maybe one for my favorite clutch weapon the bornheim match with fire ammo. its good at all ranges and can easily take a team on by itself in the right range, paired with lemats and your unstoppable in close the medium range. long ammo ranges will give you trouble but thats were the fire ammo kicks in.

A nice little tip about killing bosses with this, if you heavy melee the boss with the lance and then stick it with the lance's bomb, it will lose half its health, allowing you to only use 2 lances and only go through one rage cycle. Speeding things up alot.

My gf for example hates shooters but she likes the gameplay of HUNT itself. So she decided to main bomb lance and I mean bomb lance only. Well she is a 5 star player with it, even though she barely used any "real" guns in the game.
The only thing bomb lance needs to be introduced to viability is custom ammos. Imagine launching concertina, fire, poison,or flash bombs. (Flash might be op) The big draw of this wouldn't be meta for kills, but it could drastically free up tool and consumable slots for crazy versatility. All that being said, quartermaster bomb lance + Obrez mace is a great build already. I just want to launch a concertina bomb into a bush containing a Cain sweatlord and laugh.
This weapon gives me both extreme dread and extreme amusement. I have never used the weapon but have seen my buddy go and cleave down an entire team with it Nothing fills me with more dread than seeing an enemy only a few feet from me when I miss my shot and know there is nothing I can do to save myself, I am getting cut in half with an empty gun in my hands.
This reminds me of when my lfg team did bomb lance for the memes and I did a 25 meter dash, jumping and zigzagging at some dude and he ran out of ammo in his revolver and I Ctrl+Alt+Delete him
This is definitely one of those instances where the play styles are different on PC than on console. That thing is an entirely different beast on controller lobbies.
When talking about perks for melee, people seem to overlook vigors usefulness. It doubles your stamina regrn in darksight. Combine it with determination, and you can refill the whole bar almost instantly.
Charging in gung-ho with the lance is my favourite, I usually go into VOIP and scream "Swaloololololoo" to intimidate hunters as I barrel toward them lance in hand
another pro of the bomblance: no other weapon makes you laugh as maniacally after each ranged kill. Although other hunters can pull out the explosive charge I believe, like the sticky bomb, but most are too much in panic mode when it lands.
The bomb lance has also the best toolkit to make anyone with aiming issue still get high mmr and play at higher level. I can consistantly get high * with it just because of movement and knowledge, where other weapons would require me to still be able to aim. And aiming is not where i spec'd my build, i'm all for guts and nothing in my ability to put a little white dot on a little hunter's hitbox >.> to each their own
That second delay between hit and kill from the harpoon is what makes the bomb lance so legendary. Its just enough time for the target to realize hes fucked. Also that splatter sound is soooooo satisfying
I love a Mosin Obrez + Bomblance loadout! Although it's a rare treat for me since it requires you to unlock the Obrez, obtain Quartermaster and shell out a wad of cash. :D
The worst part of the bomb lance is the bloodlust my friends get when they have it. I'll watch them leave cover and just chase one dude into the sunset never to be seen again
I'd love to see a video about the different types of melee/PVE options. I have trouble understanding why I'd ever take the heavy knife rather than the small one. And I don't know the bonus that assaillant gives to the throwing axe, beside the sweeter animation.
I'd rather have the heavy knife when solo because light attacks are quieter, and I really want to be quiet, and It conserves stamina, I dont have someone to bail me out if I get mobbed by a hord of grunts, followed by an armored with a screaming immolator behind.

Hey, homereel , PC bomblance veteran here, lot's of wisdom there. Here's my take on it. Most people get frustrated with the bomblance because it goes against your muscle memory and because they try to play it like a weird crossbow with a melee attachment. The blade is your killer, the dart is there for support. What I mean by this is that a lot of people shoot the dart, miss, which is very easy to do with it, then swich to the secondary and start blasting. When you get good with it 95% of your kills with it are melee with the odd stick here and there, bulwark wont scare you here. I saw 2 moments on the video just like that, people are not used to rely on the melee rush. I pair the bomblance with a hand crossbow with half poison. This may seen like insanity but there is a logic to it. It greatly increases your stealth factor, so you have a bigger chance of getting the drop on someone, it kills easily immolators and the assassin (which the bomblance struggles with) and provides 1hk at range. So when you charge someone and they turn and run, you just switch to the xbow and shoot them in the back. If you miss, then you try with the bomblance bolt. It also clears a tool slot, which is important, more on that later. What about firefights? Well, avoid them. If you get ambush retreat and try to counter ambush when they chase you. Plan ahead and dont get caught in the open. Your goal is to get to the boss lair asap becase that's where you shine. You get the hang of not relying on a pistol after some time, you are not trying to play everyone else game. For tools medkit and all the tripwires (alert, poison, concertina), consumables are vit, antidote, concertina and flash. Bomblance should get you the boss lair very fast due to how little AI slows you down, banish and turn the lair in a hazard zone. Think home alone, but with a serial killer. Concertina bomb the more open area then trap every barrel, walkway, etc. Don't trap the doors, you want them inside and door traps are easier to spot. Put poison clouds everywhere with the hand crossbow. Now, if someone peek inside, shoot them with the the dart or the bolt. When they get inside, listen until they are close enough that you can rush then while giving as little reaction time as possible. If they just camp outside grab a bounty and run, they will probably try to grab one before chasing you and trip all over the place. If someone banishes firt, dart a door to open it, throw a flash inside then rush in. Yes, you can get a shotgun to the face, that's always a risk, you "just" need to be faster and more agressive than them. Or you can trap the exits and hang around to see if they try to leave(only do this if you have poacher). Your hunter levels very fast and gets lots of traits through meatheads. Priority one is as you said, silent killer and light step. Then its frontiersman for more traps, determination, doctor, physician, ghoul, packmule, gator legs, grayhound, yada yada. Dont waste points with adrenaline, you are already dead when you need it. The new conduit is a godsend as well, probably shuld be acquired soon too. Whispersmith is cool but not really necessary, same for poacher. This loadout got me a lot of lvl 50 hunters and its my most consistent bounty extracted. Oh yeah, play this solo, this doesnt do very well on teams, where combined arms are more important than trickery. Works very well until 5 stars, but again, you have to completely rework your playstyle.
Just a tip: it actually IS possible to safely kill an immolator with the BL, it just requires hitting it with the very tip of the heavy swing and turning away just in time taking advantage of the curved swing. It's difficult to pull off though and not reliable.

