Love old Pontiacs! My dad had a 1964 LeMans Convertible, 326 V-8, red with white top and white interior. A neat car and remember him taking me to school in it. Cool car.
Who knew back then that the GTO would usher in a new era - muscle cars.
My Grandfather had a gold 64 Catalina 4 door...he loved it!
My Dad was an Engineer at Cape Canaveral from '56 til '76...when the GTO was introduced apparently they were a popular car for many of the young engineers at The Cape and one of dad's coworkers had one...I heard my Dad joking one day that they decided GTO stood for Get Tires Off!
You forgot metal dashboards. During the winter, I would lay on the front floor so the heat could blow on me.
No wonder they only sold 33K GTOs in 64. If they knew how to promote them, (like Ford did the Mustang) they would've cleaned house in Detroit. In this ad, they don't even mention the 348 HP tri-power.
I think GM was not thrilled that Pontiac got around GMs edict on racing and engine sizes in their cars. But they changed their tune when the 64 GTO sold far beyond their wildest expectations. Even though the GTO became a huge seller, they were late to the party when massive, very powerful engines were put into their competition's cars. It wasn't until 1970 that the 455 was put into the GTO.
These would be rusted out in 5 years like my ‘68 Cougar
that's a true casual speaking who doesn't have a clue
I sub'd. -68' GTO
Cant pass a gas station
Pontiac WT5
Susan Docherty Killed Pontiac.
DEATH TRAPS "
No seat belts
No safety tempered windshield glass
No collapsible steering columns
low bucket seats, with No neck or head support
Nice looking cars, Fast, Fun, But Deadly in an accident
How many were killed also being launched out of the convertibles like a missile ?
Its amazing how far mandated safety manufacturing standards have come
Would not want to be driving 70 mph back then on the expressway and hope no accidents happen that day
Russian Roulette *
Front windshields are are laminated glass for a reason. Tempered windshields glass will shatter onto/into cabin.
Death traps? LOL. (Waaah) Poor baby. I think there's a nice electric Smart car just waiting for your type.
look how many die every day in new cars, roads were not as crazy back in 1964. 65 meant 65 mph, now 65 means 80 mph
@@davidmckibbin4440 True but the all drum don't get them wet drum brakes were worthless at anything over 25 mph . They barley stop when wet 💥 . Rather be driving at today's speed with todays 4 wheel disc
Put me to sleep!…lol
could have been the box of donuts and coke that you had while watching
