I love people looking at my city with so much love and excitement. This video touches on how I feel about it when I look at everything going on and everything to do here.
I am a native of Augusta and I'm so glad that you had a great time in our city. I moved away and lived in another state for over 10 years and when I returned, I did what you did and found out the great eating and recreational spots that came about while I was away. It's always good to see what visitors think about LA - Lovely Augusta! One of my favorites is the Petersburg boat ride along the Augusta Canal. Great way to spend a morning.
Really enjoyed this video. We moved from Massachusetts to the Augusta area a year ago. This video is very helpful since we are always looking for new places to eat and try in the area. One thing we have noticed is how friendly everyone is.

We were looking for somewhere to spend Christmas, and we just found it! The only thing I think these travel vlogs are missing is where people who travel like your community does can stay. Looking forward to eating and exploring in Augusta.
If yall are ever back, be sure to check out Hammonds Ferry in North Augusta. It’s literally one mile from where you were on the other side of the river in South Carolina. Its an awesome neighborhood with restaurants, the river walk (greenway) and the baseball stadium SRP Park. You won’t be disappointed!
My sister (and her ex and daughter) lived in Augusta for 7 years. While I didn't enjoy the drive down from Chattanooga to visit them, I loved how vibrant and beautiful Augusta is!
I currently live just outside of Augusta, Grovetown to be exact, my hometown is Washington, about an hour from here. Even though I grew up in this area, I have never really explored Augusta, but I plan to change that now that I'm back here, I've lived all over, Florida, Oregon, Washington state, now back in Georgia. Thank you for this video and show me what I'm missing out on and what to go check out!