Fun fact: The swing of the bomb lance's melee is more of a spiral then a true arc with the longest reach being on the right side at the start of the swing and the shortest being on the left at the end. Aim way to the left to hit targets father away. Done correctly, with a jump backwards you can even light off a immolator without taking damage, then come in with a second swing for the kill.

I probably have more game time with the bomb lance than most people. (I have 3k hours and I probably spent 600 of them with the bomblance) In general I likely have more melee kills than I do from shooting. However, I don't think the bomblance is worth running at all right now. Here's why... Bulwark) Same reason I stopped running explosive crossbow. They're great weapons until you run into someone using this perk and it's an absolute shame than even if you manage to somehow land a headshot, you're not killing them. Price) It's $200. For almost half that price I can buy a winfield talon which also one shot melees people but can also headshot people at 193 meters, lever through 3 walls, and there's no perks going to resist the damage you do. Ammo Types) There are none. I could see the bomblance being more viable if it had ammo like a flash bomb or such so that you could avoid the bulwark weakness. Until it gets something like that, just use a talon weapon instead.
Bro this with steel shot ammo is taking my 1 star controler game into 3 star. I have the movement abilities of a controler to spin on dimes with a long bladed lance with a eide arcing attack. And a area of effect style spread of pellets. Oh i love it
Not to brag (okay maybe a little), but I have been cleaning out lobbies with the bomblance consistently this past month. I love it. One thing I think it could benefit from is harpoon variants like a flame harpoon that explodes with fire like a molotov, a frag harpoon that works like a weaker frag grenade and a poison harpoon that releases a poison cloud on impact.
The best thing about the bomb lance really is the intimidation... when you come charging at someone with it, you can see the fight or flight instinct kicking in
A tactic I like doing takes advantage of that. I just run at someone with heavy melee charged. If they run they'll be turned around so you can pull out a nagant officer and shoot them without any retaliation
A problem I have with the Bomb Lance is the light attack being too good, and believe it shouldn't one shot due to the wide arch and ability to slinging projectiles for 199 HDs(basically its cheaper then many of the non-one shot long ammo rifles) and makes melee weapons obsolete due to dealing basically the same damage as a Combat Axe.

Actually, about the bomblance and immolators... I remember if you heavy swing at a certain angle facing above an immolator, it wouldn't actually make them explode. I haven't tested this in a good few months however, so I'm uncertain if it actually still *works*
The Bomblance is just one of those quintessential weapons for a certain game. Quake has the Rocket Launcher, Rail Gun. Doom has the BFG and SSG. Hunt... well actually hunt has a lot of shit, but the Bomblance is just mwah. perfect fit for the setting. An aggressively utilitarian weapon, born out of necessity, it is the kind of delightfully brutish contraption that you can see forming out of a 20th Century mind faced with the problem at hand, you can practically see the design being born out in the author's head, iteration, smithing, machining, and the first forays of the weapon leading to success! Its not the best gun and that is more than fine: it is the right one.
Whenever I see someone using a bomb lance I know it's either going to be a phenomenal game or an embarrassingly horrible one. And neither one of those is mutually exclusive to one match at a time.
Feels like you're missing out on the true best Bomblance loadout, Lemat FMJ/Slugs. You get the clutch factor of slugs, the oh-shit button that is Lemat fanning, insane wallbang potential (I just killed a 3 man through the salter's roof tonight, sorry boys) and the only real compromise you're making is that you're more useless past 50 meters than you already were with a Bomblance.

I love the bomb lance cause it appeals to my Monster Hunter brain. You take the bomb lance to cut things in half with ease and then blow up everything else.
Trying to make a video about the bomb lance but I suck so bad with it that I went from 5 to 3 stars within 1 game session. The water devil one shot is good to know though, gives a lot of options for unexpected angles to push from.

