derek, please stop apologizing for being negative. There legitimately isn't anything to be positive about with this team right now. And you're absolutely right, this is an organizational failure and there's plenty of blame to go around. I've been calling for Trashman and Fishman to be fired for two years now, but I also blame Hal for keeping them around. I don't necessarily blame Boone, I mostly blame Trashman for a hiring a guy with no experience instead of hiring a guy like Buck Showalter. They hired Boone to babysit, blow bubbles, and be nauseatingly positive. They're getting what they wanted. They didn't want somone like Buck who would hold players accountable.

IKF is a nice little player but taking on a $21, 25 million contract (whatever it is) to acquire a nice little slap hitting (should be) utility guy doesn’t make much sense. Nor is it great to get saddled with a bad contract for the sake of getting rid of a catcher who couldn’t catch (Gary Sanchez). To accomplish the same thing, they should have signed Jose Iglesias to a one or two year contract, non-tendered Gary Sanchez and kept Gio Urshela for third base. The Yankees seem to have this thing about being unable to admit their mistakes in acquiring players. They kept running Andrew Heaney out there last season when it was clear he was a Little League pitching machine, they kept running Joey Gallo when it was clear he couldn’t handle New York and Josh Donaldson can catch the ball but that’s about it. There’s something to be said about showing confidence in a veteran who has done it elsewhere, giving him some rope but at some point, you just gotta acknowledge that it’s not working and move on.

Cashman put all this together, it's all on him, even when the team was going good it was mainly the pitching being great, you knew deep down this team the team would struggle in the playoffs offensively , Donaldson about finished, but so is Rizzo, a .220 #3 hitter is a joke, why you think Judge gets no pitches to hit anymore?

@@snerdterguson I not disagreeing with all your points, however in my opinion the Yankee organization needs a change in philosophy, we lose Stanton nearly every year, so no different, he does help, but we cannot hit with runners in scoring position as a team, and teams lose 1 inning pitchers all the time, this team was just poorly constructed, 250 million dollars for this? Imagine Cashman working on the Pirates or Rays budget! He signed lots of old players past their prime, very average young players like IKF and Gleyber, Cashman never seems to focus on one of the most important positions for the pitching staff (catcher) sure Trevino has been good, but not great, Montgomery the other day said how much pitching to Molina helped him, a homerun or bust team is not gonna get it done against the best of the best when it matters most, I'm shocked Cashman cant remember what made the 90's team so special, you need a solid core, then build around it, the only core now is Judge and a declining DJ, also Cashman now treats this like a video game where you just pick random players you like, chemistry is super important for a team, and this team has none, I do blame Boone for that part a little as well and Judge, during this rough month he's been absolutely terrible and the team seems defeated

@@snerdterguson ok your obviously right about EVERYTHING, what difference does it make HOW Cashman got Gleyber? There were other possible trades at that time for Chapman, Gleyber is lazy and is average at best, lazy players are bad for team chemistry, i think Cashman knows this deep down, which is why he was including him in trade packages, Joey Gallo stunk for this team .151!!! the team was winning in spite of him, the pitching was great for 2 solid months, that's why they were so hot, and as far as Trevino, yes he's good, he's a big improvement over Sanchez and Higgy, but who should I believe YOU or a actual major league pitcher Jordan Montgomery? Who said how great it was pitching to Molina, not everything can be measured with WAR OPS XYZ etc... I've actually watched the games, Trevino has made mistakes behind the plate, he's no Molina at all, not close! And nobody isn't saying King wasn't great, but jesus Christ! Know your saying he's Rivera plus more!?! If a team with a 250 million dollar payroll cant survive the lose of a bullpen arm then that should show you the GM didn't do a good job, you act like no other team ever has a injury, this team is poorly constructed, Rizzo, Donaldson are past their primes, Hicks is a below average player at this point, Gleyber is a average at best player, IKF is a good utility player, Stanton is a walking injury and this was know before the Yankees got him, Carpenter was a washed up player who Cashman won the lottery on, Cashman's only good thing in recent years seems to be building up a better farm system, there's a damn lot of people who agree with the things I'm pointing out, but if think Cashman has done good the last 20 years with 200 million plus EVERY year then that fine, no need to argue anymore

The Yankees always end up buying the used car at a new car price. We get fleeced year after year with a bunch of players out of their prime. Why do you think other teams seem to give up these players so easily? It’s because they know the players are dead weight and probably have a good year at best left in them. Ironically, I think the best trade the Yankees made as of recent was the Effross trade. He’s young, and we get him for 5 more years. Sometimes the best moves are the most obvious ones. The Yankees refuse to open up the farm system wallet and get players that’ll help us win a World Series right now. The Yankees aspire to win a World Series, but have a business philosophy like we’re in the middle of a rebuild. They’re trying to have their cake and eat it too. It just can’t be done. If you’re serious about winning the Series, then you’re gonna have to come close to draining the farm. If you wanna hoard prospects, then just give up on the World Series, tank for draft picks, and commit to a rebuild.

