    I just love this song❤
Tarja's voice is so epic in this one... and her ICONIC red coat/dress... just beautifully magic🪄
    Thank you!
(There is also a song called the siren from this same concert)

Thank you so much for this reaction! Funnily enough Tuomas wrote a song called The Siren when Tarja was still with the band and when an interviewer asked him why he said among other things "We have a Siren in the band" :) So spot on comparison! *The Siren -- End of an Era* if you're interested! Incredible song.
I do love Tarja's classical approach and how grand the symphonic elements are and how present the instruments, I do think they're higher up in the mix, while Tarja's voice soars above it beautifully.

See the official video. 1st comment. Tarja is the siren. Someone even put together a video with CGI sirens. To that song. The coat is the same as the official video. 2004
Her signature is still colour coding her mics to her outfit. In this show she has 6 costumes, 5 changes over 17 of 18 tracks. She is not in High Hopes. Marko sang lead.
Starts with a gold/yellow coat/dress. Then just black blouse and slacks for the siren. Might be the same blouse as under the yellow coat. Then I think it was a white off the shoulders gown for Sleeping Sun same as 2nd official video. Also from Once 2004 , then it's the black strapped one with yellow undershirt. Yep yellow mic again. Then a white number and white mic to end the show. And her time in the band.
They put on a hell of a show for the home fans that night ( December 21,2005) in Helsinki and for Tarja. I have seen the colours match even in 2003 concerts. Still does it to this day m. Credit to the lady who helps create these outfits for Tarja. Face it with her looks and fit figure she can pull off near anything

Yes, by 2005 Tarja had really figured out that "glamorous witch" look. And that's not meant in a negative way, oh no, she looks great. In the early Nightwish days, she was still in the process of finding her look. As all of them were ;-)

At the beginning Marko talks Finnish, he said: "Hey, this is the guy who wrote the whole song, Mr. Tuomas Holopainen".
Nemo is a great song - beautiful and heavy, catchy and it almost surprises the listener how massive a wall of sound there suddenly is.

Yup. That last section after vocals are over, brings all hands-on-deck feeling, where every instrument + orchestra is on full power, max headbang level.

Your observations are right on target. Some songs were a lot more symphonic in this era. I guess that’s why I prefer this a little bit more. And actually, it does make for a nice contrast. I love it when the performances do that. The symphonic on this version really comes through at the end. It’s like a solid wall of sound and the band finishes it out. I appreciate that Tarja doesn’t sing here simply so that sound can wash over me uninterrupted. Even the album version doesn’t have this ending.

Oh, man! This brings back so many good memories for me. I was a HUGE Nightwish fan back then and when my small group of friends found out that they would be touring in the US, we jumped at the opportunity. They played less than a dozen US cities for this tour, sadly, and the closest venue to my group was in Cleveland, OH. Little did we know how epic going to this show would be on so many levels. I believe it was the last tour with Tarja in the band, and getting to see Jukka in his absolute prime as well was just... well, I'm sure you can imagine! Since none of my group had ever been to Cleveland, we ended up arriving into the city way, way, way early in the day. There was not much to see/do in that area of the city, unfortunately, but we fortunately had a really small gathering of other Nightwish fans who also had arrived early to hang out with.
Luckily for us, we were kind of walking around the block towards the back of the venue when we noticed a couple of very familiar looking guys just standing next to the street smoking cigarettes. It was Marko and Emppu! They realized that we noticed them and, instead of cowering away towards the tour bus and venue out back, they waved us over and happily had a chat with us!
Their performance that night was absolutely everything I had -Night-wished for! Tarja and the band were at the very top of their game and didn't seem to be phoning it in for the US tour dates. The reason I say that is because not only did they play only like 10 or so cities in the US, they also played in some venues that hold less than 1,000 total people, which is about 19,000 (or more) less than they would have been used to elsewhere in the world.
My only criticism, and it is indeed kind of petty, was that after the show when some fans had gathered out back of the venue near the tour bus, Tarja was quickly whisked away by her boyfriend and not allowing her to interact with her fans, while the rest of the band were cool and signing autographs.
On a more nerdier note, this band was significant for me because they were the (unofficial) soundtrack to an MMORPG game I was playing at the time called "Dark Age of Camelot". So the band Nightwish, this album in particular, and this TOUR in particular, along with DAOC, will forever have home in my heart.
To anyone who actually read all of this, thank you