Despite it's potential, as a native and current resident of the greater Augusta/CSRA area, I most definitely don't agree that Augusta is a hidden gem. I was born and raised in the Augusta area. After college, my career provided me the opportunity to live in the Midwest for a few years, and spend significant time in other parts of the country. It wasn't until I moved my family back to the Augusta area 6 years ago that I came to this realization. My wife, who's from rural Indiana, was shocked at how frequently she encounters very rude people in Augusta area. She truly believed "Southern Hospitality" would exist here, yet it's been few and far between. On average, our everyday interactions with people while living in the Midwest were far more pleasant than what we've experienced in the Augusta area. Augusta may appear to have a few admirable qualities, but it's mostly superficial. Crime and political corruption are rampant. The public school system is terrible. The weather is oppressively hot and humid throughout much of the year. Beyond that, Augusta has been rated as one of the most unhealthy cities in the United States. Why? Fast food dominates most of the dining scene, and it's often too hot to comfortably enjoy the outdoors. I'm an avid outdoorsman, and I was able to spend much more time doing what I love while living in the Midwest. Sure, the winters were cold and inconvenient up there, but actually having 4 seasons was great. Essentially, Augusta has 2 seasons, hot and swampy, or chilly and wet. The constant high humidity makes both hot and cold temperature extremes feel much worse. For example, a dry 20 degrees in Montana feels much more tolerable than a wet 45 degrees here. Outside of a small section downtown, and the Summerville neighborhood, Augusta is a giant dilapidated ghetto. If not for the Augusta National Golf Club acquiring massive amounts of real estate along Washington Road, the city would be in a much worse condition than it currently exists. Yes, the cost of living is lower here, and many companies are expanding operations and/or moving to the CSRA. This has fostered an influx of people to the area from all over the country. I've worked with many people that have migrated to this area for these reasons. Once the "honeymoon" phase ends, and the exciting newness of the move wears off, the majority of my colleagues are desperately wanting to escape. Recently, there's been a lot of money and effort put into improving downtown Augusta. Unfortunately, the crime downtown is still a major issue. Large groups of mostly underage kids patrol up and down Broad Street looking for trouble. Homelessness (except during The Masters Tournament) is out of control. Shootings and random brawls between the abovementioned groups are frequent occurrences. Despite this, my best advice is to not be fearful when visiting downtown. There are some really great restaurants. Enjoy it, but be vigilant. If moving to the area, most locals would suggest looking for a home in Columbia County, or North Augusta, which is just across the river in South Carolina. It's truly a shame that such a beautiful and historically significant city is plagued by violent crime, a failing school system, poor policing, and inadequate city planning. I'd love to see Augusta make a hard turn for the better. As for me and my family, we're planning to eventually move out of the area one day. What a glorious day that will be!
Augusta certainly has issues just like many towns. I understand wanting a change of pace and scenery! We did enjoy our time in Augusta but I know living there might be very different from visiting.
Augusta has been on the top of my list for years of places to move to if I ever leave the mountains. The right weather, a good river, good economy an still near the mountains... Anyone willing to name their cafe after a bug that infest food, has to be sure its good... An FYI, gators can live in Chattanooga, they dont but they can. People have kept them as pets outside year round in the area. There is also a local pond no one swims in because of a single gator thats been there 30+ years.
I've lived in Augusta for 50 years. It's hot...really, really hot. We have alot of mosquitos and they only give us a break for about 3 months out of the year. Clark's Hill (as local's call it) but to others they would know it as Lake Thurmond is one of assests-30 minutes from Augusta/North Augusta and the Savannah River that you're in has lots of water mocassins and even aligators (be careful). We smile and say hello to each other in this town. Welcome and we hope you enjoyed yourself-ya'll come back now. :)
A long time ago, Augusta was good town to "be from". It was, frankly, a crappy town with distinct "sides of the track" (Augusta has busy rail service). I couldn't wait to get the hell out. Then some folks decided to rescue the town. Downtown is now vibrant with thriving local food and music (check out The Brownstown Gritty!). The once very sketchy canal area has been turned into recreation and education. Even the other sides of the tracks have changed. Augusta doesn't suck anymore, and I'm happy to tell people that Augusta is my hometown (even though I don't live there anymore)
Next time you come through Augusta, you should make your way on out to Harlem, about 30 minutes outside of Augusta and it’s the birthplace of Oliver hardy. they do the Oliver hardy festival in October every year and it’s a really big event and definitely worth checking out
Don’t take offense, I live here. You were literally two blocks from my house. You put yourself in extreme danger walking in that swamp. I take photos there of the 11 foot alligators that are all over the place. Seriously, they have chased me and followed me while I was on the higher banks. 😮
lmao... extreme danger. Tons of us hunt there. Were out there in the dark for hours waist deep in water. The actual danger is being shot in one of the worst cities in the country for Violent Crime.
That specific area of the swamp doesn't see alligators as often as the wet cells do. Plus, they check before this experience, and if anything is spotted, we don't get in the water. I've been going to the swamp since I was 11, and I've never felt like I was in danger, even when being directly on the other side of the fence from a 11-12 footer. As long as people are smart and don't feed or try to aggravate the gators, they want nothing to do with you.
@@chrisandsarathere has only been 9 alligator attacks in GA since 1980, none fatal. Gators are definitely something to watch for but not worry about. I’ve been to that swamp numerous times and only seen a gator once and it took off as soon as it saw me. I wouldn’t take a small dog there but I don’t worry about myself
I notice many cultures and people are different and seek different things traveling to unfamiliar places. I personally like the people interaction as you tried various ventures.
I live in Augusta and never have tried any of those restaurants except for the one with the cheesecake. My daughter is the bakery manager there and she is their cheesecake expert, so much so that her nickname is literally “Cheesecake”.
I just traveled there on accident from ATL and stopped and walked and ate and I loved it the people in all Georgia seemed super genuinely nice the only thing at Augusta I didn't like was the poverty and drug use I saw in the streets
I bet it was! Born and raised in GA, lived in Augusta for 15 years, left midway through the pandemmy to take medical contracts as a Paramedic for agency nursing. Been in North Dakota ever since. I own and now rent property off Gordon highway & Highland ave. Less than a mile from that "Revitalization" Old Regency Mall. What advice do U have, sell now or wait? Also is there any real news on groundbreaking for that so called "Revitalization" of Regency Mall area.

Partridge Inn is a boutique hotel. Nice restaurant. Spa. Great place. Also several B&B's in the area. No shortage of chain hotels and quaint spots.
We stayed at the Hyatt House downtown and it's dog friendly!