@@snerdterguson I’m not disagreeing with your take. You’re 100% correct that there will be mad whichever way the Yankees went, but you have to tune them out for the greater good. I had my heart set on Castillo, and when we didn’t get him I was furious. Yeah, the Reds wanted Volpe, but that’s the price you pay for an elite pitcher. It’s not like we didn’t have SS depth in the minors. Instead we had to cough up Waldichuk and Sears for Montas and look what we got. I know it’s a small sample, and the whole team is doing bad, so it’s not helping him when the offense isn’t scoring, but like c’mon man. It’s like the Yankees are afraid to go all in on players. It’s either you’re in or you’re out. You can’t go half in, half out. To be fair to Cashman a little bit, I think he was really trying to get Pablo Lopez right before the deadline, but the Marlins screwed us. I don’t know why we didn’t just go after Rodón. He’s a lefty, and he had better numbers than Monte. That would have actually be a 1 for 1 upgrade.

It is what it is. You have a healthy team and the Yankee army was breaking ground big time. Suddenly, you lose some important assets and you replace them but don't get the same results. How do you replace Stanton, Carpenter, Severino, King, Green ? Some others also went on the DL as well for shorter periods.
Blame it on the scouts who recommend to draft a given player that does not pan out as expected. Blame it on the player development in the minors that don't prepare the prospect for the major league if we want.
We can blame part of it to Boone and his staff as well but we can also give credit to the opposition that comes to play against you. Possibly the best thing to happen now rather than later on in September when it will get really tight in the standings.
Give Cashman credit not to have given up Volpe, Perazza or Dominguez for short term needs. Clark Schmidt will be back up soon as well. They will soon be regulars in the lineup. No GM is immune to making mistakes so just be thankful we are still up 8 games on August 22 2022. All teams will have challenges moving forward.

Hal and Cash traded for Stanton for one reason-to absolve themselves of having to sign Machado or Harper. Stanton's $25 million/year would still be cheaper than having to pay Harper or Machado more than $30 million. That is why I am expecting Judge to walk. Some team will give him the really big money. After signing Cole to a big contract, the front office has done nothing except shop in the bargain basement for players; guys who had been perpetually injured trying to make comebacks. I admit they got lucky with Nestor; he's been exceptional. Yet, Kluber spent most his year on the IL, and Sevy continues to break down. Taillon's overall numbers are okay, but he has been bad in the second half. Despite what Montgomerey is doing now in St. Louis, while he was here, he could never hold a lead. However, trading a solid pitcher for an injured player seems par for the course now. I wish Hal would sell the team. He could make billions and enjoy retirement with his family. A complete purge of the organization is needed, and the Steinbrenner era need to come to an end.

The way they're run, the way they're built they'll almost always be a playoff team but they'll never get to a ws much less win one with this philosophy. That's been abundantly clear since 2009. Cashman has the gm for well I er 2 decades. Set aside the titles won with teams someone else built, he's only personally responsible for 1 title the last 21 seasons. #1 - Cashman
    #2 - Hal
I don't believe Boone is a good manager, but he has little to nothing to do with this epic collapse. He was also the manager in the first half, when the team was playing well beyond anyone's expectations.
Cashman is just not a good GM. He took over in '98, after all the main pieces were already in place that led to all the championships. And 2009 came from simply buying the top pitchers and hitter. He's been the GM for *24 years.* It's clearly not working. Let him go, or continue to watch the same story play out over and over.
And as others have said, this is only a business to Hal, not a passion.
For decades, now, I have loathed the whole "homerun or bust" philosophy. It's just not a way to have a great offense *on a consistent basis* (leads to a lot of streaky hitting) - and certainly not in the playoffs, when you're facing the best pitchers.
I'll be skipping today's game entirely. The first of 3 games against pitchers who would dominate them even if they WERE hitting - nope, I need to take a mental health day off from the team.