Thanks for the reaction and your words. I completely agree with you, the wars between fans are unnecessary and all female singers should be appreciated and not tried to erase them from history. At the same time, I really like how you said after the video that you would review this video as if you had never seen the Floor's version. This is a wonderful approach, to evaluate each performance individually. You don't even know how tiring it is to watch the reactions to even Tarja's solo performances, to her own songs, many years after leaving Nightwish, and how someone compares her to Floor again, even though she has nothing to do with Tarja's own stuff. Thanks a lot for that.
And about Tarja, I totally agree with you, there is something almost mystical about her, and she still retains that aura to this day. Someone recently described her as Dark & Beautiful and that really fits her. I hope you'll come back to Tarja again and maybe listen to her song The Siren from the same End of an Era concert, or even something from her solo career.

    Hey Jeff
You said you're familiar with Wishmaster, that's the 3rd album in 2000. Nemo is from the 2004 5th album, Once. This performance is 2005 in Helsinki (End of an Era DVD), the last show of the Once tour. Song #13 in an 18 song set. Tarja had several outfits here, and all had color coordinated mic and mic stand. And this was the last Nightwish concert with Tarja.
Siren is a fitting description as their song The Siren , also from Once, is played here, and one I highly recommend.
To see Anette, try Amaranthe music video, Bye Bye Beautiful at 2008 Exit festival, or Slow Love Slow at 2012 Montreux Jazz. (Bye Bye Beautiful MV usually gets blocked in some countries including the USA)

I suggest skipping bye bye beautiful. It was a mean spirited attack on Tarja to slander her and take the heat off of the boys for her dismissal in that appalling fashion. Floor set as a ground rule that she will never sing it. Tarja and Floor are good friends to this day. Floor sought out and got Tarja's blessings to join the band.
They all met in Floor's previous band After Forever opened for NE. Tarja was Floor 's idol in metal. Who can blame her.

She wrote that hersey. Plays it herself in the video. Tuomas ' mother was her piano teacher. With Tuomas there, no reason exists for Tarja to hind behind a piano instead of up front. As you know where you'd expect to find a frontwoman .
In her videos she often plays. On stage she has full time musicians. Piano, drums, cello, 3 guitars. And how many times she reinvented her singing voice to write new styles and genres of music.

I love her style and the way she carries herself. Her voice has such a rich, warm tone, yet powerful. Please react to The Siren and Ghost Love Score from the same end of an era concert and I would add there Slaying the dreamer. Also, have you seen/ heard any of her classical stuff and/ or her solo performances? I would suggest Pie Jesu and Mein Herr Marquis to hear her bright soprano tone and Supremacy from Woodstock 2016 with absolutely beautiful chest voice.
From Anette, Amaranth is a must and Eva live is so beautiful and does justice to her voice.

This "end of an era" concert is different in many ways... The band is playing their hearts out as it is basically "their last concert". The band knew very well that they would be firing Tarja after the show and there is that certain extra oomph to their playing. They didn't have a new singer waiting in the wings, they weren't really prepared for the aftermath... Or had a clear path moving forward after Tarja was out. They had no idea if they were ever going to make new music again or be on tour... Everything went up into the air after this concert and we are lucky that we still have Nightwish. As you can tell from Poet and the Pendulum that it was pretty close there for a while...

You really need to check out the album "Renaissance live at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra". Renaissance was a 70's version of Nightwish. They were a blend of rock, jazz and classical music. And as with Nightwish the vocalist Annie Haslam was opera trained and had a wide range. You will find them to be fantastic, but any quality videos are rare. A few BBC specials are here on youtube.