Bomblance sticks should red skull down enemy hunters. Thus buffing Bulwark and Dauntless and adding high-risk/high-reward to Bomblance users. Thoughts? Also, Choke bombs should detonate on impact or be able to be cooked.

I have a really weird bug where i cant charge a melee attack and sprint with any weapon besides dedicated melee tools, so i avoid all weapons that have melee benefits.
there is no greater glory than to kill someone with the bomb lance EXCEPT killing someone with the machete or an axe (the one you buy), if you kill someone you can know that they died to one of the worst melee options in the game, if you died you can rest easy knowing that the enemy is now confused why they almost died to a dude with nothing but melee weapons its a win win scenario

you know what is annoyingly inconsistent? Shotguns. Not only they don't ohk most of the times from close quarters, but also you hit anyone from more than 10 meters and you're shooting peanuts at em.

Heavy knife is good for hunters primarily. Any other melee is going to be bettrr for engine.

I probably have more game time with the bomb lance than most people. (I have 3k hours and I probably spent 600 of them with the bomblance) In general I likely have more melee kills than I do from shooting. However, I don't think the bomblance is worth running at all right now. Here's why...
Bulwark) Same reason I stopped running explosive crossbow. They're great weapons until you run into someone using this perk and it's an absolute shame than even if you manage to somehow land a headshot, you're not killing them.
Price) It's $200. For almost half that price I can buy a winfield talon which also one shot melees people but can also headshot people at 193 meters, lever through 3 walls, and there's no perks going to resist the damage you do.
Ammo Types) There are none. I could see the bomblance being more viable if it had ammo like a flash bomb or such so that you could avoid the bulwark weakness. Until it gets something like that, just use a talon weapon instead.
Bro this with steel shot ammo is taking my 1 star controler game into 3 star. I have the movement abilities of a controler to spin on dimes with a long bladed lance with a eide arcing attack. And a area of effect style spread of pellets. Oh i love it
ah, yes, the boomstick, my favourite weapon, up there with the bow.
Not to brag (okay maybe a little), but I have been cleaning out lobbies with the bomblance consistently this past month. I love it.
One thing I think it could benefit from is harpoon variants like a flame harpoon that explodes with fire like a molotov, a frag harpoon that works like a weaker frag grenade and a poison harpoon that releases a poison cloud on impact.
I remember grinding all those crow event points to get that black and red crow skull skin for the bomblance.

The best thing about the bomb lance really is the intimidation... when you come charging at someone with it, you can see the fight or flight instinct kicking in
A tactic I like doing takes advantage of that. I just run at someone with heavy melee charged. If they run they'll be turned around so you can pull out a nagant officer and shoot them without any retaliation
I like to see their gun going everywhere, meaning they shook their mouse in fear

A problem I have with the Bomb Lance is the light attack being too good, and believe it shouldn't one shot due to the wide arch and ability to slinging projectiles for 199 HDs(basically its cheaper then many of the non-one shot long ammo rifles) and makes melee weapons obsolete due to dealing basically the same damage as a Combat Axe.
btw bomb lance range is so huge that you can hit immolator and burst won't reach you

Actually, about the bomblance and immolators... I remember if you heavy swing at a certain angle facing above an immolator, it wouldn't actually make them explode. I haven't tested this in a good few months however, so I'm uncertain if it actually still *works*

The Bomblance is just one of those quintessential weapons for a certain game. Quake has the Rocket Launcher, Rail Gun. Doom has the BFG and SSG. Hunt... well actually hunt has a lot of shit, but the Bomblance is just mwah. perfect fit for the setting. An aggressively utilitarian weapon, born out of necessity, it is the kind of delightfully brutish contraption that you can see forming out of a 20th Century mind faced with the problem at hand, you can practically see the design being born out in the author's head, iteration, smithing, machining, and the first forays of the weapon leading to success!
Its not the best gun and that is more than fine: it is the right one.
If only he knew how powerful bomblance would become.

Feels like you're missing out on the true best Bomblance loadout, Lemat FMJ/Slugs.
You get the clutch factor of slugs, the oh-shit button that is Lemat fanning, insane wallbang potential (I just killed a 3 man through the salter's roof tonight, sorry boys) and the only real compromise you're making is that you're more useless past 50 meters than you already were with a Bomblance.

I love the bomb lance cause it appeals to my Monster Hunter brain. You take the bomb lance to cut things in half with ease and then blow up everything else.
Trying to make a video about the bomb lance but I suck so bad with it that I went from 5 to 3 stars within 1 game session.
The water devil one shot is good to know though, gives a lot of options for unexpected angles to push from.

I have a really weird bug where i cant charge a melee attack and sprint with any weapon besides dedicated melee tools, so i avoid all weapons that have melee benefits.
there is no greater glory than to kill someone with the bomb lance EXCEPT killing someone with the machete or an axe (the one you buy), if you kill someone you can know that they died to one of the worst melee options in the game, if you died you can rest easy knowing that the enemy is now confused why they almost died to a dude with nothing but melee weapons