From top to bottom the whole damn team are at fault from clueless Hal to Brian cashman who doesn't know how to select starting pitching also the lack of contact hitting on this team and holding on to prospects way too long cashmans needs to go Boone is a puppet to the organization so not much he can do with the trash that cashman gave him until cashman is gone and Hal wakes up this team is going to be a failure for the forsealable future cashman needs to go now

Hal may own a baseball team but he is not a baseball man. This falls on Cashman he is the guy that put it all together. You can’t fire Hal so cashman has to go. And Boone has lost the team he can’t motivate the players any longer. We should just start over New GM and manager what could happen we lose. It’s all really happening!!

Boone has the demeanor of a camp counselor and he isn't a good manager by any means but he's probably fourth on the blame ladder.
I place much of the blame on the players but even more of it on Cashman and the front office for the construction of this team and for Hal seemingly being OK with all of this.
The Yankees should not be just another team, they should act like and be the best baseball team on the planet. They should not be overestimating their own prospects and then hanging onto them until they have no trade value. They should not be acquiring older, broken-down, expensive players who are on the 18th holes of their careers.
But most of all, they need to do better - much better - at identifying talent, developing it and coaching it up at their respective levels. We seem to have too many folks in the organization who are just happy with competing for a playoff spot instead of winning the whole effing thing.

The Yankees are no different from last year. They played way above their heads in the first 100 games, but this team is no different than last year. They struck lightning in a bottle with Carpenter, who is out. Stanton is no surprise to get hurt ad he is out. Do not forget that these are the "Dog Days of August." A lot of hitters fall off and get spent and it was brutally hot at the beginning of the month. The hitters are either gone or wore out. It is NY, so all of this gets amplified. In short, the Yankees are who we thought they were.

I don't get why some of the fans don't want to blame Boone. He gets the credit when they win and has to take major heat when they lose. Especially when they are in a free fall. Boone is the one not bunting, not putting runners in motion, not stealing and allowing all his players to swing for the fences when they just need to learn situational hitting. When a team is slumping that is when a manager needs to shake things up and think outside the box to manufacture runs. He is also the "manager" who keeps putting Albert Abreau in high leverage situations when he can't get anyone out. He can bang his hand on a table all he wants. That is just theatrics and it means nothing. He keeps saying they have to play better. Thank you Captain Obvious but we all know that already. smh

What the Yanks should have done was determine if they are ALL in this year and maybe next or not. If not then we need to maybe retool and if they are ALL in then what they needed to do was besides the Twins trade was to focus first on dominating pitching. They could have signed Verlander and Scherzer and trade for Hader. That way they could retain prospects and be heavy favorites for the World Series.

In the 1st half of the yankees season 62 percent of the yankees runs were by homeruns resulting in 460 RBIs. In the 2nd half less than 46 percent of there runs have come by homeruns resulting in 146 RBIs. Teams have learned to pitch low in the strike zone to induce ground outs and strike outs. There offense is way down. Add that to the yankees pitching woes and you get a big slump. But the yankees are still the 2nd best team in the AL. They need to figure things out or the Astros, Bluejays, Mets and Dodgers will bounce them out of the playoffs. Bluejays are only 7 games back of the NY Yankees. That said i hope Judge hits 61+ homeruns. All Rise!

Love by the HR and die by it, too. This team seems to have fallen back into the troubled mindset of “we’re struggling, so we need to try and hit more HRs” and that’s going to continue to prove disastrous. I’m not so upset at Boone like I was last year when he made some real shit on field decisions. (Field of Dreams game taking out Holmes when he was absolutely locked in.) I think what this team-organization-needs is some more old school mindsets making decisions. Analytics are great, and they’re what the sport is nowadays. But having the Torre/Zimmer combo on the bench reading the game and their players GAME-TO-GAME is imo invaluable. And let’s be honest, the “batting average doesn’t matter as much as it once did” mentality is bullshit. It doesn’t matter if you’re hitting .230and have a fuckin hard hit % in the 90 percentile if you’re hitting the ball right at players every time. High BA=more times hit safely and that’s what this team needs. Screw the league leaders in home runs: get the f on base and employ small ball tactics to keep pressure on the opposing defense.

As much as I would like to blame Aaron Boone for a lot of this I can’t. Players still have to field they still have to hit they still have to pitch in they still have to play the game. They rely too much on the home run and not the average common hit or a double. You cannot take the players by hand and go out there and hit the ball for them. They are called professional ball players and his team act like they don’t care. Even run the bases I don’t see him putting a lot of effort when they go from home plate the first that faster.
