    Professor Kano is truly an inspiration. Minimum energy with maximum efficiency. Although I have had no formal training, I did study a bit on jujutsu and judo during my time in the military when I was stationed in Korea. What inspires me is the philosophy and self-discipline. The meaning of gentle technique and gentle way truly speaks for itself. To others who have not been exposed to the art, it may seem vicious and deadly but there is no intent on purposely harming others. Although I may have forgotten some of the techniques, I can definitely say that I learned that being gentle and level-headed is the best way to approach any situation.

    Kano trained and mastered two different styles of classical jujutsu which were the Tenjin Shinyo Ryu and the Kito Ryu. He then combined the two and altered the techniques to create today's Judo. 👍

    Chadi, if you may be interested, when the U.S. Army first formally created the Special Forces Groups/Green Berets they were all sent to earn black belts in Judo for hand to hand combat. Then some added kara te later to supplement their judo w/empty hand bareknuckle striking for atemi waza. Also, during and for awhile after the Vietnam war, the U.S. Naval S.E.A.L. teams trained in Judo. SEAL team six members were sent to earn a blackbelt in Judo. Retired SEAL team six member Don Shipley has photographs of him & his team wearing Judogi w/their blackbelts. Judo has a rich history in elite military forces.

    Thank you for explaining kodokan judo and the history with Sensei Kano. I found the kata with the traditional throws performed by him to of been remarkable and with Grace during his demonstration. Though we see traditional judo still today in world and Olympic tournaments, we are seeing so many variations taking the traditional judo away from the sport that I myself never did like to see. We have also seen bans on certain techniques. I was raised in traditional kodokan judo myself through Japenese elders passed down and was fortunate to of struggled but was one of two Judoka from the Ives judo team which was the largest judo team in America for nearly just over two decades with a few hundred Judoka confirmed registered within the usja to of been chosen for the USA National Judo Team. Once on the USA team touring the country in competition while holding training camps and competition in international & world events, the training received under my team captain at the time, Ed Liddie the 1984 Olympic bronze Medalist and Mike Swain former world champion had taught the more modern day competition judo with escaping out of traditional judo so it was like being a brand new Judoka starting out as a white belt almost.
    Though I appreciate what I learned, it was not the same. It did help in tournaments and I competed against the best of the best there was at the time such as Jimmy Pedro and Duey Mitchell who was much older than me and I first learned about them as a child. Anyways, I really do appreciate what you shared here with Sensei Kano and the traditional judo that I miss so very much, thank you kindly.

    One extra tidbit of knowledge: both Jujutsu and Judo start with "ju", so what is the difference between "do" and "jutsu"? "Jutsu" is associated with martial, combat, while "do" is associated with "the way" or "the path" towards enlightenment. That would have been a good starting point for a next video on this topic.

    Hi, one thing I should point out is Thailand was never colonized by the European powers. (In fact Britan and France left Thailand alone as a sort of buffer state between British Burma and French Indochina) Thailand was a client state of Japan during WW2 but switched sides (much like the Italians) when Japan pulled back near the end of the war.

    Kano himself, or those close to him, claim he developed serveral of the throws. For example, Kano claimed too many opponents slid off his hip when doing his favorite throw Uki-goshi, so he developed hari-goshi spesificaly for that contingency. And there are plenty more. so in short, "no" all the tecniques of Judo can certainly not be found in the original jiu-jitsu ryu ha. Especialy in ground work. the experts I have read claim the now common triangle choke (sankaku jime) ,from off the back with the one arm in, was not developed until the early part of the 20th century, probably at a Botukokai school etc. This is pretty common knowledge so if you are going to make odd claims and present your self as an expert on the history of Judo I would sugest you present some evidence for such claims.

    • @Chadi
      @Chadi  4 роки тому +4

      I did say the ne waza came with the challenges and isogai who is a major figure in the development of ne waza after being challenged by fusen ryu master Tanabe, and triangle choke was developped in 1921-1922 by masaru hayakawa all these events i did cover in other videos, and uki goshi was his favourite throw.

    • @Chadi
      @Chadi  4 роки тому +5

      But for the sake of argument, the techniques are somewhat very close to old Jujutsu but what separated the Kodokan was the persona of Kano far more than the techniques that they developped
