I loved duts as a guard member because at one point in our show we couldn't see the drum major and there was a long period of silence before the push, so eventually one of the drummers just screamed his duts at the top of his lungs as our cue and it made the whole thing sound 5x better

I'll never forget last year during our transition set my friend would always go "hey luther," and I'd go "hey derek" every single time. of course the drumline gets more opportunity to do this however, since theyre using their hands rather than their mouths lmfao.

We did this all the time in our school line back in the years of the middle to late 80's. We won all competitions all the time. After 5 years of drumline I was so sick of drums I put down my snare and sticks and never picked them up again. I guess 10 hour days will take the fun out of it. I literally cant even stand a drum solo at a concert these days let alone the thought of doing drumline anymore.

I was once mocked by a reed player for asking for an inhaler [I have bad asthma that worsens the more I move] because apperently to them all I did was hit sticks on a percussion instrument while marching. Little did they know it's actually more wearing in a way :,-)
