I have always enjoyed This Old House! Best show ever! I sealed my attic too. Did the Blower Door Test. I am not at Net Zero but did a lot for my house. So cool you are trying to get there.
Great to see this getting some exposure...would love to know how this new technology has an effect on the enviorment, and what the total wasted product pushed out of the building is. How fire resistant is it? what effects does water have on it once its set?
The technology has been around for a while now. At least since 2012, but maybe a bit longer. The Aeroseal product itself is a organic polymer, and shares quite a bit chemically speaking to Elmers glue (I believe its also some form of PolyVinyl Acitate). So I suppose environmental effect is similar to Elmers, in any case it can break down in the environment. I dont know how much gets wasted vs applied though. I dont think humidity has an effect on Aeroseal, but I would expect direct and prolonged water contact would..
Hi Baxta -- Our X1 sealant is environmentally friendly, a third-party lab tested the sealant determining it has GreenGuard Gold certified and gives off Ultra-low VOCs. We are currently undergoing tests for a fire resistant certification and hope to receive the results soon. Water will not deteriorate or ruin the sealant after it is applied. excellent stuff, some quick questions, -does it affect the wall or ceiling finishes? -does the floor need to be removed? -up to what size holes does this process perform effectively? -if a hole is too large does it still indicate a leak?
Hi Freek Hoekstra -- Great questions, Our AeroBarrier sealant will not affect the wall or ceiling finishes and the floor does not need to be removed. AeroBarrier can seal and holes as small as a human hair up-to 1/2". Our expert team of partners seal prep the space and seal any holes larger than 1/2" before sealing and can determine if there is a large hole during the sealing process and seal it. You can find your local AeroBarrier partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
what keeps spray sealant areobarrier from places you dont want it in existing house like windows and trim. If you tape off you may tape over a crack....temporarily and it wont get sealed. ....? Do you have to gut the inside of older house first?
Thanks for the question, our expert team of AeroBarrier partners prep the home and tape-off vertical surfaces and other areas that does not need sealed. No, you not have to gut the inside of the older home first. You can find your local AeroBarrier partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
Hi Nicholas Landolina -- AeroBarrier has been tested by a third-party lab, revealing that our X1 sealant withstands a simulated 50-year durability test, with little or no seal degradation. It can also be applied at any stage of the build process, from rough-in to finished drywall. thanks for the questions!
I live in zip code 33331 (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). I visited your website and learned you have no dealers in all of Florida. The closest dealer to me is 600 miles away. Why no dealer in Florida??
Well I'll be a suckeggedmule if that don't beat all. I'm totally redoing our 120 year old house, torn down to studs, attic, crawlspace now, ready for insulation. Wanting to go with spray foam. I wonder if spray foam insulation seals up all the cracks? I'm thinking it does, but this stuff is different than anything I've ever heard of. What, spray foam now on that house?
Hi Taka Yama -- AeroBarrier and spray foam work very well together. After insulation is installed, you can contact your local AeroBarrier partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
Hi Bill Gehring -- At this time we do not recommend using AeroBarrier for retrofit applications. We are undergoing testing and hope to apply our system to this application soon.
How do I get in on this technology? Is this a “Franchise “? I live in a “Historical Home”, and crack and leaks are an ongoing thing! I would LOVE to have our home “AeroSealed” like this. I have seen this done with the HVAC ducting about 20 years ago. I SOO NEED this!
Hi Raul DeMoura -- AeroBarrier is a great application for historical homes! you can find your local AeroBarrier partner and their contact information by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/

How long will it last and can you do it with drywall

Can you please advice if a house built in the 80s can get aerobarrier? If so who can do it for me? I live in Ontario Canada. Thanks.
We can service older homes, but you will want to consult your local AeroBarrier dealer for more details! aeroseal.com/get-a-free-quote/
As always 👍
So you could do this to a finished house?
Hi Bill Gehring -- At this time we do not recommend using AeroBarrier for retrofit applications. We are undergoing testing and hope to apply our system to this application soon.

Dealers are independent contractors. They probably just haven't had anyone in Florida contact them and become a dealer.
