  • During the '60s, Graves worked with Giuseppi Logan and the New York Art Quartet. He recorded on ESP in the mid-'60s with Logan, and was an original member of the Jazz Composers' Orchestra Association. Graves also played with Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba in the early '60s. His appearance in the Bill Dixon-sponsored concert series the October Revolution in Jazz helped introduce Graves to a wider audience. He did two albums of duets with pianist Don Pullen at Yale in 1966. Graves worked regularly with Albert Ayler in 1967 and 1968, performing at the 1967 Newport Festival. He also played with Hugh Glover and worked in a duo with Andrew Cyrille.

The absolute truth. We are dynamic creatures. We are not androids. Thank you for sharing this great gift.

    Dear Mr. Milford Graves,
I'm interested in jazz with an introduction to Giuseppe Logan - I was deeply moved by his nature of playing and I researched you as well...I used to think John Bonham was fantastic - you sir are on a level I've never witnessed before including the Buddy Riches and Gene Krupas. I've been a musician 40 plus years trumpet as a boy and drums are my passion now. I absolutely dig what your saying aboit the metonome - when a song is performed and the the artists are performing together it has it's own heartbeat, i think notes have a beginning, middle, and ending - it's nice to manipulate this at the appropriate time. I look forward to checking out your catalogue of work - thank you.
