  • I think we've unlocked a new Southern superpower.
Can you taste a difference in Coca-Cola that comes from different containers? Matt, Talia, and Liz tried their best to identify which coke came from a plastic bottle, aluminum can, glass bottle, and McDonald's soda fountain. The results were way better than we ever expected.

You can get Sugar sweetened Coke in the US around Passover time in Jewish heavy markets, b/c many Jews don't use corn products on Passover. So in the South, say the Dunwoody area of Georgia or say North Dallas/Far North Dallas, you can get it for 3 months out of the year. The best part was when I found out he drank small bottles, "because," he said, "I finish the small ones while they are still cold."

I'm surprised that there are people who can't smell anything before it rains. It's caused by a chemical in soil produced by bacteria that gets tossed up into the air during rainfall. It's carried in the air for many miles a lot faster than rain clouds move, so you can smell it before the clouds get there. It is one of those chemicals, like vanilla, that the human nose is very sensitive to. In other words, humans are built to detect incoming rain with their nose. So if you can't smell it, you need to blow your nose or something, I dunno.
A real "superpower" is that some people can smell ozone from lighting strikes over the horizon and tell that it is a storm coming and not just rain. I can do this. Nobody else in my family can that I know of. I think you just have to have a really sensitive sniffer for that, which has its downsides let me tell you.

This is why I reward myself with the fountain drink after grocery shopping -- to me it's the best tasting of the four. The kids prefer the glass bottle.

Before watching the video I was thinking, "They're all going through plastic straws, that's potentially going to change the taste". Apparently not enough, though. Well done everyone!👏

If it's the SAME type of plastic straw in each sample, it'll change the flavors the same way for each, anyway.

    • @XianHu
      @XianHu 2 роки тому

@@lawr5764 True, but I was thinking that it would make the non plastic containers taste plasticky, and therefore difficult to differentiate. I was wrong.

  • @havocsquad1

Yes, you can be THAT specific on the grade of Coca-Cola in that four variants if they were opened/formed within the last 10 minutes together. Fountain drink version is the easiest by far to tell.

I think the straw itself can give hints to what the container is. There’s just a feeling a straw has resting against an aluminum edge and fast food top.
    Still great to watch!

Oh yeah, good point. Maybe they should pour each sample into a drinking glass. They would still be testing for what the Coke came out of.

Good for y'all! What I miss are the 7-oz bottles from the local bottlers (yes, there were local bottlers, probably before most of y'all were born.). The local bottlers would add slightly different amounts of syrup. And the bottler in Etowah, TN was generous with the syrup. They were great! And don't even get a Pepsi (spit) close to me! Yuck!A
And don't forget Coke was first bottled in Chattanooga, TN (also home to Moon Pies and Little Debbies!)

Two big ole thumbs up! I like the bottles, preferably the Mexican kind as it is the recipe I grew up with. So, I must point out, that if that was a Mexican Coke in that bottle, then it IS a different recipe. Mexican Coke has sugar in it. It changes the taste slightly for the better, imo, and I think it makes it fizzier. Great job, great content! Such fun!

I lived in NC for a while and fell in LOVE with Cheerwine. So when I found it locally after I'd moved away ... I was more excited than I should have been. However, it NEVER tasted right. I'd open a can or a bottle and it seemed like it would feel flat after 45 seconds. First sip was amazing. Sip #2 was headed towards disappointment. I discovered cheerwine in the glass bottles and they tasted EXACTLY AS I REMEMBER, down to the last sip ... regardless of how long it took to drink. Glass bottle cheer wine is made with sugar, plastic bottle and cans contain HF corn syrup. Glass bottle cane sugar soda will ALWAYS taste better to me, not as sweet but more bubbles

Smelling rain before it gets here *is* a superpower. It let's you know whether to waste time and energy washing your car, it tells you to stop working on the lawn and bring in the tools, that you don't need to water your garden, to take the dog for a walk early, and to roll up your windows and/or close your house windows.
