Fabulous video ..breath taking views ..but how times have changed . I first crossed this bridge on my fathers shoulders at the age of four ! With my mother hiding behind her hands afraid to watch and being very Cross with my dad for taking me over. But I loved it and have crossed over many times since .In those days there were no nets on the sides either . One slip and we were gone ...I will never forget the view of the coastline from the island ...best place in the world for a picnic ..we felt like we were on the top of the world .
I see you were there bright and early Colin to try and beat any crowds! Super professional job Colin, easily equal to anything produced by our tourist board. The place looks a bit different from when we alighted from a bus on the top road and walked through a field of curious cows to the bridge. lol I don't remember the bridge being this stable either! When I last crossed 5 years ago some people were deliberately bouncing on it as they walked and the lady in front of me held on to a toddler and only had one hand on the rope! Some teens walked over it backwards! There was a whole line of folks allowed to cross at once too. All health and safety now. My how times have changed. I remember seeing a basking shark very clearly from the island and pointing it out to all and sundry. I always wanted to be a tour guide! lol
Tom McClean thanks very much for the high praise!!. We arrived at 9.30am on a Sunday to beat the crowds. It was a good job we did too, as when we finished the walk the fog rolled in off the sea. You can just see it covering sheep island towards the end of the video. My first trip here was the same, no path as such & the bridge was more wobbly!! Cheers Colin
Breathtaking scenery, just awesome. I’m currently planning a road trip in July. This will be the first thing in the morning, before Giants Causeway then.
If you get there early, you will miss the crowds!!. The giants causeway is well worth a visit, it’s worth trekking up the steps past the giants boot to take in the views from the top & head back to the visitor centre this way. Have a look at my video portballintrae to giants causeway for a taste of the coastline in this area. Enjoy your road trip!!
LOVELY! Thank u so much for sharing. I am going there by myself in October..so much to learn about making it the best experience! I found out in 2018 that I am half Irish..did not know that my entire life! Hoping i can find some sort of tour so i don't have to drive there!
Thanks for the kind words Karen. There are coach tours that leave from Belfast, so you should be all sorted for a wonderful trip to the causeway coast! Enjoy!!
You have a nice camera. Excellent vid. I like to go there, a two bird flight however. One bird from Houston Texas to London England and the next one from London to Dublin, plus a 3 hour ride to Ballintoy!
Im not familiar w/this area at all but have been doing family research w/possibilities in Ireland & Scotland & would love 2 go visit. Jus curious, whats that black inky stuff at base of rocks in water? Are visitors required 2 cross over? Or can u sit, picnic, & enjoy the scenery? Thx C-man Oh Heather, u brave girl, im w/ur mama,i'd be having a panic attack. Still not sure if i'd be able 2 make it over...although it is quite beautiful. I could sit on the right side all day jus looking out at God's majestic creations! ; )
The black parts at the base of the cliffs are underwater rocks and seaweed. Its free to walk to the bridge and there are spots to sit at along the way, i dont remember seeing any picnic tables (only at their refreshment shop) but you can stay as long as you like. If you want to cross the bridge, they have intorduced a timed ticketing system, which can be pre booked online. On our visit we went early to beat the crowds, and i dont think they had the timed tickets then.
@@ColinM_UA-cam hey colin, thx for ur reply...so when u say rocks do u mean pieces of the island(mountain in this case) that fell into the water or u mean the landmass/volcano of which the "island" is attached? Even if it turns out we dont have any relations, i'd still like 2 visit. Im so happy some places are still, for the most part, left as nature intended. Blessings
Awesome video! I walked across the bridge last week! It was amazing! I’m afraid of heights but it was still amazing!
Glad you had a great time!
You are very brave if afraid of heights

I think it’s just natural rockfall from the cliffs above.
@@ColinM_UA-cam gotcha,thanks for info
Would this be a good place to bring ur girlfriend?
Only you can truly answer that, as you know her best!
If she likes walks and scenery and isn’t afraid of heights then I would say go for it.
