Right now, my brewing mostly consists of making cider and wine using store bought juices. It has been pretty tasty so far. Ferments clean, settles out easy. I have found that grape juice is better tasting than the apple. The apple always seems to need a bit of a sweeten to be as good as the grape wines that I do.
I have used Apple Juice bought from the store, but I do put it through a fermentation. That is how I got started with my air still. I only use 100% juice with nothing extra in it. I checked the label thoroughly. My first batch I made in a 2 gal. bucket. I did add sugar and I used wine yeast and some yeast nutrient. I don't think I would describe my final product as 'doo doo water'. lol
I thought some great apple flavor would come through. It turns out you get the medicinal flavor, sorta like a gross tincture.

So....Just how do you know what doo doo water tastes like?

The concentrate left in the still may be OK. Or boil juice down to concentrate flavour.

If it's just 1x distilled, yeah it'll taste crappy. Maybe try 1.5 technique: run it once, then put those low wines back in the boiler & top up with wash. Or even low wines + raw juice. Should get some flavor carry-over.

Have you ever distilled your spirit down to 0% and used that water 🤔I am probably wrong about this , but I think it is called sweet water . I have used it to proof with good results. I have also used coconut water to proof Filipino style coconut liquor (lambanog) that was some of the tastiest stuff I have ever had.

I'd go for an 80% vodka and 20% cordial (by volume) combo for distillation.
